Historia
The tide is turning against the colonists in the Revolutionary War, and 18-year-old Elizabeth Morris cannot sit by idly. Quietly disdainful of her Tory parents, who drag her along to society events and welcome a British soldier into their home during their occupation of New York City, Elizabeth decides to take matters into her own hands. She realizes that, as a young woman, no one around her believes that she can comprehend the profound implications of being a nation at war - she is, effectively, invisible. And she can use this invisibility to her advantage.

a quick gem not to be overlooked!
Revisado: 07-12-20
I love how Marie Benedict brought into focus the lives of women in our history, showing how courageous and instrumentally resourceful women where and still are in helping fight for freedom, and that they need to have a place in our history books! Erasing women from history is something that we have done for far too long. It was an honor to read Marie Benedict, even though it may partially be fictitious, simply because women were erased from even existing in history. I enjoyed how of this author dug deep in her research and found the victorious Women who helped shape the world we live in now. No longer is Agent 355 and her brave and frightful support for freedom invisible!
Thank you Marie Benedict, for uncovering the missing link of women's experiences and they're courageous fight in shaping the world we have to day!
Emily Rankin was a smart choice as a narrator for this book!

For maverick LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch, the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal...because the murdered man was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who had fought side by side with him in a hellish underground war. Now Bosch is about to relive the horror of Nam.

another Police/crime procedural story
Revisado: 07-10-20
The Black Echo was a good story if you enjoy police procedural stories rather than a crime mystery loaded with suspense.
The Black Echo was very procedural in areas and it lost me many times, but I found my way back. These heavy procedural parts reminded me of books that give a lot of 'landscape descriptors' while reading. Eventually, the author heads back to the story.
I'm not surprised to know that a t.v. series was made from the 'Harry Bosch Series.' If this book is the same in the series than there will be more than enough material for screenwriters.
I didn't mind this Police crime procedural story, however, in my humble opinion, author Micheal Connelly could have given the same story with much less chapters. The story dragged on when there was no need for it. Not sure if I will carry on with the 'Harry Bosch Series.'
I would have liked the story if there was more than one narrator. When a book has multiple character both male and female, it's impossible for a narrator to come up with that many voices.

Sixteen-year-old Nomi Nickel longs to hang out with Lou Reed and Marianne Faithfull in New York City's East Village. Instead she's trapped in East Village, Manitoba, a small town whose population is Mennonite: "the most embarrassing sub-sect of people to belong to if you're a teenager". East Village is a town with no train and no bar whose job prospects consist of slaughtering chickens at the Happy Family Farms abattoir or churning butter for tourists at the pioneer village.

...deeply satisfying!
Revisado: 07-02-20
A COMPLICATED KINDNESS written and performed by Canadian authour, Miriam Toews, makes me proud to be a Canadian.
A COMPLICATED KINDNESS was indeed a perfect name for this novel. Showing the life of a 16-year-old girl growing up as an orthodox Mennonite in a very secluded area, can only be complicated. This novel felt like a stream of esoteric ramblings, and, for the purpose of this novel, this was the only way it could have been written. I enjoyed how the novel was strictly from the point of view of the 16-year-old protagonist and, for the most part, it stayed in the present moment. When the book did jump around, I did not get lost, as I always knew that I was listening to a ‘moment to moment’ experience of a 16-year-old girl.
Miriam Toews performed the reading exceptionally well. If she had gotten someone else to read her novel it would not have come off so well.
I don't want to go into too much detail about this novel as it will give too much away. What's I will say is that A COMPLICATED KINDNESS took me on a roller coaster of Unexpected emotions, left me with many unanswered questions, and broke my heart. However, in the end, the unanswered questions, the Unexpected roller coaster of emotions, and the breaking heart made this novel very satisfying.
Life, yours and mine, is not neatly packaged up in yellow tissue paper and pink bows. Life is raw. Life is hard. Life is unexpected. And this is what makes life beautiful.
I feel that the author Miriam Toews did a fantastic job at showing the real blows of life from the perspective of a 16-year-old girl living in a very complicated world.

This is the second time I have listened to a theatrical Audible original. I find the quality that goes into the entire production is outstanding. I would really love to have more of these one person theatrical plays.
'Proof of Love,' by playwright Chisa Hutchinson is a beautiful exploration of love, social class, deceit, culture, race and being human... all at the pivotal point of impending loss through tragedy.
The writing and narration was absolutely stunning!

No. Just, NO.
Revisado: 06-26-20
I put almost 11 hours into reading “Somebody I Use to Know,” by author David Bell. It was hard to fathom how someone could write so much and yet, say so little. My suggestion would be that author David Bell consider an editor for any more of his books.
It's one of those situations as I was reading, where I kept hoping that the next chapter it would get better, but, unfortunately, it never did. The story just kept going around and around and around. I was actually happy to see the ending coming, but, I knew I was not going to get the satisfaction I had hope for from this book.
It started out with so much promise, which is why I kept reading. The synopsis of the book was really engaging, which is why I used to credit to purchase it. The story just kept going on a downhill spiral into an endless void of nothingness. The ending was incredibly rushed. It felt like the author, David Bell, lost his way somewhere shortly after he had begun the story, and, instead of going back to re-create a better road map for his book, David Bell just kept writing until all of the words in the novel became pointless and all of the characters became useless.
The entire novel fell flat. The ending was dry and unsatisfying. I got the feeling that David Bell may have thought his ending was somewhat witty and intelligent. Perhaps David Bell felt that using the writing trick of ending a novel with a bit of mystery would be amusing. This may have worked if the novel stay true to being a suspenseful mystery, rather than a trip through memory lane for a few middle-aged friend/lovers.
This novel felt like an amateur writing.
When the author decided to simply ‘misplace’ one of the main characters after the book was halfway through, and never bring that useful character back, told me I would never read anything by David Bell, again.
I felt the narrator Andy Paris did a fine job for what he was having to read. I do not feel that the narrator is very good pretending to be a female. I think this narrator would be better just reading male characters.

was unable to stop listening
Revisado: 06-19-20
author, Brittainy C. Cherry, wrote, yet again, another heartfelt and soul-searching story. I was taken into the most intimate, tender and jagged edges of two 'restless' people who relentlessly navigate, together, the stormy waters of love, in search of calm seas and peaceful land to settle the highs and lows of their hearts.
the characters are authentic and relatable to anyone who has dared to fall 'madly in love' and expose all the light and shadows of their tender heart with another person. Brittainy C. Cherry did not hold back in jolting my heart through the highs and lows of her remarkable characters. I was unable to stop listening. it was an exhilarating journey to follow.
the narration by Graham Halstead and Emily Woo Zeller was/is a brilliant match. they definitely both brought the characters and chemistry of 'THE FIRE BETWEEN HIGH & LO' to life.

A FUN and lighthearted crime mystery!
Revisado: 06-07-20
I didn't know what to expect with this book and I was pleasantly surprised. I enjoy reading historical crime fiction mysteries. I have been reading a lot of heavy and plot-ladened books in this genre lately, and felt I needed to bit of break. When I saw “Murphy's Law” it seemed like a good fit in the same genre. It is a lighthearted crime mystery and it was ever so much fun! Miss. Molly Murphy, the sassy, independent and quick-witted Irish protagonist, was a delight and had me laughing many times.
In audiobooks the voice actor is just as important, if not more so, then the novel itself. It is the voice actor who brings the novel to life through embodying the characters. I found voice actress, Nicola Barber, does a fantastic job breathing life into the character of Miss Molly Murphy. I will definitely check out other books narrated by Nicola Barber.
The only challenge I had with voice actress, Nicola Barber, was that of her male voices. Unfortunately, all of her male voices sounded very similar and quite dense. I am not certain that was the intention of all the male characters in the novel. Perhaps this could be rectified with a male voice actor working alongside Nicola Barber?
Overall, I found “Murphy's Law” a Spectacular novel to listen to. I will definitely be taking a look at the other books in this series from author Rhys Bowen.

terrible ending
Revisado: 05-31-20
I have never anything by Lucy Dawson before this book. I was very excited by the premise of this story. The story had all the makings of a very good crime mystery thriller. I mean who would pass on an opportunity when a story begins with the protagonist waking up in a taxicab miles away from her home with zero knowledge of how she got there. I certainly was very much committed to finding out what happened and why.
Unfortunately, the third act.... literally the last 18 minutes of the story the authors decided to 'crash and burn' the entire plot, characters, dialogue and story. It felt as though the author did not know how to end the story so ....she didn't. It was huge let down from what otherwise, would have been a very good story.
To have placed so much time into absorbing a story and appreciating the characters, only to have the author treat the ending with complete disrespect, was very unprofessional. And it was disrespectful to the reader.
I was unfortunately appalled. I will never read anything by this particular author again.
