good but with caveats
Revisado: 09-13-24
i love the detail and time put into this podcast,it is a good listen, however with yhe quality of the show i must admit im a little fed up with this production. i feel like they shamlessly plug anyone in this seires, often inturupting the climax of there own seasons to give you a episode or peices of an episode of something off topic. im unsire why a 6 part series need to feature 3 different podcasts ( meaning 6 episodes punctuated by 2 features) but its the biggest issue i t ake with this podcast

first the second you leave your house your chances of a "medical emergancy" spike through the roof and when you hit a trail it jumps again. second if there preditors in the woods you have to prove they didnt kill someone, not that they did. third, if a woman makes several calls saying shes been drugged agenst her will and needs help it was probably a mountain lion. and finally the amount of time this autor mention abductions, really. someone ran into the back country in a snow storm and waylayed some poor hikers, not to mention all the times he described it just to mention theres no implications or evidence. id recomend any other book. just run

the material is not well suited for the narrator, makes it slow and halted. I've heard other people read Muir and the trick seem passion this man lacked vocally. he however did manage to get through all the material in a clear manner which I don't know I ever could. make sure to check the sample and make sure your ready

Historia
In Journeys North, legendary trail angel, thru hiker, and former PCTA board member Barney Scout Mann spins a compelling tale of six hikers on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2007 as they walk from Mexico to Canada. This ensemble story unfolds as these half-dozen hikers - including Barney and his wife, Sandy - trod north, slowly forming relationships and revealing their deepest secrets and aspirations. They face a once-in-a-generation drought and early severe winter storms that test their will in this bare-knuckled adventure.

off topic, I think?
Revisado: 11-23-21
I'm going to ignore the false implication modern humans are a direct evolution from Neanderthals, just to keep this short. but the author went into great detail about how Australia had no wolves but still described the entire history of man on Australia. can we agree that Australia didn't have a place in the domestication because lack of wolves means they brought there dogs with them? maybe I got confused as the author tried to explain unessicary scientific facts and timeliness? I feel like this was supposed to be a books about man and dog. man left his dog home this day and this book is about man, from the authors interpretation

Get up close and personal with an amazing creature that has invaded our lexicon as well as our restaurants. It breathes with tubes, it has no head or brain, it feeds through a filter, and it is the source of dozens of familiar proverbs ("happy as a clam!"). Clams, it turns out, have been worshipped (by the Moche people of ancient Peru), used as money (by the Algonquin Indians), and consumed by people for thousands of years.

What are you guys thinking.
Revisado: 09-06-20
This book shouldn't exist! It's semi well written and kinda of interesting but like a 5th grade essay he losses his point so entirely that by the time he wanders back you forgot what the story is supposed to be about. There's a whole section on mountain climbing ( which has no relivence to this story or it's persons. There is also this forbidding unmentioned FEAR of storms that I feel he really got heavy handed with. The author really feels like humans should be inside from a half hour before a storm to a half hour after it..... Who has time for that in life? This book could have been half it's length with 2x the excitement if he had left his fluff out of this book.
