Historia
Hard-drinking, hard-living poker players and prostitutes of the new boom towns; wives and mothers traveling two and a half thousand miles across the prairies in covered-wagon convoys, some of them so poor they walked the entire route; African-American women in search of freedom from slavery; Chinese sex-workers sold openly on the docks of San Francisco; Native American women brutally displaced by the unstoppable tide of white settlers–these were the women who settled the American West, whose stories until now have remained mostly untold.

Wonderful book intolerable narrator
Revisado: 01-14-23
The sample preface was read by the author and she was great but when I got the book it was actually narrated by a woman whose whiny high pitched and unpleasant voice made me cringe. I had to return the book and buy the hard copy which was amazing. We’ll written and researched. It was a real joy!
Probably the choice was made to have a narrator without an English accent but there are so many great American actors out there. This choice was disastrous!

At last the fabulous Lisette Returns to enliven these amazing characters with her remarkable talent. Her voice gives meaning and nuance to the series and there is no one like her! It’s a wonderful series and Lisette makes it even more engaging and charming.

Great new narrator
Revisado: 11-29-21
I loved listening to this series until that horrible new narrator on How to Raise an Elephant
. I returned that book after only a few pages in because of her.Now I’m thrilled with the new narrator.. If we can’t have Lisette Lecat then Bianca Amato is the next best thing. She’s wonderful and ensures that this series is still a joy to hear!

Unsatisfying
Revisado: 03-07-21
Not great. The female characters are either nasty and over sensitive or stupid and silly. The story is predictable and the male hero is rather shallow. The narrator made the unlikeable female protagonist even more objectionable by hi snippy delivery of her dialogue. Very disappointing.

Mick “Scorcherˮ Kennedy is the star of the Dublin Murder Squad. He plays by the books and plays hard, and thatʼs how the biggest case of the year ends up in his hands. On one of the half-abandoned “luxuryˮ developments that litter Ireland, Patrick Spain and his two young children have been murdered. His wife, Jenny, is in intensive care. At first, Scorcher thinks itʼs going to be an easy solve, but too many small things can't be explained.

Not the best!

This slipped into the horror genre with too much detail and psychosis. Great performance but not up to the earlier work I devoured with enthusiasm. This was a bit of a slog.

In the vast Alaskan Arctic, legend has it there once lived a mythic tribe—Iñukuns—that only existed in rumors and whispers. Smith was an aspiring actor with a promising career until it all came quickly crashing down with a gunshot, a manhunt, bloodshed, and other frightful events.

Performance ruined this
Revisado: 09-19-19
The story is great but the performance is so lackluster and just plain awful that I had to stop listening at chapter three. I just
couldn't bear her delivery. I did listen to a sample and thought it was just ok but bearable but on further listening it didn't work. I'm intrigued by the story and the writing is fine but an awful listen.Wish I hadn't spent the credit.

Historia
Jean McConville's abduction was one of the most notorious episodes of the vicious conflict known as The Troubles. Everyone in the neighborhood knew the I.R.A. was responsible. But in a climate of fear and paranoia, no one would speak of it. In 2003, five years after an accord brought an uneasy peace to Northern Ireland, a set of human bones was discovered on a beach. McConville's children knew it was their mother when they were told a blue safety pin was attached to the dress--with so many kids, she had always kept it handy for diapers or ripped clothes.
