AI ruined this
Revisado: 01-27-25
Good story, not fresh or exiting. Just more bloody than normal. Way to long, had to quit for a while and go read something more stimulating for a while before coming back to finish. AI ruined what might have been a good story, it was jarring and obviously not flowing like a human narrator. Could have been ok it you had spent the money and paid a human.

Wish it had a different Narrator
Revisado: 11-20-23
Good story, great dogs. I love when the author tells story thorough the dogs eyes, if the author really knows dogs. Really had a hard time finishing the book because of the narrator. Some people seem to like him, but I found him Very annoying, Every other comment is a secret, snide laugh. Don't know if I will follow the series if the narrator stays the same, at my age have hard time seeing to read anymore.

Entertaining book, HORIBLE narration
Revisado: 06-16-23
As a long time Supernatural fan I ordered these books. The stories were a bit trite, but entertaining. The problem was the narration, I might have actually really enjoyed reading these. Basic narration for primary characters was fairly good, but the narrator was terrible when it came to other characters, as if she had limited range and has to use childish and inane voices to differentiate. And the sound effects, they were so horrible I do not know how to express it. Bang, Bang Pow Pow? It was so annoying I often had to stop to give my brain a rest. I did enjoy the story, so I did come back and eventually finish but I often wished I could go back the reading even with my poor vision. Audible books are a blessing for people with limited vision and have allowed me to return to my life long passion of reading, but if all narrators were like this one, I would go back to TV, Thankfully not all are like this.

Just an easy read adventure story
Revisado: 10-03-22
This was a old fashioned science fiction adventure story. Not a lot of personality plots, and subplots or political intrigue. Just brave soldiers placing their lives between evil and their families. Reminds me of the Robert Heinlein Juveniles.

Lost another LONG time reader
Revisado: 01-09-22
Have read and loved all Bosch and Haller books until now. I underrated this book because although the main story and performance were great, as usual, the out of place and unnecessary political insertions ruined the book for me I almost couldn't finish will never read another Michael Connelly book again,

Good story poor narrator
Revisado: 12-22-21
Story and characters were good and there was a lot of dog info (a big plus for me). The narrator sounded like she was speed reading. I actually checked the speed I was playing it at! It was so annoying I almost didn't finish but I muddled through.

Not as good as 1-4
Revisado: 12-13-21
I started the series because I really enjoy K-9 mysteries. Volumes I-4 were very good all around performance and story. This one though failed to deliver. Instead of a strong action/adventure it read like a slow moving and brooding gothic romance. End saved it somewhat but I found myself plodding along actually wishing it would get over with. I have already purchased volume 6 so I will definitely continue and give the series 1 more chance.

OK story
Revisado: 03-05-21
Story was good, and narrator did a good job. Unusual vampire story. Author could have done a little more research into the surroundings of the story. Neutrons in the cooling water, don't think so, 1.8 R no problem for humans? may not be immediately deadly but not healthy to dunk you body into. And dumping over a hundred dead sailors into the sea on the way home during peacetime, I think the Navy would have had a few things to say about that captain. And other than the few 'hero's' of the book the cowardice of the sailors would make any submariner hang their head in shame.

Historia
Robert A. Heinlein wrote The Number of the Beast, which was published in 1980. In the book Zeb, Deety, Hilda, and Jake are ambushed by the alien "Black Hats" and barely escape with their lives on a specially configured vehicle (the Gay Deceiver) which can travel along various planes of existence, allowing them to visit parallel universes. However, unknown to most fans, Heinlein had already written a "parallel" novel about the four characters and parallel universes in 1977.

Better than the first 'version'
Revisado: 10-21-20
I read 'Number of the Beast' the old fashioned way not long after it was published and really enjoyed it, although other Heinlein fans and I decided it wasn't up to the standards of Time Enough and Stranger. We thought maybe Heinlein was getting a little OLD. This version is much better than Number, of course, perhaps 40 years later maybe I'm getting a little OLD. I think I will reread the audible version of Number to make a truly fair comparison.

I bought this book because I am a big fan of the authors father and mother, I was hoping for similar content. People who like this type of fiction might like it but I was looking for mysteries not graphic psychological horror.
