Disappointing
Revisado: 01-15-24
The the story plots and character development were passably good. The AI narration ruined them for me : Cold, unemotional delivery in a fake British accent makes for an unpleasant "read". The AI isn't working, Audible!

One of her best!
Revisado: 01-04-23
This book is one of her best. It so sensitively and comprehensively covers both sides of this hot issue, that in the wake of the SCOTUS reversal of Roe v Wade, that I had to pace myself in listening to it to control my emotions. She exposes most of the intimately personal impacts of legal abortion and the highly restrictive and medically ignorant laws governing legal abortion were bad enough on the lives and psyche of women in this situation. But now thanks to SCOTUS, conservative and mysogynous state legislators have placed so many more legal restrictions on the doctors who offer GYN services that women are effectually denied a real choice. Some women have already died while GYNs argued with lawyers as to whether a patient meets legal requirements to terminate ectopic and other life threatening pregnancies. Since I was a pregnant mom in one of these categories in the early years after Roe v Wade my doctor could make medical decisions for which he was trained and worked quickly to save my life. I will be forever grateful for living to raise my daughter who was 5 at the time. For God sake, if states insist on controlling women's bodily autonomy, at least bring in doctors to help you write your laws so you don't continue to embarrass yourselves with medically ignorant language you write into your laws and limit restrictions on the blatent lies propagated by the pro birth mobs that infest our country. Perhaps, we need the author to write a sequel to expose the dire straits women and medical providers are now facing now that Roe v Wade has been overturned.

Only buy if you like a comic book.
Revisado: 01-20-18
Disappointing to waste a credit on a book that is really only a very long action comic book. Then to be insulted by a production that includes cheesy effect like annoying music and use of echo chamber sound effects because the reader must be incapable of making listeners aware that the words they are hearing is a character’s thoughts is really just too much.

Historia
Since his wife died, Ralph Roberts has been having trouble sleeping. Each night he wakes up a bit earlier until he's barely sleeping at all. During his late-night walks, he observes some strange things going on in Derry, Maine. He sees colored ribbons streaming from people's heads, two strange little men wandering around town after dark, and more. He begins to suspect that these visions are something more than hallucinations brought on by lack of sleep.

Do yourself a favor and read this one.
Revisado: 08-30-17
This is one of Kings best Derry tales. It weaves themes and characters from the Dark Tower into a combined love story and horror yarn all its own. But the audio production does not do it justice. He reader's speaking voice is reminiscent of that of the narrator in Disney's Winnie the Pooh cartoon. For a horror story. Seriously? Then there is the annoying hissing sound behind the reader's voice during the first few hours. Bad sound engineering or failed dramatic effect? Unacceptable. The blaring discordant "music" throughout was unnecessary and a discredit to the book. Audible.com should mark such productions with an asterisk so that listeners who want the simplicity of a good story and a professional reader will not waste money on bad attempts at radio theater. Buy the paperback. Buy the ebook. Just do not buy this unless you need these theatrical props.
