After the events at the end of last year, I’ve had some issues within my family that could have been avoided if I had read this book first, I thought I was great friends with my sister in law, turns out it was all fake. Still kinda blindsided by that, but I’m hoping that by working through these exercises that I might heal at least a little bit.

Virtual Voice narration done right

Now I’m one of those people who doesn’t particularly like virtual voice, but this one was pretty decent. My only complaint about that would be that I guess the author wrote ‘pen name’ as one word instead of two. VV had a little trouble with that. Other than that, quality short read overall.

The reason why authors should hire professional narrators

So I guess this is supposed to be a collection of letters from different authors. The thing is the way the audiobook is structured, you can’t tell what’s a letter and what’s commentary from the main author. It would have received a much better review if the author had hired a professional to read her parts. The author pauses where there isn’t meant to be a pause and it completely changes the structure of the sentence and what the sentence is saying. Like, ‘let’s eat grandma’ and ‘let’s eat, grandma.’

More interested in spreading racism than helping her audience—entrepreneurs regardless of race, gender, identity

Wanna feel bad for the color of your skin? Read this book. She definitely needs a sensitivity reader for that white crowd, and someone who can barely make ends meet, not this imaginary white cys male who has no money struggles that doesn’t exist. I see a lot of reviews defending her racism by saying white people aren’t her audience. Well surprise poor white people want to start side hustles too. Did she put for black women in the title? Didn’t think so!

Virtual voice is what causes 1 stars

Virtual voice doesn’t give you any flavor of story. There’s no tension. There’s no characters. You can’t tell who’s talking. It reads the book as written so ‘manies’ is apparently a word and 911 is read as nine to eleven supposedly because the author wrote it ‘9-11’. This is just in the first story. If you want a good review, shell out the money for a real narrator or an editor.

Multiple scenes where parents should have been charged for negligence and ended very abruptly. Only read it because I was going to watch the Netflix version but now wondering if it would be a waste of time.

Oh my God! The giggling!

If you can get past the giggling every five minutes maybe this audiobook will be of some use to you. To me, I wish I didn’t waste the credit. Then the author tries to explain plot structuring without obviously knowing what things are like somehow your character getting a cold is conflict? Then proceeds to claim to be the ‘goddess’ of erotica, but at the same time I’ve never heard of her works. Could have been an hour long audiobook with proper editing and cutting out all the giggling fits.

Might’ve convinced me to actually watch Bridgerton

At first I wasn’t sure that I was going to like this book, and I was gearing up to put it in my DNR. Then the author started getting hilarious. So I kept reading. There’s a ton of great and relatable advice. And now as a person who didn’t like Bridgerton when it came out, she might have convinced me to go watch it, not only for research but because I might actually like it.

Tech information is a bit dated

The author focuses a lot on the technology aspect and from what I can tell this was published in 2015, when Dragon Dictate was a leading program for dictation. It’s 2023 now almost 2024. Dragon has ruined their reputation and only raving fans use them now. Also most computers, cellphones, and tablets have great microphones now. I was kind of expecting a bit more about actual writing help. There’s a little bit but not much. And there are hyperlinks, which is so annoying in audiobook format.
