I like this story, however I don't know if this narrator was the right choice. I would have also preferred a male narrator to do the male POVs.

There was a lot going on in this. There was Stony’s ex and her controlling parents, Young’s regular hookup who wouldn’t get a clue, and their friends Papa and Ashlyn who have a secondary romance in this book. Papa and Ash get their own POVs and have their own personal issues. However their relationship flows much more smoothly than Young and Stony.

Stony was very annoying. She didn’t know what she wanted in life, and the only person she ever really tried to stand up to was Young, one of only two people who was really in her corner.

I feel like editing could’ve made this flow better, and I noticed typos when I switched to the ebook. For the audio, I didn’t care for the narrators. When I switched over, I saw this ebook has no chapters or table of contents, so I had to manually find my place.

I enjoy the performance of these narrators. I think their voices work well together.

Let's move on to this book. Only the first and last chapter are in present day. The rest is set in the past. These characters, except Tori, acted like children in high school instead of twenty-something seniors in college. They really stood around like cool kids in a cliché drama and made fun of Tori because she was poor. Avery, Ashton's girlfriend, went so far as to say she wanted to bully Tori so much she college. Of course she didn't use that term, but that's what it was. Ashton actually BARKED at Tori during their first few encounters. Tori did nothing to them! She was just visibly poor.

So when she finds out he's her tutor, she clearly doesn't want to go. During that first session he had the nerve to lecture her about HBCUs. That was an eye roll for me as a Black reader. He never saw the irony in that lecture and how he had been treating Tori.

He's practically forced to be nice to her when her athletic director goes to his. Then his athletic director didn't admonish Ashton for his behavior in general. Why treat someone like that? Instead he said he didn't want Tori to sue because she's a woman, or something close to that. Throughout the book, I got the feeling the author had extreme feelings about Me Too (for lack of a better term) and allowed it to show in this book. It was annoying.

By the end of the book, I wondered why Tori started feeling him. Yeah, he did some nice things for her but only in secret. I already own the audio for book 2, so I'll listen to that. Depending on that I'll move on to book 3.

I would've wanted to see more of Shirleen without the Rock Chicks. She didn't keep in contact with anyone other than them in all these years? I guess. *sigh* Also could've done without the conversation about race and dating. KA does interracial relationships so I didn't care for her having Shirleen talk about them like that. The epilogue is very attention grabbing. Maybe she'll never fully let go of the Rock Chicks. They started it all.

Nicole Small did a great job narrating. She got those accents down very well for this to be her first time voicing this series.

TW//CW: suicide, mentions of cheating (main characters don't cheat), childhoods with bad fathers

I love Kristen Ashley, but this one of those times I don't know how to respond to her books.

Cory's lie resulted in Imogen and Duncan breaking up and remaining separated until Cory's death brings them back together to carry out one of his final wishes. He's left them a box he wants them to open together. In the box, Cory left his confession that he lied to cause the breakup. They lost about 28 years together. They both married and had children, but have since divorced which left it open for them to reunite. Cory has chapters from his POV as well as his letter. I'm not sure how we're supposed to feel about him. He had a bad childhood with his father, but he turned around and was a bad father. He truly loved his friend's, but allowed his selfish wants hurt them. He never told them while he was alive, even thought he stayed friends with Imogen and kept tabs on Duncan.

Once they reunited, it was just really easy for them. Nothing bug happened. Their kids are happy for them and get along. Imogen's ex had a problem, but it didn't create a big issue. Duncan calls his ex and that's it. She's not on the page. I missed the conflict.

TW//CW: cancer (and everything that comes with that diagnosis), assault, death

Based on the last part of the blurb “one night of bad choices leads to a very big ‘oops,’” I thought this would be an enemies to lovers, pregnancy from a one night stand, and they just can’t stay apart. That’s not the case. They start dating as soon as they have sex. There is a pregnancy, but it’s towards the end. Nothing big happens, and what does happen gets resolved quickly. The end was somewhat abrupt, which has been the case for this whole series.

TW//CW: death, cancer, hospice

I hope I got all of the triggers, because this author definitely won't do them. How do I know? This book has a small rant about triggers at the beginning. This author really has a habit of inputting her personal beliefs like this into her books, even though I'm sure she thinks she doesn't do it. This book is a grief sandwich. It begins with the death of her friend, and ends with another death.

Now for the narrator. The female narrator was so robotic. I really thought I wouldn't finish. When she did the dialog, her voice was pleasant, but otherwise I didn't like it.

TW//CW: death, excessive drinking, dog attack, vehicle accident

You know, now that I put it as a potential trigger, I realize the dog stops getting mentioned. Maybe I missed something. Anyway, there was a lot of emphasis on him being her dad's friend and her being his daughter's best friend, but none of that mattered. Everyone was okay with it, which was interesting.
