Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Worth the hype
Revisado: 04-28-25
Really truly one of the better books I've read and it's far and away different than my normal fantasy/scifi/philosophy/doctrine books. Absolutely worth the read no-matter what you normally read/listen to. 5 star read for sure

Historia
For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

World building, unique magic, found family; this has it all
Revisado: 04-18-25
Welp I've found my new series.
I have lots of thoughts about lots of these characters. I think there were a couple of missed opportunities, but I know this book was written while Brandon was younger, so that makes sense. I am already rooting for some characters, suspicious of others, trying to figure out some of the unanswered questions, and hoping for certain endings. I'm off to read the next one. Wish me luck!

As hilarious as it is universal, each chapter presents a common parenting scenario with advice on how to get through it in the easiest and most efficient way possible. With chapters such as "How to Sleep Until 9 A.M. Every Weekend" and "When Seeing an Infant Triggers a Mental Illness That Makes You Want to Have Another Baby," as well as a Sh*tty Mom quiz, this is a must-have, laugh-out-loud funny audiobook for the sh*tty parent in all of us.

A bit funny but not worth it for me. I like the short chapters, but it feels like a book full of excuses, some of which I've used and too political, religious and careless. Eh 🤷🏽♀️

Historia
When Hugh MacLeod was a struggling young copywriter living in a YMCA, he started to doodle on the backs of business cards while sitting at a bar. Those cartoons eventually led to a popular blog - gapingvoid.com - and a reputation for pithy insight and humor, in both words and pictures. MacLeod has opinions on everything from marketing to the meaning of life, but one of his main subjects is creativity. How do new ideas emerge in a cynical, risk-averse world?

Somehow made me feel a deep connection and made me feel "heard" even though we have never met and I didn't talk at all.
Revisado: 01-06-25
This piece is spectacular.
I like how art is usually referred to as a "piece".
It's true in many ways.
The artist creates an experienceable "piece" of themselves.
And we have the audacity to critique it.
I, for one, would like to THANK you, Hugh, for spending the time on this "piece" as I know you did. I can tell there's too much of your soul in it for it to be a first draft (whether the other drafts were all written down or not).
Excellent craftsmanship, sir.
I look forward to reading more things that you write and will be finding at least one more to start very soon.
When I finish, I'll review that one too.
You'll know if I think it's as excellent as I think this is.
And if I don't... that's ok.
Not every piece of you is for everyone. This piece found the right person though and I appreciate it. This has genuinely helped me in several areas of my life.
Thank you for sharing it with us.

As Bryce, Hunt, and their friends get pulled into the rebels' plans, the choice becomes clear: stay silent while others are oppressed, or fight for what's right.

World building > story
Revisado: 12-19-24
The world building is beautiful, and the story was... pretty good, but had several aspects that seemed a bit too fantastical. Don't get me wrong; I love a good fantasy novel. I'm not speaking of the creatures or strangeness of the lure, world or peoples who exist. It's more the story like "would he really do that?" Or "oh come on that's not believable" about the extreme coincidences that make the story line less relatable and less believable. Another note is that I don't mind a little spice, but if it goes past a certain crudeness and explicitness, I take off a star just because I can't really fully enjoy it cause I'm never gonna read it again or call it a favorite because it crosses my moral boundaries. I added another star back, though for the audiobook version because of the actors performances. Still enjoyable for the most part to read, but not worth the hype to me.

Historia
The prequel to the New York Times best-selling Maze Runner series. Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the Earth, and mankind fell to disease. Mark and Trina were there when it happened, and they survived. But surviving the sun flares was easy compared to what came next. Now a disease of rage and lunacy races across the eastern United States, and there's something suspicious about its origin. Worse yet, it's mutating, and all evidence suggests that it will bring humanity to its knees.

A little immature
Revisado: 08-08-24
I love writers and stories that involve writers so I hate giving this one a lower review, but it just wasn't my thing. Negatives; there's a lot of gossiping and bad talking and caddiness and I get how that's some people's HS experience but it wasn't mine and I hate gossiping so it really kills a story for me. And the obsession with sex being this huge thing like nothing else matters is also a turn off for me. Literally ANY honest communication between anyone would have prevented all the issues. Positives; I LOVE that a main character is a writer and a reader, I love the male love interest though she didn't deserve him (seriously HAVE a conversation. Good grief), I adore how depression is dealt with and the way that her loved ones helped her while she was depressed literally made me cry and was my favorite part of the book.

Historia
We live in a culture that's all about self, becoming the best "me" I can be instead of becoming like Jesus. This me-centered message affects every area of our lives - our friendships, our marriages, even our faith - and it breaks each one in different ways. The self-focused life robs our joy, shrinks our souls, and is the reason we never quite break free of insecurity. In this book, Sharon Hodde Miller invites us into a bigger, Jesus-centered vision - one that restores our freedom and inspires us to live for more.

So honest and relatable
Revisado: 08-04-24
This book is so insightful and honest. I read it along with 4 other ladies, and none of us related to all of it, but each of us related to some of it, and, between the 5 of us, each of the main points resonated with at least 2 of us. Well written, no pulled punches and so much helpful info for practical living. I recommend

Revisado: 07-25-24
I am not only going to be telling all my parent friends to read this book, I'm also going to get the paper copy, take notes and reference often.
If you're looking for a tween/teen parenting guide, look no further! This hits so many of the most important parenting challenges and things we as millenials didn't have to deal with growing up. FANTASTIC book and I'll be re reading for many years!

All emotion - whether positive or negative - can give us a glimpse of the true nature of God. We want to control our negative emotions and dark desires. God wants us to recognize them as the cry of our soul to be made right with Him. Beginning with the Psalms, Cry of the Soul explores what Scripture says about our darker emotions and points us to ways of honoring God as we faithfully embrace the full range of our emotional life.
