Historia
Knapp draws on his own experience of losing both his first and second wife to cancer to provide insight into some of the unhelpful responses we often make, and presents a repertoire of ideas on how to be a genuine friend and helper to a grieving person. Various chapters in the book deal with different kinds of losses, including the trauma of losing a spouse or child, divorce, loss of pets, and other losses that we sometimes fail to recognize need to be grieved over if healing is to occur.

The Ending
Revisado: 06-16-24
I wish LKH left more time after the final kill for more closure. Closing the case and the mystery in the last 15 minutes of the book and barely even talking about Edward and Donna's wedding? It feels like it does a real disservice to all the wedding planning foreplay.

Historia
Anita has never seen Damian, her vampire servant, in such a state. The rising sun doesn't usher in the peaceful death that he desperately needs. Instead, he's being bombarded with violent nightmares and blood sweats. And now, with Damian at his most vulnerable, Anita needs him the most. The vampire who created him, who subjected him to centuries of torture, might be losing control, allowing rogue vampires to run wild and break one of their kind's few strict taboos.

Historia
In the late nineteenth century, people were obsessed by one of the last unmapped areas of the globe: The North Pole. No one knew what existed beyond the fortress of ice rimming the northern oceans. On July 8, 1879, the USS Jeannette set sail from San Francisco to cheering crowds in the grip of "Arctic Fever." The ship sailed into uncharted seas, but soon was trapped in pack ice. Two years into the harrowing voyage, the hull was breached. Amid the rush of water and the shrieks of breaking wooden boards, the crew abandoned the ship.

Amazing Book, Devastating Story
Revisado: 01-12-24
The beginning is a really slow burn, introducing the characters and settimg up the plot. But oh my gosh when you get into it, it is a white knuckled story where you are PRAYING history can rewrite itself. I had to fight the urge to look up what happened throughout the whole second half of the book and I'm glad I didn't spoil it for myself. Amazing book, devastating story.

Historia
It is the story of 11-year-old Pecola Breedlove--a black girl in an America whose love for its blond, blue-eyed children can devastate all others--who prays for her eyes to turn blue: so that she will be beautiful, so that people will look at her, so that her world will be different. This is the story of the nightmare at the heart of her yearning and the tragedy of its fulfillment.

A Stunning Poetic Tragedy
Revisado: 10-01-21
Well I'll be honest, I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I started this book but to say that it didn't move me would be a lie. The way the author narrates and describes the characters and the series of events is just completely stunning. She pulls you in, lulls you with her canter, and then rips your heart out. This book is absolutely heartbreaking and I loved it. I'm going to be thinking about Pecola for a long time. I would highly recommend this book to those that aren't faint of heart, that are searching for a book that can elicit emotion and introspection. Thank you Toni for this amazing book and it's amazingly human characters.

I had no idea what I was getting into with this but I'm so glad I stumbled upon it. The story was engaging, the characters were relatable but eccentric, and the acting/performance was just 10/10. I hope I'll be able to see this one day in a theater.

Historia
What if you’ve sworn to protect the one you were born to destroy? Tarisai has always longed for the warmth of a family. She was raised in isolation by a mysterious, often absent mother known only as the Lady. The Lady sends her to the capital of the global empire of Aritsar to compete with other children to be chosen as one of the crown prince’s Council of Eleven. If she’s picked, she’ll be joined with the other council members through the Ray, a bond deeper than blood. That closeness is irresistible to Tarisai. But the Lady has other ideas....

Historia
The Indignities of Being a Woman candidly traces the history of womanhood and investigates how much things have really changed for womankind. By carefully x-raying areas such as body image, marriage, mental illness, fashion, and politics, this audiobook examines what it was like to be a woman in the past versus what it’s like now, when women are constantly told equality between the sexes exists but reality proves otherwise.
