Code of honor to the extreme
Revisado: 09-22-24
I have binged on Longmire stories, and am still not tired of them. Walt has more lives than a cat surviving beyond all expectations. His personable code of honor doesn’t let him kill except to survive or save someone else. In this book, it might be fatal.

Old Fashioned Western Honor
Revisado: 09-18-24
Walt Longmire embodies old style sense of honor and courage. He and Henry stand up for the downtrodden even at the risk of their lives. I loved hearing about their early experiences.

Historia
In the early 1800s, Nicholas, Jessica, and Jon Santa attempt the first human trek to the North Pole and stumble upon an ancient race of people left over from the Ice Age. They are short, fat, and hairy. They slide across the ice on scaly soles and carve their homes in the ice that floats on the Arctic Ocean. The elven are adapted to life in the extreme cold. They are as wise as they are ancient. Their scientific advancements have yielded great inventions - time-stopping devices and gravitational spheres that build living snowmen and genetically-modified reindeer that leap great distances.

Imaginative story of the beginning of Santa Clause
Revisado: 07-01-24
Intriguing story about how a human family stumbled on a community of elves at the North Pole. It is a prequel to other legends of Santa Clause. It pits a colony of good elves against an evil ruler of other elves. This is a great story for young people who still believe in Santa Clause.

On the surface, Emily is a perfectly lovely, good-natured puzzle-solver and mystery lover. But she is hiding a secret past from everyone in town. And when Emily begins her personal investigations, Detective-Constable Sam Wilner, a smart and attractive cop—with a crush on Emily that is not completely unrequited—begins to wonder if there’s more to Emily than meets the eye.

I enjoyed these short mystery stories that remind me of old radio and Hallmark mysteries. The narration was great. Emily solved each mystery. Not my favorite ending.

Exciting end to series
Revisado: 06-16-24
In this series I enjoyed learning about the pasts of Royce and Hadrian. We learn the most interesting element of Royce’s past at the end of this book. As all of the Riyria stories, this book puts the main characters through tough and dangerous challenges. Some important characters die.
Tim Reynolds does a very good job reading the story.

Loved the graphic novel approach
Revisado: 06-15-24
I have enjoyed all of the Riyria stories that I have heard. The conscienceless Royce and honorable Hadrian are perfect opposites and complements. In this story, Hadrian accepts a commission to steal a sword leading the pair into a trap. The death of the king they are supposed to have killed sets in motion events that will affect the human world before this series ends. Riyria will battle all kinds of threats in these stories including magical creatures, demons, magicians and elves.

Revisado: 06-01-24
A imaginative story of survival of the last man and woman on earth. Both contemplate suicide, but decide to live. Vaughn’s decision to live also impels him to change his attitude toward life and lifestyle.
Angela is stranded on the international space station and running low on everything needed to survive. Vaughn’s mission is to rescue Angela from space. At times, everything goes wrong for the two of them. There are miraculous survival instances.
The final rescue scheme is quite hokey.

Excellent outline of the Civil War environment and execution
Revisado: 05-15-24
This book provides an excellent overview of the conditions before and during the war. Descriptions of the battles are somewhat limited, but sufficient to provide the listener an understanding of the strategies involved. It does a very good job of highlighting the fact that wars cannot be conducted isolated from the political environment. The final chapter dispels the myth of the South’s lost cause and the argument that the war wasn’t about slavery. Although it might be true most southerners fought for their states, they were drawn into the war by the state’s wealthy slave owners who wanted to keep the feudal system in place.
