A mixed bag
Revisado: 03-09-23
I really enjoyed the first two books, and when starting this one appreciated Pip's mental state hadn't just miraculously rebounded after the end of the second one. Bailey Carr does a great job narrating these, for sure, and for the first half of this one I was pretty into it, though irritated at Pip because the answer to the case was VERY obvious but she was wrong af until she found out. Then the second half of the book... I like that it went a different direction, but it all seemed just so unnecessary. It also felt somewhat out of character, even if the book explains why her reaction was the way it was. I don't know, the back half of this one didn't work for me, plot-wise. BUT the writing itself in that back half was excellent. I felt incredibly tense the whole time while listening.

Excellent
Revisado: 10-04-22
I had liked the spice girls as a kid but for many years they'd kind of faded into the background for me. One day when I was waiting for my friend to get up I decided to kill some time by watching some old Spice Girls videos... and was blown away that I'd never noticed the sheer talent that Melanie C had. After that I listened through all of her solo stuff and really fell in love with her as an artist. I could tell through a lot of songs that she had a lot of important stuff to say, and I'm so glad that she's written a memoir to fill a lot of those gaps. Her story is excellent, relatable, inspiring, and cautionary. It's really worth reading, for anyone, but especially if you're already a Mel C/Spice Girls fan. And the fact that her narration is so good only makes it even better.

Veronica Mars as a Necromancer
Revisado: 10-28-20
the story is set up kind of like Veronica Mars season 1, though instead of trying to solve her best friend's murder through conventional means, she rose her from the grave. It's very good. Rebecca Soler is great as always as well, it was a pleasant surprise when I was recommended this book and saw she narrated it.

Delivers on the promise!
Revisado: 09-30-20
After the massively disappointing Peace Talks, Battle Ground really delivers and makes the 6 year wait between installments really worthwhile! I know that Jim split the two books in half since he'd written too much, but I still kind of wish they were still stuck together. But as someone who's favorite book - ever - is book 12, Changes, this really scratched that itch. In fact there's more series-altering changes in Battle Ground than there were in Changes! Very, very good.

With a new game, Mass Effect Andromeda, set for release in 2017, the launch of a new series of Mass Effect novels is timely. The new game will take the story in a dramatic new direction and is set in a new region of space, with a new and deadly enemy.

Ridiculously good
Revisado: 06-12-20
I read this book hoping to fill some of the holes the game left and alleviate my sadness we never got DLC... And while I'm glad we found out what happened with the Quarian Ark, it makes me even sadder we didn't get to see what happened next in the game. This story was really, REALLY good. I like a Batarian for the first time. I love a Mass Effect story that doesn't focus on humans, it makes such a nice worldbuilding experience. Tom Taylorson nailed it here too- he's a great Scott Ryder( And Thanos!) and I was unsurprised that his narration of this was excellent. I'm doing a let's play of Andromeda on my youtube channel and binged the Andromeda books in order to fill in as much as I can, and I do not regret it.

Good premise, disappointing execution
Revisado: 04-28-20
To be honest, I thought this book was going to go a completely different direction than it did. It set up for this really interesting plot but then we got what amounts to 1/8th of an interesting book with medical drama trying to be realistic for the rest with characters that are more or less all interchangeable, and a disappointing climax that doesn't pull the trigger on what was truly set up. I'm probably not the target audience for this book though, as apparently my grandmother loved this one and my friend does too. But although I made it all the way through, I just look at this and see a good premise and abysmal execution. Narration was alright. It did the job, but nothing standout, aside from when he was attempting to be the "sultry" female recorded voice, that was amazing.

Revisado: 03-25-20
I love this series very much, but I admit that the first three books are pretty rough around the edges. I think it's Summer Knight where both Jim and James really kick it into gear, quality-wise. Love this one.

Once the main plot got going I thought it'd be a little more standard, leading you astray etc but hot damn did this book surprise me. Well worth it

A start to glory
Revisado: 03-03-20
This isn't Butcher or Marsters's best, it's jarring to go back to the first book after listening to the rest so many times, they both improve significantly over time.
Not to say this isn't well worth listening to! It's the best book series out there. It just takes three books before it really takes off.
