A stunning awakening
Revisado: 06-29-20
As a 55 year old raised in the Pacific Northwest I was stunned at the systematic governmental conspiracy to denigrate and "reslave" black Americans in the south after the Civil War. While Jim Crow was mentioned in school, nothing of the true magnitude, abuse or impact was even hinted at.
This book was a true revalation.

Historia
With an executive order from President Franklin Roosevelt in 1941, the United States Marine Corps - the last all-white branch of the U.S. military - was forced to begin recruiting and enlisting African Americans. The first black recruits received basic training at the segregated Camp Montford Point, adjacent to Camp Lejeune, near Jacksonville, North Carolina.

Incredible stories from amazing people
Revisado: 07-11-19
A great book where I learned a lot of the history of the integration of the Marine Corp. But most importantly I had the opportunity to listen to many courageous brave men tell their stories of personal sacrifice and service to a nation that, for the most part, treated them horribly.

Historia
The transatlantic slave trade was founded by the Portuguese in the 15th century for the specific purpose of supplying the New World colonies with African slave labor. It was soon joined by all the major trading powers of Europe, and it reached its peak in the 18th century with the founding and development of plantation economies that ran from the South American mainland through the Caribbean and into the southern states of the United States. The East African Slave Trade, on the other hand, was more complex, far older, and significantly more widespread.

Certainly more than I ever knew on the topic but only a very scant review of the subject. Not worth a credit.

Not worth a credit
Revisado: 01-12-19
I listened to this book only because I bought this and "The Girl in the Spider's Web" at the same time. What a mistake that was!
By far the worst book in the series. Lagercrantz cannot compare to Larssen and struggles to even keep a consistent storyline. He even forgot Salander has a photographic memory! The anti-male theme of the series continues with a strong misogynistic tone resulting in all antagonists calling females "whores." This was so pervasive and irritatingly unnecessary it made the book difficult to listen to.
I am sorry I purchased this and "The Girl in the Spider's Web" and will not purchase any more books in this series or books authored by Lagercrantz.

Completely disappointed
Revisado: 01-08-19
Although I liked the first three books of this series by the time I was done with "The girl who kicked the Hornet's nest" I was so tired of the Larsson depicting most males as woman-hating chauvinistic pigs that it seemed it was more important for Larsson to deliver this message than focus on the plot. Whenever introducing any disparaging character it was only a few paragraphs before the author has the character call some woman a "whore."
Lagercrantz did minimize this a bit but then failed in so many other ways. Lisbeth Salander has gone back in time and is again dark, pierced, tattooed and angry. And seems to have forgotten that she has a photographic memory. It is almost like someone told Lagercrants the story about the three previous books and he then continued the series without any research. Unfortunately, I did not do my research prior to buying this and the following book and woefully regret it.

Sixteenth-century Spanish gentleman Don Quixote, fed by his own delusional fantasies, takes to the road in search of chivalrous adventures. But his quest leads to more trouble than triumph. At once humorous, romantic, and sad, Don Quixote is a literary landmark. This fresh edition, by award-winning translator Edith Grossman, brings the tale to life as never before.

Colonel Joe Bishop made a promise and he's going to keep it; taking the captured alien starship Flying Dutchman back out. He doesn't agree when the UN decides to send almost 70 elite Special Operations troops, hotshot pilots, and scientists with him; the mission is a fool's errand he doesn't expect to ever return from. At least, this time, the Earth is safe, right? Not so much.

Too much Bromance!
Revisado: 12-16-17
The budding bromance between Joe and Skippy is way overboard in this book. That and the repetitive crisis that stumps Skippy but Joe is able, with his monkey brain, come up with an technically ingenious solution - every time. It was a good formula in Book 1 but there is no need to beat readers over the head with it. This book is like a modern action movie; there is no fear of impending doom concerning the good guys, they easily defeat the super villains every time.
