Historia
In Reggie Ford's bold reassessment of the Black experience in America, he demonstrates that a new understanding of PTSD is required. PTSD, or Perseverance Through Severe Dysfunction, as Ford defines it, underlines the darkness of mental illnesses and behaviors that impact young Black men and have plagued Black Americans for generations. But his reassessment is not doom and gloom. Instead, Ford implores that we turn pain into peace. Ford uses his own traumatic experiences to inform his call to action.

A Powerful Book That Will Certainly Leave a Positive Impact
Revisado: 01-12-25
Ford details his experiences while pointing out the unique trauma most face in the black community. No book I’ve read comes close to qualitatively dissecting the causes and the actions of modern day trauma in the black culture. The reader leaves with a better understanding of the current issues facing black mental health in America.

Interesting experience but places an emphasis on race
Revisado: 01-02-25
it’s kinda subtly comes across as having a racial undertone the tone,, description, & emphasis of Negro. I wasn’t sure if there was a subtle message about race. At times the book jumps around. The program sounds interesting but the delivery is antiquated.

The voice is a hard listen
Revisado: 09-16-24
It sounds like a thesis paper & not a book for a wide audience. There's too much fluff & not enough relating the issues to daily practices & an effective plan.

The moderator focuses on his own trauma & insecurities. He’s very broken & so the recommendations he provides are not healthy ways to deal with emotional challenges. I think the moderator needs to see out healing before he has the capacity to advise someone else.

Too many tangents & the writing could better.
Revisado: 08-13-24
I shoulda like what he spends one paragraph explained could be communicated in one sentence. Its too convoluted & this is a topic that needs clear and linear because understanding this topic requires a strong foundation. There are a lot of assumptions that can't be substantiated. He needs better sources. It could have been a great book if it was objectively written.
