I know how crazy this will sound, but after a freak accident, I woke up in the 1950s...and met a really special guy. His name is Daniel Parker. He's adorable, sweet, hot, and everything else I've been searching for. There might be a way to return to my own time, but I'm not sure I can leave him.

Trying to say too many things at once
Revisado: 01-17-23
I wanted to like this book. I really did. I gave it a chance. I thought the main character was charming enough in the beginning. But once the time travel started…
The premise of this book is simple enough: a black (this is a major theme) teenager gets sent back in time to 1952 and meets his own grandmother, as well as the family that lives in his house in the present. He falls in love with that family’s son, who just happens to be his grandmothers best friend.
There’s just too many convenient coincidences. The family that lives in his house happens to have a gay son that MC had seen in old photographs his grandmother owned AND remembers it AND thought he was cute? I’d maybe buy one of those things. Maybe. Oh, also they’re weirdly open-minded for a white family.
That’s another thing; the MC and his family experience racism, but at the same time it’s not a big deal. MC will go on long rants about civil rights issues and get preachy about modern day politics while at the same time experiencing actual racism, but nothing that’s too much of a bummer.
Also harps on modern day stuff like social media and things that are going to make the book feel dated. I didn’t feel much chemistry, either. It’s a bummer bc I loved the concept but it was just boring. DNF.

Historia
As a necromancer, Shae loses a little more of himself every time he uses his magic. Always cold, always touch-starved, the only thing that helps is human contact. But that's hard to come by when those same dark powers scare everyone away from him. Nobody likes a necromancer. Arthur's still bitter and broken after his last lover stabbed him in the back, and the last thing he needs is another brush with evil. When he agrees to escort the wandering necromancer north, he's just doing a public service. But he never expected Shae to be so clingy. Or distractingly attractive.

Nothing groundbreaking, but entertaining
Revisado: 05-09-22
The Necromancer’s Light is decently entertaining. The world building is strong, even though it does just feel like re-skinned dnd most of the time. I really enjoyed Shay’s story. Arthur’s less so.
The narration was alright. Cringey at certain points. He really shines with Shay, and not many other characters.
Decently enjoyable, but I’m glad I didn’t spend any money on it
