Intriguing story. Suspenseful and realistic.
Revisado: 03-11-25
I loved the way it was performed. Actors and “staging “ was great. Like an old time radio show but much better. Joseph Fiennes’ calm and understated performance is chilling.

Historia
Welcome to Derry, Maine. It’s a small city, a place as hauntingly familiar as your own hometown. Only in Derry the haunting is real. They were seven teenagers when they first stumbled upon the horror. Now they are grown-up men and women who have gone out into the big world to gain success and happiness. But the promise they made 28 years ago calls them reunite in the same place where, as teenagers, they battled an evil creature that preyed on the city’s children.

This is an awful book.
Revisado: 02-02-25
I like Stephen King, but this is just awful. But for my tendency to finish what I start, I would have tossed this several times for its idiotic plot, too many “monsters,” over length, annoying protagonists, icky plot lines and pretentiousness. Worst of all it was not even scary. The audio book is somewhat redeemed by a great narrator/performance, but don’t waste your credits. This is one of only two audio books I’m deleting from my library!

Interesting characters and story. Typical King wraps you up in the lives of his people.

Loved the story. Sometimes the characters were a bit too articulate. Too many characters speak with such analytic prose. The reader/performer was incredible!

Historia
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

How Does He Do It??
Revisado: 06-24-24
I have not found Stephen King’s books scary since Salem’s Lot and parts of The Stand. Even so, I enjoy his books immensely. The characters are fascinating in this book. I could not stop listening. How can King come up with these concepts and characters year after year?? Only drawback to this production is Stephen King’s narration of two of the stories. Please, your voice and acting simply does not match your writing. Hire someone else to read it!!! Great surprise as I did not enjoy The Regulators which was too perverse - even for me who really enjoys King.

Revisado: 12-17-22
I never new Dragnet was so raw and visceral. It must have been easier to take once a week, but I’m listening to these half hour episodes one after another and they are a hard world to delve into. I never dreamed I’d say this but Dragnet is well written, well acted and very well produced. I’ve listened to the first 116 episodes and I can’t stop. Wow!!

Historia
Cassie McDowell’s life in 1980s Minnesota seems perfectly wholesome. She lives on a farm, loves school, and has a crush on the nicest boy in class. Yes, there are her parents’ strange parties and their parade of deviant guests, but she’s grown accustomed to them. All that changes when someone comes hunting in Lilydale. One by one, local boys go missing. One by one, they return changed - violent, moody, and withdrawn. What happened to them becomes the stuff of shocking rumors. The accusations of who’s responsible grow just as wild, and dangerous town secrets start to surface.

Weird, disturbing and sadly compelling!
Revisado: 07-18-22
Despite the criticism, I found the ending completely satisfying. This is a just weird book. Didn’t really know what it’s about until a third of the way through, and then what’s being insinuated begins to materialize with the effect of a slap in the face. Dark. Very dark. Yucky. It’s sad to think this is based on a true story. I don’t like to summarize the story when the the title details suffice, but I will say the ending is quite satisfying except for those who perhaps lack imagination or need a roadmap. Also, the performance is fine! Of course she sounds like a young girl: the story is told from the perspective of a 13 year old!!

The modern master of suspense Ira Levin returns to the horror of his 1967 groundbreaking novel Rosemary's Baby with this darkly comic sequel set at the dawn of the millennium. Thirty-three years ago, Rosemary gave birth to the Devil's child while under the control of the satanic cult of witches. Now the year is 1999, and humanity dreads the approaching 21st century, desperately in search of a savior for this troubled world.

What a waste…
Revisado: 02-11-22
Not a single appealing character, including Rosemary. Interesting opening devolves into a 70’s made-for-TV movie, and a mediocre one at that. I won’t give away the plot details because the premise is the really intriguing thing about the book. Read it to satisfy your curiosity kindled by the original masterpiece. I didn’t expect an equal sequel, but I expected more than this mildly entertaining, ultimately hokey piece of trash.

Historia
Ever since he became a Christian at the age of 40, it has been Poirot actor David Suchet's dream to make an audio recording of the complete Bible. In between filming the final episodes of Poirot, David Suchet spent over 200 hours in the recording studio to create the very first full-length audio version of the NIV Bible spoken by a single British actor.

Incredible Reading by David Suchet!!
Revisado: 08-02-20
I’m about halfway through this massive reading but I could not wait to post my first review with commentary.
I’m no scholar, But the lack of the production to include a workable table of contents and meaningful chapter headings cannot detract from this magnificent performance by David Suchet. Despite many theology classes, this currently self-professed, agnostic-atheist never read the Bible cover to cover (totally my bad), but I’m doing it now because of this work.
I had to pull out my bible from freshman year of high school to make sure God really asks Adam in Genesis “Who told you that you were naked?” quite this way! Confirmed!! It’s just the way Suchet’s voice changes to deliver this line that stops you in your tracks, which I suppose is the effect it had on Adam.
I coincidentally discovered Suchet after deciding to watch a Poirot episode on Britbox. Nothing there prepared me for the velvety, resonate baritone that you hear in this reading. Suchet changes his pitch and tone for narration, different historical figures, situations and genders, demonstrating a great vocal speaking range. He saves his most somber, understated but powerful tone for the voice of god.
See if his performance in Genesis hits you like it did me!!
