Why Negative Reviews
Revisado: 09-22-22
Ha ha, I almost didn't get this book because of the negative reviews. I did it anyways and I am glad I did. First, it is a good story. It's not the best story I have heard but it kept my attention. I finished it in 4 days, two days of driving and it kept me awake. It's very hard to find a good story today, I have over 300 audiobooks and this as far as the story goes would be in the top 10 to 20%. The mechanics of telling it were a little awkward at times but it kept my attention. Cussing was very limited, maybe just a handful of F*** for all 21 hours. Kevin Pierce is always AWESOME! Sarah Morsey plays the deceased grandmother so when Joe reads a letter it is her voice.
This is about an ordinary guy Joe who inherits money and land from his grandmother and then an EMP causes society to collapse. It has great struggles, heroes, villains, and love stories mixed in.
About the negative reviews. Let's face it, people, there is evil in the world, and if or when the restraint of laws and enforcement collapse, the sky is the limit to the evil that will be unleashed. Hitler did what he wanted to the Jews because no one stopped him, he had little to no restraint. Just think of a world with law and order one day and a free-for-all the next. So, a 12 to 13-year-old girl likes a boy older than her? Go back in history and this was not uncommon. I think the author handled this okay. You can't apply today's laws and norms to a world full of chaos. Also, in this world of chaos men and women need each other and depend on each other and their communities. The book has men protecting women and women wanting protection but also some of the main women in the book are just as capable of defending and fighting as the men. I don't see the problem but I am from an older generation, snowflakes and other like-minded people will probably hate this book.

If society collapsed, could you survive? When Morgan Carter's car breaks down 250 miles from his home, he figures his weekend plans are ruined. But things are about to get much, much worse: the country's power grid has collapsed. There is no electricity, no running water, no Internet, and no way to know when normalcy will be restored - if it ever will be.

Listened Non-Stop to Book 10 and Want More
Revisado: 06-02-22
This series was recommended by a co-worker who I don't know very well but I had extra credits and decided to try it. I was not disappointed. I power listened through 10 books and I will probably take a year off and listen to them all again when book 11 comes out. I'm not going to try to sum up the books or even this book, you should just burn a credit and see if you like it. If not, you can always return it. I do not know the author or any authors, I am not a bot, I am a genuine audiobook junkie with almost 300 books, not all survival books. This series is one of my favorites because of the story. I also liked The Last Kingdom and the Parno and Fire series by N.C. Reed. I have other books I like but it's really hard to find good stories today. This is an excellent story.

Historia
Its Thanksgiving on the Sanders Farm. Clayton Sanders and his collection of friends, family, and even a few strangers have managed to keep themselves moderately safe in a vicious new world, brought about by the most massive Coronal Mass Ejection ever seen or recorded. Anything electrical and not protected from the surge of power has been completely fried. Most cars won’t start, the electrical grid has crashed, people with pacemakers in their chests have dropped dead in their tracks, the list goes on and on of things and lives destroyed by an electrical storm.

So Good it is Worth a Second Listen
Revisado: 06-02-22
This is an outstanding series! This is my second time listening to the series. I thought I would be bored the second time around but this is NOT SO. See my review on book 12. I was so involved in the story I didn't want to take the time to write a review and by the time I was finished I couldn't remember what happened in which book, but you don't need this from me. Listen for yourself, I am taking the time now to encourage others to give it a try.
At nearly 300 books to choose from in my library, this is one of my favorite series and I wish I could find more like this. If you like this series I highly recommend the Parno series. I don't know N.C. Reed and I rarely review books. Lee Allen is perfect for this series. The characters are rich, and the story is written well enough for me to want more books.

Historia
The situation around the Sanders’ farm is bleak, and likely to remain that way. A region trying to right itself after an incredible disaster is hit once again. This time, it may well be a knockout blow for many. The farm is still running, still surviving, and still trying to get things restarted. Isolation has been the only preventative for the plague, and this leaves them with little to no news of anything happening in the wider world. That is about to change. The Fires of America seem to have truly burned out, leaving nothing more than a few embers. But embers can still burn….

The Entire Series is Worth It
Revisado: 06-02-22
What makes a good story, romance, a villain, struggle, and strife, overcoming odds? This saga has all of this and more, it is an excellent story, I recommend the entire series, so much so that I listened to the first 11 books a second time, just to listen to this one book. I have not listened to any other series a second time until now. I thought I would be bored the second time but I was not. It says a lot when you can listen to a series more than once and still be entertained. So, for the cost or credits, I have a series that keeps on entertaining me. Since I enjoyed this so much a second time around, I decided to listen to the Parno series again. I honestly don't know which series I like more. It's very hard to find a series like this one, it would be nice if there were a dozen N.C. Reed's to keep up with my listening habits because he is one of my favorite authors.
Let me say a word about cussing in audiobooks. I find it is far easier to read a book with cussing than listening to one. This author reserves cussing to truly draw out extreme stress or evil. I have spent 30+ years in the military so my ears are not virgin ears and my tongue is not a golden tongue. My beef with excessive cussing in a book shows the author lacks the ability to tell a good story. N.C. Reed does not have this problem.
I have seen some negative comments about Lee Allen as a narrator. Crazy! In my opinion, he is perfect for this series.
I rarely write reviews. I have 298 books in my library, I never met N.C. Reed (or whatever his real name is), I just think this is one of the best series I have listened to. The only other series I may listen to again is The Last Kingdom and A. American Going Home series.

What a Brilliant Plan
Revisado: 05-24-20
How does N. C. Reed come up with this stuff? He has me guessing all the time and I enjoy it. After listening to this book, I want to find a military strategy book to listen too. It is the characters and the strategy that draw me in along with the buildup and suspense. Awesome book and awesome series, waiting on the next one.

Great Listen
Revisado: 05-24-20
This series was and is worth every credit. The Parno series is my favorite series of all the books I have so far, and I have almost 200. I like them because they are good stories and for the most part N. C. Reed writes a clean story. However, this book had one or two questionable parts, but they added to the story. I really enjoy the character development. It is important to have characters you root for and there is a lot of rooting going on in this book and in the next.

Historia
Clayton Sanders left home the minute he had his high school diploma in hand. He waited that long only because the army wouldn't accept him without one. Now, 10 years later, he's home, with no warning, no advance notice, no anything after being gone 10 years with almost no contact with his family. Home carrying a secret that is burning him up from the inside. A secret that has pushed him to the brink, forcing him to become a criminal in order to be where his family needs him to be, even though they don't realize it yet.

Starts Slow But Best Series Ever!
Revisado: 03-08-20
For me the series started slow but it builds and builds and ended up being my favorite series of all time and I have listened to almost 200 books over the years (don't watch much TV). I just finished book 8 and I highly recommend this series. I bought Odd Billy Todd on a sale and then I listened to the Parno series and both of those are very good too. I didn't think I would like this series so I put it off based on some of the reviews and honestly the first book was a little slow for me but by the end of book one, I was curious about book two, by the end of book two I could not put the series down. Not that book one was bad but it's not as good as the rest of N. C. Reed books. What I really like is the characters in the book, the need to survive against the odds and the drama adds another dimension. I listen to books with thousands of reviews and they are not as good as this series. The narrator does the voices really well. So is it worth it, yes! If there were 20 books in the series I would listen to them all and probably not get any work done.

By the most ludicrous of means, special ops soldier Clayton Sanders had a warning that something was going to happen to the world. Clay prepared for the worst, but just because you're well prepared doesn't mean everything is going to be okay. Clay has faced some of the worst humanity has to offer in all parts of the world, but now he is faced with something much worse than terrorists. His family.

WOW! It keeps getting better
Revisado: 03-08-20
This series was so good I didn't even take the time to write a review. I went straight for the next book, then the next book and now book 8 is finished. Keep going, several twists and turns. This is just a good story. I normally listen to books that have thousands of reviews, best sellers and they don't write a good story like this. The narrator grew on me. He does the Old Man very well, Clay, Brick and many others. You can see the layout of the land, the towns the fortified positions it all comes to life. You have good guys you like, bad guys you like to hate and the survival of a family. Many hard choices to make. Keep going the series keeps getting better and better.

Bandits. Forest fires. Cannibals. Material shortages. Family problems. Why had Clayton Sanders expected these issues and others like them to be absent from life at the end of the modern world? It had sounded good anyway. His plan had been simple: dig in, hunker down, and wait it out. And then his family had gotten involved. Now he has to defend his family farm from an old enemy of his father and prevent him and his army of miscreants from taking the very things Clay and the others need to survive.

What an awesome series. Just when things are looking up there's fire. Will they all survive? Well, I just finished book 8 and the story keeps building. This was a very important book and some of the characters you didn't like so much you might end up liking. So much is in this book and much more is on its way. All you need to know is it is worth a credit. I even bought extra credits to finish the series. Now I'm waiting on book 9. Also, check out the Parno series and Odd Billy Todd. All are awesome.
