Historia
With over 70 million records sold, Black Sabbath, dubbed by Rolling Stone “the Beatles of heavy metal,” helped create the genre itself, with their distinctive heavy riffs, tuned down guitars, and apocalyptic lyrics. Bassist and primary lyricist Geezer Butler played a gigantic part in the band’s renown, from suggesting the band name to using his fascination with horror, religion, and the occult to compose the lyrics and build the foundation of heavy metal as we know it. In Into the Void, Butler tells his side of the story.

Historia
In Rocks, Joe Perry exposes his unrepentant, unbridled life as the lead guitarist of Aerosmith. He delves deep into his volatile, profound, and enduring relationship with singer Steve Tyler and reveals the real people behind the larger-than-life rock gods onstage. The nearly five-decade saga of Aerosmith is epic, at once a study in brotherhood and solitude that plays out on the killing fields of rock and roll.

Revisado: 12-11-23
Great book. All of it was interesting and engaging. I listened to Aerosmith growing up, even had an Aerosmith belt buckle when I was a kid :) I’m really happy I got this audiobook. It was worth every minute. Joe Perry comes across as a straight up guy. What a cool story he has to tell.

Absolutely fantastic book
Revisado: 12-17-21
Highly recommend. I’ve read a bunch of books on bears, mostly b/c I like being in the backcountry but don’t want to have or be a problem. This book fits right in with that mentality and has great info taken from the author’s life experience, from history, and from current literature. Full disclosure, I skipped over some of the 19th century carnage, I’m familiar with that period of time. The book is excellent, full of info and, the way I think of it: well-rounded. I recommend this one. Thx goes out to Dihle for writing it.

Historia
A dozen years into his dream job keeping watch over the Gila National Forest of New Mexico, Philip Connors bore witness to the blaze he had always feared: a megafire that forced him off his mountain by helicopter and forever changed the forest and watershed he loved. It was one of many transformations that arrived in quick succession, not just fire and flood, but the death of a fellow lookout in a freak accident and a tragic plane crash that rocked the community he called home.

Revisado: 08-31-19
I thought this would be more of Fire Season, Connors’ earlier book. Definitely not, it’s so much more. A reflection on life, death, healing, friendship, and the river, this is a book worth reading or hearing. There is a lot said in a few hours of listening time.

What a gem
Revisado: 04-06-19
I think the marketing info for this book said if you liked Wild you would like The Sun is a Compass. This is true. However, The Sun is a Compass is an entirely different story written by an author at a different point in life, about a trip of a lifetime that few will ever consider, and fewer ever accomplish. As a bonus, there are the birds, the land, the journey, and the reflections. Great book. Highly recommend.

Historia
Coyote America is both an environmental and a deep natural history of the coyote. It traces both the five-million-year-long biological story of an animal that has become the "wolf" in our backyards and its cultural evolution from a preeminent spot in Native American religions to the hapless foil of the Road Runner. A deeply American tale, the story of the coyote in the American West and beyond is a sort of Manifest Destiny in reverse.

Great book, super well researched. Some tough sections, but true for any “nature” book that includes history from the nineteenth century. Well worth the time. I learned a lot and am also motivated to learn more.

"I never set out to hike 10,000 miles. It just sort of happened over the course of a decade." And so goes Lawton Grinter's compelling collection of short stories that have been over ten years and 10,000 trail miles in the making. I Hike brings the reader trailside with blissful moments on the highest mountain ridges to the mental lows of mosquito hell and into some peculiar situations that even seasoned hikers may find unbelievable.

Historia
From a brilliant new literary voice comes a groundbreaking exploration of how trails help us understand the world, from tiny ant trails to hiking paths that span continents, from interstate highways to the Internet. In 2009, while hiking the Appalachian Trail, Robert Moor began to wonder about the paths that lie beneath our feet: How do they form? Why do some improve over time while others fade? What makes us follow or strike off on our own?
