Historia
Who is Audrey Hoedemaker? It's a question her sister Maureen has heard more times than she can count, and she doesn't know what the short answer would be. Little sister, troubled teen, backpacker, musical theatre coach, con artist, childcare worker. Murderer. A tragic, traumatic childhood casts a long shadow on the Hoedemaker sisters. Maureen has worked hard to move beyond the violence of the past and build a good, honest life for herself. Audrey, however, just can't seem to do the same, careening from one state of chaos to another.

Interesting delivery which worked for the story. Good plot.

I did enjoy the twist, but the the very end of the book I found confusing. After relistening to the last chapter and thinking through it, I believe I know what the author was doing. which is clever. But it's not backed up by anything in the story leading up to it.

Revisado: 12-28-24
I loved the to truth of it. the acting and portrayal of the experience were so compelling. my niece was born with cystic fibrosis and we had some scares that make me relate to this. it's heartbreakingly beautiful.
the ending is super blunt and confusing and I don't understand the author's intent there, but I'm so glad I experienced the story.

the make protagonist is a psychopath and the female protagonist is "the exception" who can change him but their first sexual encounter was so rape-like that I couldn't listen anymore. I don't understand why authors portray a man my ost likely to be an abuser as the dream man to catch. I know it's fiction but must you???

I appreciate that the author/narrator/protagonist spent 15 years of her life in the pursuit of answers and justice. in the end... spoiler alert... neither were satisfactorily reached. it's an interesting story, but I think could've been told in a one hour podcast more succinctly and appropriately.

It was well conveyed without drilling too much into academia, it helped me understand the true need to prioritize the processing and healing and rejuvenating that happens in an unconscious state.

The dissolute landowner Fyodor Pavlovich Karamazov is murdered; his sons - the atheist intellectual Ivan, the hot-blooded Dmitry, and the saintly novice Alyosha - are all at some level involved. Bound up with this intense family drama is Dostoevsky's exploration of many deeply felt ideas about the existence of God, the question of human freedom, the collective nature of guilt, the disatrous consequences of rationalism.

long. classic. worth it. but long.
Revisado: 03-14-24
narration was very talented but per direction, I'm sure, was dramatic and sometimes too much, I grew fatigued and had to take a break. nonetheless it was fitting with the period and characters, and the story is classic. philosophical tales do tend to be this way.
glad I got through it. it's a beautiful rendition of both good and evil always part of all of of us. the injustice in this story is somehow still just, it's a timeless thought provoker.
