Inspiring and entertaining. GVP has some great stories to tell from his years exploring the wilderness and from his daily life. Lots of valuable material, delivered efficiently, as one would expect from a master of ultralight.

The book I didn't know I needed
Revisado: 01-27-22
Travis Baldree is a narrator I'd been wanting to listen to, and I stumbled across this book. How delightful to find such a charming story. I found it engaging, intriguing, and strangely comforting to listen to. For me, it really evoked a Studio Ghibli film, and just like in those the films, the young characters are fully three dimensional humans, brought to life brilliantly by the performer. I will be eagerly awaiting Book 2.

Historia
As the climate veers toward catastrophe, the innumerable losses cascading through the biosphere make vividly evident the need for a metamorphosis in our relation to the living land. For too long we've inured ourselves to the wild intelligence of our muscled flesh, taking our primary truths from technologies that hold the living world at a distance. This audiobook subverts that distance, drawing listeners ever deeper into their animal senses in order to explore, from within, the elemental kinship between the body and the breathing Earth.

This vivid text is enlivened by the author’s reading. Written history versus oral history is in fact one of the main topics covered, so it is appropriate to experience it this way.

Historia
Recovering from a terrible auto accident just before the turn of the millennium, college dropout and hobbyist computer-game programmer Lucien Swenson becomes the caretaker of a house in Northern Minnesota. Shortly after moving in, Lucien sets out to find a woman with whom he had an affair, who vanished along with money stolen from the bank where they had worked together. His search will take him to Rose of Sharon, a white supremacist church deep in the wilderness, where a cabal of outcasts await the end of the world at a place they call The Land.

Masterfully written & performed
Revisado: 05-16-21
This spellbinding tale comes to life with a heartfelt, haunting performance by Matt Godfrey. I typically don't listen to fiction, but the narration here hooked me with its understated, naturalistic ease. It's like listening to a confession. Maltman's vivid, sensitive prose flows through the tightly written chapters. A great listen.

Historia
The construct of race has always been used to gain and keep power, to create dynamics that separate and silence. This remarkable reimagining of Dr. Ibram X. Kendi's National Book Award-winning Stamped from the Beginning reveals the history of racist ideas in America, and inspires hope for an antiracist future. It takes you on a race journey from then to now, shows you why we feel how we feel, and why the poison of racism lingers. It also proves that while racist ideas have always been easy to fabricate and distribute, they can also be discredited.

I enjoyed this peek into the brain of a young man contemplating love and romance, and found it to be enlightening and relatable. The narrator keeps things moving along crisply, which is crucial since much of the book is comprised not of action but of musings. I look forward to listening to The Course of Love next.

Historia
Eva never really wanted to be a mother - and certainly not the mother of a boy who ends up murdering seven of his fellow high school students, a cafeteria worker, and a much-adored teacher who tried to befriend him, all two days before his 16th birthday. Now, two years later, it is time for her to come to terms with marriage, career, family, parenthood, and Kevin’s horrific rampage, in a series of startlingly direct correspondences with her estranged husband, Franklin.
