When your "sister" has been kidnapped, being tortured, your friends and so called family have been killed and the world is coming to an end, what do you do? Apparently, you have sex with 4 men, think about having sex with a 5th and barely even think about all the rest for several anand ilI mean several chapters in a row.
Pick your timing with more wisdom in the future. I was totally frustrated and not in a good way that in the middle of a crisis I had to deal with the author's first thought was "Oh, everyone just was murdered? Now is the perfect time for several unending sex scenes."
It was not. Maybe BEFORE EVERYONE WAS DEAD OR BEING TORTURED?

I wasn't sure if I would like this series but it surprised me. I was staying up listening. I lay in bed listening, bookmarking and listening. I would doze off and wake up to go back to the last bookmark.
Petra is a little bit of an idiot but she gets the job done. I couldn't stop listening.
This series is a little darker than the Hollows. If the next book is as good as this then Kim will need to stop eating and sleeping to keep up with the demands for more.
Marguerite Gavin is a superstar as usual. IYKYK.

The story was choppy

The Narration was absolutely horrible. The AI mispronounced and added weird halts and starts. It would throw off the story so bad I almost stopped listening several times.
The story would stop where it seemed there should have been more. Like they would be talking and suddenly she would be waking up the next morning. The weird spacing of sentences was off-putting like "Shut. the. fence." "Shut. the. door." "I. woke. up."

I can't stand having to wait.

This dang book was so hard to put down. For hours I was trapped in Crescent City 🌙 days even. It's just not right that it ended. Now I take off my headset and look around at this drab, uneventful world and gasp for breath as I realize this is earth I was transported to.
So much happened, so much to get resolved. I don't know if even belong here anymore.
This second book did not let me down.

Excellent story. Subpar narrative.

The story is great. The narrator us almost a detriment to the tale though. She reads like she's on half speed. She swallows constantly and it sounds like the mic is against her throat. It's so distracting.
The places she pauses makes some parts confusing. It's like another chapter started then you realize it's the same chapter. I had to rewind several times to get a coherent story.
The story is engaging and active enough to keep you listening though. There are some parts that seem to simplified and it throws you off for a moment like "is that it? Shouldn't there be more? What happened here?"
Honestly, Sky comes off as a selfish simpleton quite a bit. She quickly becomes that person that does stuff only because people told her not to. Don't feed the vampire? Imma rip oit my throat for one. Don't go out alone? I'm going to run away from a secure fortress while the homicidal maniacs cheer me on.
She constantly does things that any person with basic common sense wouldn't ever do.
I mean if fire burned you then why do you keep shoving your hand back in? I really do like the story no matter how irritated I am at the Narrator and main character. It feels like there was so much more potential in the story than was given. I will give it 4 stars anyway.

This has to be my favorite of the series. Nell is growing and becoming. This book has mystery, romance, action and resolution!📣
Don't miss out.
The narration is on point as usual. I finished this book and tried to start another book but was so unhappy because I wanted K. Hvam back.

Fantastic preformence by Lorelei King as usual.

Charlie is hilarious as usual! If you never listened you are missing a top 10 read. Charlie and the crew have to stop a malevolent god who also happens to be her husband.
Nonstop action and comedy keep you listening.

Well written and narrated.

This was listed as a children's book but I don't think it is. The creep factor is high and there's a lot going on. I absolutely love the level of action and I think most paranormal fans will love this series. The main character is 13 but the things going on in the story are definitely adult situations. There's no sex or really any romantic moments so if you don't like sex breaks it's perfect for you.

Slow start but worth it.

I think Robin Miles will be one of my new favorite narrators. Her style is smooth and her cadence os hypnotic. I forgot she was reading and fell into the story.
The story has SciFi and Fantasy elements that blend well. Characters are well thought out and no one is perfect. I believe everyone will find someone to relate to in this series.
Well done Brandon Barr. I can't wait for the next in the series.
