simply excellent
Revisado: 04-13-25
Poignant, refective, and still relevant (sadly). The author was exceptional and the story lines unforgetable. No wonder it is a required read for high schoolers, but I honestly got much more out of it as an adult. Thank you for this experience. wonderful!

painfully beautiful
Revisado: 02-19-25
the narrators were phenomenal. the writing exquisite. the story painfully beautiful. I knew something was up with Noor too but it didn't hit me until just before it was revealed. Salhudean was strong and brave but wore his emotions on his sleeve. the story line was a story that needed to be told and heard.

"True belonging doesn't require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are." Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives - experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization.

Historia
After the killing of a prominent mob lawyer, NYPD homicide detectives Jacob Jackson and Caitlin Grimes start receive chilling, written “rules” for how to commit the perfect murder. "Rule number one for the perfect murder: Evidence is your enemy. Leave none behind." Jackson (Reid Scott) and Grimes (Cobie Smulders) race to find the killer, setting them on a collision course with the city’s crime underbelly, and a perpetrator who seems happy to toy with them. “Rule number two. No crimes of passion. The perfect murder is always business, never pleasure.”

interesting
Revisado: 12-29-24
The story line was unbelievable. It appeared little research was done in regards to the way cops do an investigation and share information. Yet unfortunately thus story could be true in regards to framing a criminal by doing the killing themselves. Overall, the acting and reading was well done, but I am not a fan of the story.

Historia
Comedy superstar Mike Myers writes from the (true patriot) heart about his 53-year relationship with his beloved Canada. Mike Myers is a world-renowned actor, director and writer and the man behind some of the most memorable comic characters of our time. But, as he says, "No description of me is truly complete without saying I'm a Canadian". He has often winked and nodded to Canada in his outrageously accomplished body of work, but now he turns the spotlight full-beam on his homeland.

We found this book while on vacation in Canada. it was informative, funny, and enjoyable. We gained a much deeper respect for Canada and the players who have made it what it was over the years. I would love to see another one from Mike Meyers on the Indian tragedy and Beaver wars.

Historia
The Autobiographical Story of the Opening of the Far North There was a time not so very long ago when the Hudson’s Bay Company ruled the north. A time of silky furs, Indian skirmishes, canoes, “jawbone”, dog sleds, traps, and sourdoughs. Adventure came easy in this silent land of the far north. Henry John Moberly surely had plenty of it. Nearly 50 years he spent among the native and white trappers as a fur trader, trapper, hunter, and explorer. Moberly opened many of HBC’s most remote Trading Posts. The struggles of the north, the unbearable cold, the humor of the frontiersmen, the ...

Glorified Bullshit
Revisado: 10-14-24
I found this book while traveling in Canada. I was hoping to learn more about the Beaver wars. The reader did a fine job, but this book was a fantasy of a white man. The number of kills and physical effort described was not possible by any human and it described a clear lack of compassion, empathy, and care for creation and humanity. I ended up listening to the whole thing, even though my husband did not want to, because I wanted to see how brave in sensationalizing this tale the author would be. Glorified bullshit!

How the Bible Actually Works makes clear that there is no one right way to read or listen to the Bible. Moving us beyond the damaging idea that “being right” is the most important measure of faith, Enns’ freeing approach to Bible study helps us to instead focus on pursuing enlightenment and building our relationship with God - which is exactly what the Bible was designed to do.

This is a great book to help challenge the idea that the bible is literal and an instruction book that can be read in a vacuum and it will tell you exactly how you are to act and what you are to believe.

Revisado: 08-05-24
Excellent reading of a detailed run down of destruction and human behavior. I appreciates the details and real stories from those on the ground and in the air. Having gone into BWCAW and frequented the Gunflint trail made the story alive and makes me much more concerned with fire and forest management.
Our next BWCA trip with include Ham Lake to see regrowth and fire starting point. Thank you.

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

I didn't know this is what happened to people who were not even Jews, it makes what must have happened to them so much worse. I couldn't believe the order and regulations with all the chaos in care and disregard to life, but value in things. God's love sustained them and taught them how to help one another in the worst of it.
