Historia
Anthony Opoka and Florence Okori are coming of age in Uganda in the 1990s. Outstanding students, they believe in being good humans before they are kidnapped and forced into the fanatical Lord’s Resistance Army. In a legion of young recruits, no one gets closer than Anthony to powerful messianic warlord Joseph Kony and his darkest secrets. To stay sane as he spirals through chaos, Anthony clings to his childhood lessons about being a good human. Florence’s upbringing grounds her, too, helping her keep her dreams alive even as she’s pulled deeper into the insanity of Kony’s war.

Historia
It’s December 8, 1941…The day after Pearl Harbor…The Nazis have the A-bomb…We don’t. Washington D.C. and Manhattan disappear beneath nuclear mushroom clouds. Stripped of its congress, judicial and executive branches, the United States is a fractured, frantic shell of its former self; each state, a world unto its own. Germany’s threat of further attacks on major American cities like Chicago, Miami and Pittsburgh compels Secretary of Labor Frances Perkins, sole survivor of the executive branch and now president, to bend to Hitler’s demand of neutrality. Powerless and impotent, ...

I did not like the AI reading
Revisado: 05-17-24
I liked the premise of the story, however it didn’t play out to its fullest potential. That said, as a pilot, I did enjoy the time spent on aviation and specifically the Boeing 314.
As for the AI reading, when I listened to a sample, it sounded good enough to at least give it a try. While listening, I was disappointed. It’s a male voice, and when narrating a female, the voice stayed the same. For that matter, there was absolutely no variation from character to character. It was difficult to follow along during a conversation. Some words were mis pronounced. For example, a WW2 German fighter airplane is an ME 102 (pronounced em ee). The AI pronounced it “me 102”. I much prefer a human to read with emotion, dialect, and gender variations.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Just as good as “The Martian”.
Revisado: 08-15-21
This book was unpausable. I’m not very scientific, but listening to all the science was enjoyable. Audible did a great job with sound effects. You’ll know what I’m referring to when you’re listening. Just like “The Martian”, I hope this book makes it to theaters.

Historia
Pete Banning was Clanton's favorite son, a returning war hero, the patriarch of a prominent family, a farmer, a father, a neighbor, and a faithful member of the Methodist church. Then one cool October morning in 1946, he rose early, drove into town, walked into the church, and calmly shot and killed the Reverend Dexter Bell.

Another good story from Grisham. Not only a court room drama, also a World War 2 drama blended in to the book.

Historia
Thirty years ago, Wilde was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. Now an adult, he still doesn't know where he comes from, and another child has gone missing. No one seems to take Naomi Pine's disappearance seriously, not even her father - with one exception. Hester Crimstein, a television criminal attorney, knows through her grandson that Naomi was relentlessly bullied at school. Hester asks Wilde - with whom she shares a tragic connection - to use his unique skills to help find Naomi.

Could not get hooked on the story
Revisado: 04-19-20
I could not begin to care for any of the characters. On occasion I thought the story was starting to get going, then it went off on a different direction. I really wanted to like this book, but it just didn’t work for me.

Against the death penalty
Revisado: 12-07-19
I am a middle aged, conservative white man. Thanks to John Grisham, I am also strongly apposed to the death penalty. This and a couple of other books by Grisham have convinced me to feel this way.
Michael Beck makes this good story extremely easy to listen to. He is spectacular at all the southern dialects. Hands down one of my favorite readers.

Historia
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Disappointed
Revisado: 07-27-18
The first third was good, but the last two thirds was boring. I had all I could do to finish this book. I kept waiting for it to start getting good again, and for me, it flatlined after awhile.

Historia
When Ryan Campbell was six he fell in love with aeroplanes. It was a passion that was to dominate his childhood and it was no surprise when at 15 Ryan became the youngest pilot in Australia. Inspired by his father and grandfather who were also aviators, Ryan sought a challenge and, like adventurers before him, he found one that spoke to him more than the rest. He wanted to fly around the world, solo, in a single-engine aircraft.

Revisado: 02-04-15
Well written book about this young man's flight around the world. As a fellow pilot, I was very impressed with Ryan's story. He did a superb job explaining certain procedures in lemans terms, such as an ILS instrument approach. Ryan has a bright future in life.

This guy liked this book very much!
Revisado: 11-29-14
Where does The Husband's Secret rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I give this book a solid B. It's a page turner for sure.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Husband's Secret?
Some of the book is predictable, and that's OK, because some of it is not!
What does Caroline Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narrator does a great job. I usually like male narrators, and Caroline Lee did a great job.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listen while driving to and from work, and this book made my drive something to look forward to.
Any additional comments?
Many reviews call this a chick lit. Well maybe I'm in touch with my feminine side, because I liked this book very much!

Historia
In the summer of 1966, Rinker and Kernahan Buck - 2 teenaged schoolboys from New Jersey - bought a dilapidated Piper Club airplane for $300, rebuild it, and piloted it on a record-breaking flight across America - navigating all the way to California without a radio because they couldn't afford one. Their trip retraced a mythical route flown by their father, Tom Buck, a brash, colorful ex-barnstormer who had lost a leg in a tragic plane crash before his sons were born - but who so loved the adventure of flight that he taught his boys to fly before they could drive. The journey west, and the preparations for it, become a figurative and literal process of discovery as the young men battle thunderstorms and wracking turbulence, encounter Arkansas rednecks, Texas cowboys, and the languid, romantic culture of small-town cafes, cheap motels, and dusty landing strips of pre-Vietnam America. The brothers have a lot to resolve among themselves too - as Kern, the shy, meticulous, dedicated dreamer, and Rinker, the rebellious second son, must finally come to understand and depend on each other in the complex way that only brothers can. Most of all, Flight of Passages is a timeless story of fathers and sons. These 2 young men must separate from their difficult, quirky father - literally by putting a country's distance between them - but they do it on their father's terms: in an airplane. As he looks back, from the perspective of now being a father himself, Rinker Buck's tale of 2 young men in search of themselves and their country becomes a story about the eternal enigma of family - of the distance and closeness of generations, of peace lost so that understanding can be gained - and it is explored with a storytelling power that is both brave and rare.

Revisado: 07-28-06
I am a private pilot, so this was a better listen to me for that reason. However, I believe that anyone would love this story of 2 brothers on an adventure of a lifetime. The relationship with theid father is a great story also. If you're a pilot, this is a must read.
