Historia
What if pro-slavery Democrats kept their party united and won the election of 1860? What if Jefferson Davis became President of a pro-slavery Union, while Abraham Lincoln must decide whether to fight for a new birth of freedom outside it? In this alternate history, there will be no secession of the South. But what about the anti-slavery men in the North? Will the United States, now styled “The Confederate Union,” still be their country? “Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that ...

Fun idea well executed

Loved the story. It was the right mix of real history and randomness that is the hallmark of good alt history.
The narration was painful

Historia
The 10 enlightening (and often humorous) lectures of Medieval Myths and Mysteries will show you how far from the “dark” times of legend these centuries were. Uncover the facts about the Knights Templar. Reveal the truth behind the tales of legendary creatures like the Questing Beast and the unicorn. Trace the events of the Black Death and the ways it altered the world in its wake, and much more. With Professor Armstrong, you will dig deep into the ways that later generations reshaped the narrative of the medieval years and perpetuated the myths.

Excellent in every way

This was very educational, but in a matter, which was not only easy to listen to, but very pleasant. The reader was exceptional. The topics were engaging. Recommend 100%.

Solène Marchand, the thirty-nine-year-old owner of an art gallery in Los Angeles, is reluctant to take her daughter, Isabelle, to meet her favorite boy band. What begins as a series of clandestine trysts quickly evolves into a passionate relationship.

Historia
It's 1974, and Jerry Stieglitz is a grad student in marine biology at UCLA with a side gig selling short stories to science fiction magazines, just weeks away from marrying his longtime fiancée. Then his life is upended by grim-faced men from three-letter agencies who want him to join a top-secret "Project Azorian" in the middle of the north Pacific Ocean—and they really don't take "no" for an answer. Further, they're offering enough money to solve all of his immediate problems.

Disappointed
Revisado: 01-12-23
I’ve read or listened to dozens of Harry Turtledove books. This is the first I was bored and, in the end, disappointed in. Good premise, good first half. The second half was drawn out and boring.
I hope this isn’t a sign of things to come for HT

Historia
In the 25th century, humans have conquered space. The advent of faster-than-light travel has opened up hundreds of habitable planets for colonization, and humans have exploited the virtually limitless space and resources for hundreds of years with impunity. So complacent have they become with the overabundance that armed conflict is a thing of the past, and their machines of war are obsolete and decrepit. What would happen if they were suddenly threatened by a terrifying new enemy?

This was a huge surprise. It’s awesome. As a big Sherlock Holmes fan I am very picky on any post ACD effort, but this felt like it was an original effort. The shirt story format was spot on. I wish there was more

Turtledove never disappoints
Revisado: 01-28-21
Like everything he’s written, this book is highly entertaining. The characters are fun, the story far from implausible (a problem with many alt history writers), fairly well researched. The only issue is the pace can be slow at times, but it is a very small criticism. Plus the reader was excellent
