This book had the task of getting me to care about Lord Solar Leontus, a relatively new character in the 40k universe. It had to make me understand why this guy was the head of the Solar Segmentum's armies. Luckily it did. Leontus is a badass who is smart, cold at times but ultimately caring for the people under his command, and a great fighter. The supporting cast were great too and I found myself rooting for them to make it. By the end I was into this character. David Seddon's narration was great too, did a good job with the voices. Get this book.

This was a fun book. It had character development, new characters, and world building within the Karadron Society. It made me want to see more and given what is teased at the end we may get more. Can't wait for the eventual follow-up to this.

The Blood Pact are on Balhault and are after a defector. It’s up to Gaunt to protect him. The book is great and the reading is great.

After a bit of a hiatus, I’m back with Gaunt’s Ghosts and this book had me on edge. The book has the Ghosts go through the biggest meat grinder ever in their career. It’s one of the best.

Best Dark Angels book

I have a rocky relationship with the Dark Angels. Half the time they are noble knights and half the time they’re unlikable assholes who I want to lose. It really depends on the author. Gary Kloster has done one of the rarest things ever: he made a Dark Angels story compelling without the Fallen being a part of the story. The characters are very likable and fleshed out, the story is compelling, and I really want more stories about Lazarus. I actually finished reading the book before I finished listening to it because I was that compelled by it. The performance by John Banks is good as always. Definitely check this out.

Dated lore, but still a classic

It’s funny listening to this as a newbie who has listened to stories like Prospero Burns and Battle of the Fang. So many things have changed in Warhammer Lore since this book came out. Retcons have been made, but this story still holds up. What makes it work is that it’s a full on character piece rather than an action fest. Sure there is fighting, but it doesn’t override the story. Ironically enough it was this story that got me really interested in the Space Wolves. At least the cover of Ragnar charging across the snow did. But now that I’ve finally listened to it, I’m eager to hear the rest of the series.

For the longest time I heard this was the worst of the Primarch books. Honestly, while it is not the best, it isn’t the worst. Vulkan’s story has been told before, but here the story of how he truly made the Salamanders has been told. While it was mostly action, I still felt compelled to continue listening. I liked it, but others may not. It’s up to you to decide.

I know there are fans of the James Swallow Sisters of Battle books, but I've always love Danie Ware's take on them. She makes them feel like people who just happen to be Battle Nuns. The stories are entertaining as heck and while there is little plot, the characters and their dynamics make it work. Highly recommended.

For the longest time I heard mixed things about this run of Gotrek and Felix. But this book was actually pretty darn good. I was invested the whole way and felt it delivered well. I recommend it.

This book is a very important one. It is the introduction of the Skaven Grey Seer Thanquol and for many, including me, it is the introduction of the Skaven. It is epic and hilarious. While I have some problems with William King’s run, this is one of my favorites.
