Great Book

Loved it as much now as when I was a kid. I just wish the narrator would learn how to pronounce Shannara.

Written so well it entertained and added to the lore of the prequel trilogy in meaningful, deep ways.

Due to unusual circumstances, Randidly starts in an isolated dungeon far beyond his level, forced to rely on the mysterious Traveler Shal in order to learn and survive with the dangerous new status quo for his world. But survive he does, only to leave the dungeon and discover that while he experienced several hellish months in the dungeon, only half a day passed on Earth. Randidly's capabilities are now more than enough to help build a small enclave of survivors, but that doesn't mean balancing his sense of responsibility against the plots of an unfriendly town will be easy.

Interesting But Only Good

Lots of interesting ideas. Good writing but it had a weak plot and weak characters.

The Long Walk: Good Early Work by King
Revisado: 11-01-23
Even early in his career, King knew how to work the up beats and down beats of a compelling story. The Long Walk is haunting in delivery and profound in its examination of the dystopian culture that created such a horrific practice and its parallels in the real world. This is a great read.

Historia
Charlie Reade looks like a regular high school kid, great at baseball and football, a decent student. But he carries a heavy load. His mom was killed in a horrific accident when he was seven, and grief drove his dad to drink. Charlie learned how to take care of himself—and his dad. When Charlie is seventeen, he meets a dog named Radar and her aging master, Howard Bowditch, a recluse in a big house at the top of a big hill, with a locked shed in the backyard. Sometimes strange sounds emerge from that shed.

Excellent Novel and Excellent Audio Book
Revisado: 09-29-23
Fairy Tale is a thoroughly enjoyable take on "fairy tales" while still very much being a Stephen King novel with all the traits and elements that make his stories great. Throw in a dash of Lovecraft and several other esteemed writers for good measure.
The audiobook adaptation is excellent although I found myself bouncing back and forth between the audio and the print version. There is a lot of wordplay in this story and it was fun to see how it sounded versus how it was written, specifically around names and the Empisarian language itself.

Mispronounced Shannara Throughout Entire Book
Revisado: 09-15-23
We know how Shannara is pronounced. It's not like Terry Brooks has passed away and no one remembers. We have videos and explanations. Really distracted by this during an otherwise good audio book.
