Halfway thru the first book of this collection, and I'm walking away from the audiobook, to go grab the ebooks. So, kudos to the narrators for snagging the author some more cash?

Arden, got no complaints.

Mallon? .... Guh. There's no difference in her intonation and inflections regardless of the scene. Her sex scenes sound the same as her family scenes. There's an overly formal enunciation that makes words like "pussy" sound incredibly jarring and off-putting coming from her. Her voice for Evie and her voice for Quinn? Identical. In several of their scenes it seems like run on sentences from one character instead of a conversation between two. There is also a very rhythmic and predictable rise and fall in her speech patterns. Doesn't matter what she is saying or speaking about. Everything sounds the same. There is nothing conversational about dialogue. Everything seems... forced and overly produced.

Good voice. Just. Guh.

DNF due to female narrator

I was into the story right up until the female narrator took over. Not trying to be harsh here, but did no one listen to this before releasing? Anyone?

She gasps like a fish after literally every sentence. Big, very audible inhales like clock work. It’s the equivalent of listening to someone chew loudly with an open mouth. #cringe

I lasted five minutes into her first chapter and DNF’d. I’ll have to pick up the ebook instead.

Jillian Macie's male voices are... not good. And Australian accent? Lord, please don't. And when she was changing between Dylan and Liz, suddenly Liz had a heavy twang leftover from Dylan's accent. This was not her best performance.

There's little Troy Duran here. It would have completely turned this around to have him do the male voices in Jillian's chapters.

As far as the story... this was a weird MC. How did Jake get away with the wrong he did to Nix? In a normal MC, all Nix would have had to do was say Liz was off limits, Prez's word is law. And Nix clearly hates Jske, so why didn't he put his foot down? These brothers don't have each other's back at all. And how is Liz given so many chances to overhear critical information? The behaviors were weird and uncharacteristic.

I kinda regret using my credit.

Troy Duran knocked this out of the park. The book was good, would've made a pleasant read. Glad I did an audio of it so I got this book in Duran's tone.

Mia Madison didn't do a bad job. Had she been opposite another male narrator, I probably would have thought she did great. But she was definitely overshadowed by Duran in this.

Went to look for other books in this series, saw Shaker, got excited by the blurb... and am going to get the ebook instead, cause I don't really want another 7hrs of Mia/Troy and my brain focusing in on the disparity.

Wonder if Duran has any solo books? Hmmm.

Troy Duran got all the stars

Yeah. Troy Duran's narration of this book is the only reason it got any stars from me at all.

Heather Firth's narration of the FMC comes off as androgynous and flat. She does better when voicing secondary characters in this particular book, but the FMC was not well done.

The story had real potential. The execution in the writing was... terrible.

A dominant she wolf who wishes she were submissive. Ok, I'm listening. Except... the author clearly has no idea what dominance actually means. I had to DNF during the second major confrontation with FMC and Kade. There is no way that this chick is a dominant wolf, with dominant instincts. And for a character we've been told repeatedly is constantly thinking, spinning new ideas, strategizing, etc.... her utter lack of communication is absurd. She should have immediately told her alpha of her suspicions of Kade over the silo fire. She let Kade walk away with evidence in his pocket? Hell, all she would have had to do was scream to grab people's attention.

And for someone who is absolutely fixated on finding herself a mate to love her... she brutally put Luke down when he asked her out. Like, phew! that rejection! It made absolutely no sense in her character makeup, and contradicted everything that the author had repeated countless times up to this point: she wants a man. Uh.... apparently not.

I just honestly don't care anything about the FMC. At all.

Also, for those of you who like to focus on a single couple per book... this is not for you. This is formatted more like a saga, following the lives and relationships of numerous couples. We flit back and forth pretty consistently, thru their POV's and storylines.

I'm off to find something else with Troy Duran in it.

Legit. If you are a romance author, using anyone other than Connor is cray. I pass over so many good books because the male samples are....insipid. Not inspiring. Not sexy. You get the picture.

If Connor Crais is listed, I will autobuy that business at full price. Take. My. Money.

He'll make a 3 star book a 5 star review.

Really thought I'd like this, but DNF'd in Chpt 11. FMC was illogical and rude, massively ungrateful.

SPOILERS

She's the only human with good food, showers, book access, her own room with a door, and 4 guards who have never touched her or asked her for anything. They see her looking at a home decor magazine, take the bedroom spread from it, and do their best to makeover the master bedroom to match her magazine, and give her a private, working bathroom. Her response is a halfhearted "gee, thanks", and wanting them to get out of her room. It wasn't her room until literally 10 seconds ago, when they tried to surprise her with this massive, thoughtful upgrade in circumstance.

They bend over backwards to understand her, to make her life better. In her head, she recognizes this explicitly. She has yet to try to understand anything about them, ask a single question about them. She just takes what they give, and asks for more. These are simple soldiers, not wealthy leaders. They are having to trade and pay for everything she gets from them. After telling them how important naming is, she thoughtlessly applies hurtful names to them. "Romeo"? To the guy you just met with shotgun scarring across his face? You're a jerk.

I want these 4 guys to pick a better human.

Max Bellmore is fantastic!

I am horribly picky when it comes to audiobooks, and I hate about 90% of the narrators. Max Bellmore is NOT one of them! He could make a cereal box interesting! Combine him with a genuinely good book, and you have an audiobook worth your money!

I have read the book, and enjoyed the story. Unfortunately, narrators can make or break a novel, and I just could not listen to this. I got about an hour in, and I had to shut it off. I would highly recommend Max Bellmore as a narrator.
