Yet another example of why the author should not read, let a professional do it! Pauses, or the lack there of, were horrible. His voice inflections were even worse. Its too bad, because this was a great story, and should be heard. I will not buy another book by this author if he is reading it.

Redemption?
Revisado: 10-14-22
No.
I like dark gritty stories, where the protagonist is conflicted and flawed. But this was difficult book to get through. I kept waiting for the “good guy” to show up. Didn’t happen. I figured out about 3/4 of the way into the book that I wasn’t even rooting for any of the characters. I wasn’t happy or sad at the end, just disappointed.
Writing is decent and the narration is good.

Solid book in the series, but not much more
Revisado: 01-11-22
I feel in love with the Solar Clipper books back when you could get them for free on podcast. This book feels a little flat to me. The characters feel like they are trying to reinvent themselves, while trying to figure out the mystery of the hidden space station. I love Nathan Lowells dialogue as usual. Hope the next book moves the story and characters along.

Does not belong in the "horror" section
Revisado: 01-01-22
While I was, at first, intrigued by the story and the characters, the book lost me about half way through. I did manage to finish the book, but was frustrated by the lack of common sense and backbone displayed by the small town people. Not believable. Not to mention that there are hardly any sences in the book that could actually be labeled as horror. disappointing

Stop me when this sounds familiar....
Revisado: 08-13-18
A young princess who is brash, constantly in trouble, and trying to help save her family/country.
A "lost" religion that on one understands, with secret powers that no one can control.
A prince who is noble and trying to protect EVERYONE.
A nobility that is more concerned with wealth and power than protecting their people.
An author who is afraid to kill off any of the main characters.
I enjoyed the Stormlight books a lot, and I might have enjoyed this book if I had read them first. But I really felt like it was all the same characters and plot lines again, just a lot shorter. That being said I did enjoy the book overall.
The narration was good, not great, but each character was distinctive, even if the performance as a whole was a little flat.

Historia
The dream chooses the dreamer, not the other way around - and Lazlo Strange, war orphan and junior librarian, has always feared that his dream chose poorly. Since he was five years old, he's been obsessed with the mythic lost city of Weep, but it would take someone bolder than he to cross half the world in search of it. Then a stunning opportunity presents itself in the person of a hero called the Godslayer and a band of legendary warriors, and he has to seize his chance or lose his dream forever.

Be aware, this is the start of a series!
Revisado: 08-01-18
Like others I thought the beginning was a bit slow, but it did pick up speed and I found myself looking forward to my next opportunity to listen. The love story did get pretty "flowery" and too much for my taste.
However, my biggest disappoint came at the end. I didn't realize this was the start of a series! If I had know I would not have bought it, I thought it was a stand alone book. I didn't want to start a new series, I have many others that I am more interested in.
I do agree that the narration was excellent!

Reading performance bad
Revisado: 07-15-18
Not sure if I would have liked this anyway, but the performance of the narrator just made it impossible to get into the book. Don't know if I will ever try a Koontz book again. I found most of the characters oddly "unbelievable". Especially the inner dialogue of the 11 year old. Just not a good book in my opinion.

Interesting concept, mostly done well.
Revisado: 11-11-17
Like others have said, the sound effects can get annoying, even if they just toned them down some it would be better. The story and concept are interesting and new. This alone made the book worth listening to for me. I almost gave on it somewhere in the middle, but buy the end I was thinking about getting the next one in the series. Plenty of unanswered questions.

Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

Revisado: 11-11-17
Rarely does a book this praised meet expectations, but IT does! IT blows the doors off. I am relatively new to the Stephen King fan club, but this guy is genius! The story fantastic and the characters complex without wearing on you. I will definitely be returning to this book.
Steven Weber is also amazing. The depth of his voice range is impressive, yet not over the top. Just simply great!

Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him - something so awful Todd is forced to flee with only his dog, whose simple, loyal voice he hears too. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, the two stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl. Who is she?

The whining of never letting go
Revisado: 10-17-17
If you feel like listening to the inner-dialogue a 12 year old for almost 12 hours, then this is the book for you! Personally I am sending it back, I have already survived 3 teenagers with 3 more to go, so I have had heard quite enough whining. I don't know if this would really appeal to "youth readers", but I certainly think there are better choices out there for them.
I did listen to the whole book, I really wanted to give it a chance. But the main character is so incredibly dense, that is is painful, to the brain and the ear alike. I can't imagine enduring 2 more books like this. The ending was indeed the most interesting part, and for a split second I thought about continuing the series to see where it would go. But I am going to save my money and move on.
The talking dog is really the best character, even though it feels like a cheap version of a Billy-Bumbler.
I realized that I am not a big fan of Nick Podehl either, I listened to the "KingKiller Chronicles" and there is a "whining" quality to some of the characters in that series as well. So I am left to wonder if it doesn't have something to do with the narrator?
