Game changer for me!
Revisado: 12-19-23
Don’t let the focus on pop music deter you from reading this book. I don’t particularly care for pop but I have found that the techniques in this book are applicable for writing a more engaging and interesting song no matter the genre.
I love the energy curve approach. This was eye opening to me. I’ve already started approaching my song writing with these techniques and I’m seeing a huge improvement.
There is a LOT of good tips in here. I typically take notes on books I read, but I had to stop doing that halfway because I found myself just about handwriting 90 percent of the book. It’s full of quality content with very little filler or fluff.

Historia
Rory Miller's Facing Violence: Preparing for the Unexpected includes seven elements that must be addressed to bring self-defense training to something approaching complete. These elements are: legal and ethical implications, violence dynamics, avoidance, counter-ambush, breaking the freeze, the fight itself, and the aftermath. Training that dismisses any of these areas leaves you vulnerable.

Everyone needs to know this information
Revisado: 10-27-23
This was eye opening for me. I’ve dabbled in martial arts but never really dug into the reality of it all.
Even if you have no interest in martial arts, the information in here is very important to know.
I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t truly understand what qualified as true legal self-defense until reading this. I also didn’t fully grasp the aftermath of getting in a fight or the true dangers that are out there. This book showed me that I certainly have been raised on karate kid inside a sheltered home. Im certainly grateful for that and very grateful for the insight and lessons shared in this book.
Also, I loved the narrators voice. I am a bit of a tough customer with that. I tend to get easily irritated by some of the narrators on audio books but the narrator for this one is really good if you ask me.

More than 44 percent of Americans admit to losing sleep over stress. And while most of us do everything we can to reduce it, Stanford psychologist and best-selling author Kelly McGonigal, PhD, delivers a startling message: Stress isn't bad. In The Upside of Stress, McGonigal highlights new research indicating that stress can, in fact, make us stronger, smarter, and happier - if we learn how to embrace it.

I'm extremely glad I chose this book!
Revisado: 12-29-22
I just finished this book, and I am oddly excited to start my journey towards a new mindset on stress! I was looking for a book to help me lessen my stress but this one convinced me to embrace the existing stress instead.
I really enjoyed the author's vibe and delivery in this audio book. She is very pleasant to listen to and very humble, down-to-earth, and relatable.
One improvement that I would personally like to see is an accompanying workbook. I took notes on all the skills and exercises and I plan to organize it all in my own little personal playbook with my own ideas on how to incorporate them into my life. I wish a workbook was already made that would have short-cut all that for me. I would have been happy to pay extra for that option. I've seen other self help books that offer separate workbooks that you can purchase separately. I think this book would be a great candidate for that a supplementary workbook like that. Not having this doesn't take away from how good of a book this is though. It's just one of those things that would have been nice to have.
Overall a great book! I highly recommend it!
