Enjoyable!

Great performance by the narrator, and a good story by Mark Twain. Not as memorable as Huck Finn or Tom Sawyer, but fun to listen to; the narrator really brought out each voice!

Outstanding reading of a well written novel

Well beyond expectations in all regards. Excellent character development if perhaps a bit stereotypical on occasion.

Historia
Dorothea Brooke is an ardent idealist who represses her vivacity and intelligence for the cold, theological pedant Casaubon. One man understands her true nature: the artist Will Ladislaw. But how can love triumph against her sense of duty and Casaubon’s mean spirit? Meanwhile, in the little world of Middlemarch, the broader world is mirrored: the world of politics, social change, and reforms, as well as betrayal, greed, blackmail, ambition, and disappointment.

Very good book with utterly fantastic narration
Revisado: 10-04-23
Juliet Stevenson made George Eliot's book come alive! Her interpretation of the myriad of voices was nothing short of genius. Blend that with the mature insight that Eliot provided to the dialogue of 19th century England characters and you have a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Even after 35 hours of listening, I am disappointed it is over!

Historia
Written before she began her experiments in the writing of fiction, Virginia Woolf's second novel, Night and Day, is a story about a group of young people trying to discover what it means to fall in love. It asks all the big questions: What does it mean to fall in love? Does marriage grant happiness? What is happiness? Night and Day is a conventional novel; however, it maps out for us the world of Virginia Woolf in its wondrous prose: For her it was the beginning, leading on to a prolonged engagement with her search for the means to express the "inner life".

Excellent narration, beautiful writing
Revisado: 04-29-23
Ms. Juliet Stevenson is amazing in her narration, on par with her other readings. Virginia Woolf's 2nd book is a work of art in her prose - beautiful sentence structure and wonderfully descriptive word choices which flow smoothly off the veteran reader's tongue. The story line however is strained with repetitive passages of the characters' "decisions" and unrealistic class depictions.

Thought profoking reflections of common life
Revisado: 11-20-21
Juliet Stevenson does a fantastic job of narration of Virginia Woolf's work. The story at times has the most vivid, delicate description of thought from the characters, which is so beautifully, and originally described that it brings a smile or laugh to one listening.

Franz Kafka's 1915 novella of unexplained horror and nightmarish transformation became a worldwide classic and remains a century later one of the most widely read works of fiction in the world. It is the story of traveling salesman Gregor Samsa, who wakes one morning to find himself transformed into a monstrous insect. This hugely influential work inspired George Orwell, Albert Camus, Jorge Louis Borges, and Ray Bradbury, while continuing to unsettle millions of readers.

An anti-climatic story upon first reflection. Maybe the symbolism will grow on me in time. The narrator did a very good job and was easy to follow.

Historia
In Madame Bovary, one of the great novels of 19th-century France, Flaubert draws a deeply felt and sympathetic portrait of a woman who, having married a country doctor and found herself unhappy with a rural, genteel existence, longs for love and excitement. However, her aspirations and her desires to escape only bring her further disappointment and eventually lead to unexpected, painful consequences. Flaubert’s critical portrait of bourgeois provincial life remains as powerful as ever

Great narration, great writer, awful character!
Revisado: 02-26-21
Ms. Stevenson did a fantastic job of narration, with consistent voice changes for the characters, and absolutely believable inflections for Mdm. Bovary. Regarding the content, my interest became loathing of the main character, to the point I pushed myself to finish just for the satisfaction of hearing/reading of her demise. I understand now why Flaubert wrote to friends of his hate for the topic and of Mdm. Bovary herself.

Excellent narration!
Revisado: 11-06-20
I appreciated the narrator even more after starting to read the book myself; audiobook in the mornings to work, and paper copy in the evenings. The separations of characters aren't always easy to distinguish in the written copy, nor especially the temperance, but the narrator brings it to life!
The content itself is very amusing in general, albeit with the occasional side story somewhat hard to understand at times. That of course meant with the full understanding that the 'side stories' are the charm of the book.
