Historia
After their mother passes, three estranged siblings reunite to sort out her estate. Beth, the oldest, never left home. She stayed with her mom, caring for her until the very end. Nicole, the middle child, has been kept at arm’s length due to her ongoing battle with a serious drug addiction. Michael, the youngest, lives out of state and hasn’t been back to their small Wisconsin town since their father ran out on them seven years before.

Corny and poorly written (Adverbs!)
Revisado: 03-11-25
Writing was poor. I've been trying to read fiction more but I always seem to hit a dud. As soon as I read something to the effect of, "She slammed her drink on the table angrily," I was done. We get it, stop at explaining everything. If I read one more overused adverb to describe things, I would scream. The metaphors were corny and obvious. Could not finish. Performances didn't help the weak story.

Too Repetitive

Was expecting more from this author. Felt as though it could have been 50% shorter and still been a thoughtful book. The narrator did a great job with what she had to work with.

Historia
The authors of the acclaimed and best-selling The Civil War, Jazz, and The War turn to another uniquely American phenomenon: baseball. Geoffrey C. Ward's and Ken Burns’s moving and fascinating history of the game goes beyond stolen bases, double plays, and home runs to demonstrate how baseball has been influenced by, and has in turn influenced, American life.

Lucy has been writing her dissertation on Sappho for nine years when she and her boyfriend break up in a dramatic flameout. After she bottoms out in Phoenix, her sister in Los Angeles insists Lucy dog-sit for the summer. Annika's home is a gorgeous glass cube on Venice Beach, but Lucy can find little relief from her anxiety - not in the Greek chorus of women in her love addiction therapy group, not in her frequent Tinder excursions, not even in Dominic the foxhound's easy affection.

Difficult when you hate the main character
Revisado: 03-16-23
OMG, I know this is fantasy but don't insult our intelligence. The sea creature knows about literature and history but doesn't know what a desert is? How did he learn all this in mermaid school? If I heard kissing of eyelids one more time...and the word Sappho, ugh! Pulling a large man creature in an antique wagon through the sand on Venice Beach at dawn without anyone around? Absolutely hated the main character. Some of the feelings were well written and insightful but then the author can't stop using crude language right next to it. I knew I hated this book especially when sperm started talking. Yes really. If you love animals don't read/hear this book. You'll hate her even more. Not one redeeming quality. Not one.

Enjoyed, but narrator's voice trailed off too much
Revisado: 05-25-18
I enjoyed listening to this book; however, Kenda's voice would trail off at times where I'd have to replay to understand him.
Bathroom speakers or headphones in a noisy area made it difficult to hear since his voice gets low in tone and volume sometimes trails off. He's sarcastic so you better that like that kind of humor (which I do).

Historia
Fine, fine. Sharing an apartment with my buddy's smoking-hot and incredibly amazing little sister seems like a recipe for disaster. But I desperately need a place close to work, and I swear I’ll behave. How hard can it be to share 500 square feet with the brilliant, beautiful total firecracker who’s my good friend too? Please. It’s sooo easy to hang out with Josie every night, to test out her new brownie recipes after work, to shop for towels and banana hangers on weekends. Until one night when she asks if she can join me under the covers. Platonically, of course.

Predictable and Dragged Out - Screenplay Writing?
Revisado: 01-08-18
Really felt as if the author wrote this with a TV/movie screenplay in mind. Big Little Lies was such a good HBO series--could it be the author had this on her mind with this one too? Sure seemed liked it. Felt as if author read some pop psychology prior to developing the characters. They all fit into a nice 'behavior' box with a predictable label. Didn't feel any depth. It was predictable in its impracticable storytelling. I was too aware of the author while I was hearing it. Always aware that she was trying to keep you off track. This book seemed more like a Lifetime movie or Afternoon Special screenplay. Performance was good although sometimes I couldn't figure out who was who. If I heard "Day of the Barbecue" one more time! Never felt like it was getting to the point of the story. Was there a point? It definitely wasn't a whodunnit.
Quite honestly, I sped up the speed just to get it over with.
