Historia
An orphan leaves Dark Ages London, taking a dangerous journey and posing as a Jew to study medicine in Persia, in "an adventurous and inspiring tale" (Library Journal). A child holds the hand of his dying mother and is terrified, aware something is taking her. Orphaned and given to an itinerant barber-surgeon, Rob Cole becomes a fast-talking swindler, peddling a worthless medicine. But as he matures, his strange gift - an acute sensitivity to impending death - never leaves him, and he yearns to become a healer.

Zero Historical Authenticity
Revisado: 02-15-25
Narrator does the best he could with a god awful book. Barely a paragraph went by without me cringing at the blatant inaccuracies. They are entirely too many to list but range from clothes from the Renaissance, Bible quotes in English from the King James 18th century, peasant women being literate and names being modern.

Boston, 1662. Mary Deerfield is 24 years old. Her skin is porcelain, her eyes delft blue, and in England she might have had many suitors. But here in the New World, amid this community of saints, Mary is the second wife of Thomas Deerfield, a man as cruel as he is powerful. When Thomas, prone to drunken rage, drives a three-tined fork into the back of Mary's hand, she resolves that she must divorce him to save her life.

The Crucible Was Better
Revisado: 09-02-23
For such a "smart and well educated' MC she sure does do A Lot of remarkably stupid things where other people can see her.
I thought this was going to be suspenseful, thrilling and supernatural. It was none of them. I made it as far as the last trial scene hoping against hope that Black Phillip would appear in a puff of sulfur and gore the crowd or.... something..... anything that wasn't completely predictable from the second chapter. I no longer care who done it or why as I don't believe the last 45 minutes will reveal anything except that the MC is still painfully stupid.

Trigger Warning
Revisado: 08-14-23
If you're triggered by sexual assault of minors and adults, by domestic violence, financial abuse and spousal neglect you probably won't enjoy this book. It's very well written and a great presentation but I spent more than half of it disassociating.

Informative
Revisado: 07-06-23
Very interesting but I think it could do with better layout; 3/4 of the way through it began to feel like I was listening to my 8 year old nephew as he info dumps everything he knows about trains, great facts delivered with plenty of enthusiasm but no clear outline or goal beyond "I learned something awesome so I'm going to tell everyone".
I was never bored but if asked to outline it for a friend I would be stumped.

Better than No. 3
Revisado: 05-16-23
While not as fun or innovative as the first 2 books it is MUCH better than Dead Moon. As a cancer surviver I can say that radiation treatment is more fun than Dead Moon. I found Alex to be an interesting addition to the mythos.

Historia
In the year 2243, the Moon belongs to the dead. The largest graveyard in the solar system, it was the perfect solution to the overcrowding and environmental problems that had plagued mankind for centuries. And the perfect place for Cali Washington to run away from her past. But when a mysterious meteor crashes into one of the Moon’s cemeteries, Cali and her fellow Caretakers find themselves surrounded by a terrifying enemy force that outnumbers them more than a thousand to one. An enemy not hindered by the lack of air or warmth or sustenance. An enemy that is already dead.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

AMAZING
Revisado: 09-24-22
The BEST Stephen King novel ever! Parallels the Dark Tower and Talisman but blows them out of the water. I would consider this a dark fantasy instead of horror and a masterwork of the hero's journey.

Historia
A United Nations relief team in a small village in the Congo makes an alarming discovery. An unknown force is leveling the evolutionary playing field. Men, women, and children have been reduced to a dull, catatonic state. The environment surrounding them—plants and animals—has grown more cunning and predatory, evolving at an exponential pace. The insidious phenomenon is spreading from a cursed site in the jungle — known to locals as the Kingdom of Bones —and sweeping across Africa, threatening the rest of the world.
