Historia
It’s the summer of 2019, and Professor Pi Suleman is a Black man from Memphis with a lot to endure - not only as a Black man in Trump’s America but in his hard-earned career as an adjunct professor. Pi is constantly forced to bite his tongue in the face of one of his tenured colleague’s prejudices and microaggressions. At the same time, he’s being blackmailed by a powerful professor who threatens to claim he has assaulted her, when in fact the truth is just the opposite, trapping him in a he-said-she-said with a white woman that, in this society, Pi knows he will never win.

I really enjoyed this story. Although I kind of guessed the end I didn't know really know the fall out that was to become in the story. It was so good!

Historia
It's a summer's evening in Amsterdam, and two couples meet at a fashionable restaurant for dinner. Between mouthfuls of food and over the polite scrapings of cutlery, the conversation remains a gentle hum of polite discourse - the banality of work, the triviality of the holidays. But behind the empty words, terrible things need to be said, and with every forced smile and every new course, the knives are being sharpened. Each couple has a 15-year-old son. The two boys are united by their accountability for a single horrific act; an act that has triggered a police investigation and shattered the comfortable, insulated worlds of their families.

Ok
Revisado: 07-19-15
It took forever to get into this story. I was trying to figure out why the main character had such animosity for his older brother and the tension between his son. It almost seemed
Comical to me at first, but few serious as the book went on. Geez, I wish more details behind the (spoiler alert) murder of Bo was revealed and why he needed to blackmail his brother and cousin.
Guess I need to process and discuss this book with someone to answer some of the questions that I have.

Still processing
Revisado: 07-12-15
I liked book, but am still processing
What I liked and disliked about the book. I do like that the book did not answer all my questions, but that's reality of most of our lives. Still thinking about Delores' feelings or lack thereof around her father's death, or fully understanding the connection she had with her mother's best friend, or the strain an tension with her grandmother.
I liked Delores' sarcasm
And enjoyed witnessing her softening as the book went on. Interesting.

In 1987, Miri Ammerman returns to her hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey, to attend a commemoration of the worst year of her life. Thirty-five years earlier, when Miri was 15, and in love for the first time, a succession of airplanes fell from the sky, leaving a community reeling. Against this backdrop of actual events that Blume experienced in the early 1950s, when airline travel was new and exciting and everyone dreamed of going somewhere, she paints a vivid portrait of a particular time and place....

Hard to get into
Revisado: 06-21-15
I was so frustrated with this book. It took along time to get into. If I were reading this book, I would have put it down a early on. Thanks God for audible. I had my so what ears on so long into the book that I had to calm myself down to stay with the story. The number of characters made it extremely difficult to keep them
Straight and that was only accomplished midway into the book. It was a good story that could have used some editing.

It not the narrator's fault
Revisado: 06-04-15
I did not like this story. The way the plot scurried all over the place made me say so what too many times to track.
I read the author's other book, The Stranger and I thought it as great but this was boring a bit of a mess to me.

Historia
The summer that Nixon resigns, six teenagers at a summer camp for the arts become inseparable. Decades later the bond remains powerful, but so much else has changed. In The Interestings, Wolitzer follows these characters from the height of youth through middle age, as their talents, fortunes, and degrees of satisfaction diverge. The kind of creativity that is rewarded at age 15 is not always enough to propel someone through life at age 30; not everyone can sustain, in adulthood, what seemed so special in adolescence.
