I don’t remember books having such good personal lessons when I was a kid. Some of them would’ve been helpful for me to learn when I was growing up. This was such a cute story and so entertaining. I loved it and want more!

Subpar
Revisado: 03-07-25
Subpar narrating for a subpar book. I hate to be so negative about it, but there it is. It wasn’t seriously bad, but I also wouldn’t call it good by any means. I think I only finished it because it was short and I wanted to see how they’d get away.

Lies. Deceit. Betrayal. These are the weapons of the damned. For paranormal investigator Ford Atticus Ford, and his partner, Mike Long, the stakes have never been higher as they ready themselves for a supernatural war with the most powerful demonic entity they have ever encountered. This isn't just about ghosts and things that go bump in the night. This is abject fear. This is the ultimate horror. It's good versus supreme evil in a winner-take-all fight for redemption, the soul of little Chelsea Hopper, and possibly even the future of humanity itself....

Awesome and yet…
Revisado: 03-03-25
This book was lots of fun, but the cheesiness from the first book returned in abundance. Despite this, I very much enjoyed the book and was thoroughly entertained.
Now for the bigger reasons I knocked a star off. The author seemed to forget the extra characters added toward the end. The names were there, but the people were not. It was as if they had their time during their introductions and that was enough. After that, they were name drops that were constantly forgotten and glossed over, almost added as an afterthought because the author suddenly remembered they needed to be mentioned again. 2D characters that are so barely there that they’re almost invisible is a big no-no for me.
The pacing was also inconsistent and, toward the end, massively off. You’ve got the big baddie messing with Chelsea and Ford and Mike are standing outside the door for an eternity talking about what their plan is. Always talking talking talking. Stop TALKING and save her! And then Rob seriously needs to stop talking with his fists and stop punching Ford without listening to him. Ugh. I know he’s terrified for his kid, but come on!
Anyway, all of that only bugged me enough to take off one star. I still listened with rapt attention.

The demon narration!
Revisado: 02-25-25
Holy cow! When the narrator goes into the demons’ voices, the black-eyed children especially, he sounds amazing!! I had had issues with the voice he gave for Lauren because she sounded a bit too stereotypical, but then…holy cow. That was intense. Much better than the first book.

Entertaining
Revisado: 02-22-25
It was entertaining in both the horror sense and the ridiculous sense. It seemed more like a movie I’d watch - fun but over the top. The narrating was a bit slow at times but not so much that it taxed my patience.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

That was such a complicated storyline! I mean, it seemed so straightforward at first and I thought I knew exactly who the bad guy was, but then more details began emerging until it was like holy cow. Very entertaining listen.

Enjoyable but lots of plot issues and a weird ending
Revisado: 01-24-25
The narrator’s voice was so pretty! Only one problem with her performance was that the sound of her fear was inconsistent. But maybe that was because of the writing itself. There were times when there should have been tons of fear, but there was none. Like someone’s covered in blood down their front and, yeah, panic and terror ensues. Then another person says I’ll take care of it and suddenly the fear is gone and never really returns despite the character being unsure if everyone is dead. That kind of inconsistency made no sense to me.
Upon first impression, I thoroughly enjoyed the book, but I also love to think about the story after I’m done and this didn’t hold up to that kind of scrutiny. The more I thought about it, the more I found wrong with it. Fear that gets swept under the carpet so to speak too many times, the ambiguous ending, the easy final climax, the unanswered implied looks and hints etc of a certain mystery that I can’t reveal, dropped points…
The ending was a big thing for me. What the heck did it mean??
