Snooze fest
Revisado: 10-28-23
Stilted narration with a painfully plodding storyline. Just couldn’t get past the third episode. The main character describes mundane aspects of his daily business as though listeners should care.

Historia
Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day. It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica. But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history. Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Intriguing story with plot twists that are believable but thankfully not forecast. Excellent narration that seamlessly transitions between Scottish and Australian accents. This is my first Anni Taylor book, but certainly not my last.

Unable to stop listening! Well written story with a few twists and turns, surprising down to the last paragraph. Great narration, but narrator could improve on conveying male voices; most sounded feminine.

I tried to like this story
Revisado: 11-18-21
The author of this book should find a new career. The writing is juvenile, repetitive, and boring. The narrator adds to the horror by being overly dramatic about everything. I made it about 1/3 of the way through this story with the hope that it might improve, before I finally gave up.

not as engaging as her other stories

A good beginning and ending, but the majority of the story was a retelling of the French revolution with characters that did not entirely capture my interest, and so I plodded through.

Historia
At the novel's center: the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt, hero, leader, inspirer, irresistible force, irrepressible spirit, battling (and ultimately reconciling with) a strange otherworldly form that has somehow taken possession of Lestat's undead body and soul. This ancient and mysterious power and unearthly spirit of vampire lore has all the force, history, and insidious reach of the unknowable universe.

unabridged version is repetitive beyond tolerable
Revisado: 08-30-21
I struggled to finish this book; it felt like work, so much repetitive material that began to feel preachy, perhaps even forced, as though the writer was just trying to appease her fandom's love of this series. I usually like Simon Vance as a narrator, but found his interpretation of Lestat to be particularly grating. Perhaps reading, rather than listening to the unabridged version would have been better. I grew up reading and loving many of Anne Rice's works, including the Vampire Chronicles. For those who loved the V. Chronicles, I highly recommend trying the unabridged version. And if you have tired of the V. Chronicled, I recommend Anne Rice's series about the Mayfair Witches.

Good follow up to Book 1
Revisado: 12-23-20
But as a fan of Toni Frutin’s narration from book 1, I was frustrated by the seemingly monotone narration of Gary Furlong, to the point of nearly canceling my purchase. Thankfully the story was compelling enough to suffer through his sections.
