painful
Revisado: 06-24-21
I have listened to a few Pam Jenoff books.I won't be wasting my time on anymore. Her books are very hard to follow and unsatisfying to listen to. After finishing, I'm always left feeling sick. No joy or happiness or any sense of closure. There is no enjoyment or satisfaction felt for the hours of my life spent listening and investing my time into. Hours I can't take back. I've finally learned my lesson and will stay away from this author's books.

Engrossing
Revisado: 06-19-21
A saga that takes you, seamlessly, between the past and present. Very hard to stop listening to. My favorite part? I was left satisfied at the end. So often, these engrossing stories leave me deflated, disillusioned or just plain sad. This one left me proud and hopeful and curious. Curious, because it opened a whole, new aspect of WWII, that I was unaware of and that I want to explore further.

A wonderful, insightful and informative story. I learned so much about a part of WWII, that I apparently knew little about. I laughed, I cried and I learned alot.

It gave me a whole new perspective on a subject that has been a passion of mine, since I was about 8 years old so for 50 years. I was surprised that listening to the last paragraph of the book, reduced me to tears. I didn't think much could do that to me anymore.

Gripping and enthralling
Revisado: 03-21-21
I absolutely loved this book. I couldn't stop listening, even to sleep. It's a long story, but unstoppable. It's based on facts and real people, which makes it even more addictive. I cried a lot and was in awe of the love, selflessness and sacrifice so many people showed in a horrific time, for the greater good. It will take a long time to get over this book.

A "new to me series to" enjoy.
Revisado: 02-14-21
While looking for a new book to listen to, I saw a book in this series as a recommendation for me. After looking at the details, I realized I had several of the books already, so I bought the newest one. I decided to listen from the first book in the series and was excited to realize I've never listened to it before. I have enjoyed it thoroughly. It's a fun book, with interesting characters and I'm having fun getting to know a new town full of people. Now I'm itching to bury myself in the 2nd book. I listen while working nightshift and it's made my night fly by. It would be great if Audible would get the entire series. The narrator was a big mistake, though. I'm now on the last book available on Audible, in this series, but the narrator's voice still startles me. I find myself having to rewind so I can catch up on what I missed, because the narrator's voice had my mind wandering.

conundrum
Revisado: 11-03-20
I found it excruciatingly painful and slow to listen to. I had read that it started out that way and got better over time, so I decided to tough it out. By the end, I was left confused by whether I was glad I'd listened to it. As I thought about it, the interview with the author started. Now I find myself looking forward to the next book in the series! And still confused on whether I even enjoyed it. Hmmmm...

Historia
On the surface, the Victorian age is one of propriety, industry, prudishness and piety. But scratch the surface and you’ll find scandal, sadism, sex, madness, malice and murder. Presented by Stephen Fry, this series delves deep into a period of time we think we know, to discover an altogether darker reality. The stories we’re told offer a different perspective on an era which underwent massive social change. As education, trade, technology and culture blossomed, why was there an undercurrent of the ‘forbidden’ festering beneath Victorian society?

Not up to the standards of the series as a whole
Revisado: 01-29-20
Way too much time was spent inside the main character's head. A huge portion of the book was spent listening to her confusion and depression, instead of things actually happening and getting clues and solving the crimes. It was very different from the earlier books and seemed quickly slapped together and her angst used as filler.

Another delicious installment in a decadantly delightful series. I will listen to this entire series over and over again. Each volume draws me in deeper and I feel so involved with the characters, that sometimes I forget they're fictitious.
