That's some major plot holes...
Revisado: 12-28-17
I really enjoyed this series of books and this book did give an ending to the story.......but it was a messy, barely working ending.
This book seemed like half way through the story, the author decided he didn't want to write this series anymore and needed to write an ending. There are many story threads that are left hanging and details that went no where. Certain story points seemed to contradict past books but the author didn't seem to care. Characters' behaviors were all over the damn place and the reasoning behind it was thin at best, non existent at worst.
I did get an ending to the series, so at least there was resolution. But man, what a weak way to end a good story

On The Power of Vulnerability, Dr. Brown offers an invitation and a promise - that when we dare to drop the armor that protects us from feeling vulnerable, we open ourselves to the experiences that bring purpose and meaning to our lives. Here she dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and reveals that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage.

Fun and strange mashup of scifi and fantasy
Revisado: 06-28-16
What made the experience of listening to Forgotten Ages the most enjoyable?
The story is fun. A mix between fantasy, scifi, and steampunk, it is an enjoyable ride that keeps one invested in the likable and down-to-earth main characters. Descriptions of different countries and peoples are well developed and vivid, you can really picture this world.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I didn't really have a favorite character, they were all well-developed and sketched. You really did get a feel for each person in the book. Rias and Tikaya were a great couple. There was no use of miscommunication drama and not knowing if they liked each other. There was a base of mutual respect and admiration between the two that was refreshing and realistic.
Which scene was your favorite?
This collection had two books and a novella, so there were a lot of scenes. I can't think of a favorite but they were all well described. I could see the snowy north and deserted town in book 1, and the tropical island in book two. You really felt enveloped in these worlds.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed a couple of times but no extreme reactions. It was a great fun and breezy listen, made the commute enjoyable and kept my mind occupied with a fun world filled with many details and peoples. It was definitely an escape from the everyday and I would listen to it again.

When Hazel Nash was six years old, her father taught her: Mysteries need to be solved. He should know. Hazel's father is Jack Nash, the host of America's favorite conspiracy TV show, The House of Secrets. Even as a child, she loved hearing her dad's tall tales, especially the one about a leather book belonging to Benedict Arnold that was hidden in a corpse. Now, years later, Hazel wakes up in the hospital and remembers nothing, not even her own name. She's told she's been in a car accident that killed her father and injured her brother.

Confusing story that seems only half-developed
Revisado: 06-28-16
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
This book was okay. The story was uneven and not well developed. With a mix of flashbacks and present storylines, it felt like the reader is dropped into the middle of the story and must struggle to understand who is who and why they should care. The big reveal and the supposed driving force of the whole story was underwhelming. I actually didn't understand why it was such a big deal, what 'sins' had to be atoned for. The main character has some weird sort of amnesia that made no real sense but whatever. But the amnesia is supposed to tie the reader to the character to figure out what is going on. If confusion was the goal, they succeeded. Why the main character Hazel is who she is and does what she does was never really explained in any way that made sense.
What do you think your next listen will be?
This book kinda burned me out on mysteries right now so I'm probably going to read something scifi or fantasy.
Which character – as performed by Scott Brick and January LaVoy – was your favorite?
The performances were good. But it couldn't save crappy writing so none of the characters were my favorite. They were all half-developed and no real emotional connection was made to them. I didn't really care what happened to any of them. And the guy who was killing people, what? They explained who he was at the end and I still was left wondering why the heck he had any connection to the events, let alone driving them along in a way.
Did The House of Secrets inspire you to do anything?
Inspired me to not read any more Brad Meltzer books for awhile.
Any additional comments?
Skip this book. Narrators did a good job with what they had but the substance and story are not there.

Girl Genius definitely worth the time!
Revisado: 02-04-15
If you could sum up Agatha H and the Airship City in three words, what would they be?
Science, laughter, fun.
Who was your favorite character and why?
My favorite character would be Gilgamesh, I think. Just a good combination of young man with tons of brains and exasperation at the insane situations around him. Very fun.
What does Angela Dawe bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her performance makes the book I think. The story is so fun I would enjoy it in print as well I'm sure, but Angela Dawe's performance just brings it to life. Rarely have I enjoyed the performance as well as this one. Usually, the narration is just voicing the story. As long as the narration isn't horrible, the strength of the story will usually be enough for me to give a good review. But Angela Dawe performance is just fun. Her different voices for the numerous characters and the pitch perfect timing for the jokes and humour just made the story that much more wonderful. I definitely recommend her as a narrator and as soon as I'm done with this series, I will be looking for more books performed by her.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Yes, but I don't want to give anything away. But Agatha's closeness to her family and her fight to be reunited with them is involved. So a moment near the end did make me very sad. However, the story kept moving and soon I was swept up in fun and adventure again.

Mixed feelings on an okay story
Revisado: 02-04-15
Is there anything you would change about this book?
It was a middle of the road book. No great twists and turns, no big surprises. You kinda guessed who did what and were just waiting to hear why.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
The ending was kinda meh. There were supposedly two mysteries, solve one for that person and they will help solve the next. However, neither mystery was an edge of the seat mystery so it didn't really grasp you tightly at all. More just a mild curiosity to hear how it all ended.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator was good. I had no problems with the delivery of a just okay story. I listened to the end and I didn't hate it but as I write this review, I'm having trouble remembering details of the story and that kinda speaks for itself.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No, not exciting enough or original enough to be worth the ticket price. Let alone the price of popcorn.

Interesting take on the superhero/villian world
Revisado: 02-04-15
Would you listen to Steelheart again? Why?
I don't think I would listen to Steelheart again. While I enjoyed the book and performance and it kept me interested, it wasn't quite good enough to make me want to listen to it another time.
What did you like best about this story?
It was a new twist on the superhero power genre. The heroes in this story didn't have powers, they just had a desire to fight against the bad guys who did have powers. And that was refreshing. The way the world was setup with multiple powers and weaknesses was good as well because it had a detective type element to the story while they were searching to find the bad guys' weaknesses.
What about MacLeod Andrews’s performance did you like?
It was a good performance. The main character's voice sounded exactly the right age, that age between child and adult. The narrator did a good job in bringing a specific voice to each character that didn't distract or take away from the story at all.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
It made me laugh once or twice but it wasn't a book filled with humour. The story was good and solid and I enjoyed the ride. It's a solid choice for entertainment. You will have a good time but it's just not quite good enough to make it a favorite.

Mad science+Laughter+Romance equals awesomeness!
Revisado: 02-04-15
Would you listen to Agatha H. and the Clockwork Princess again? Why?
Yes, the narrator Angela Dawe does an amazing job. There are so many characters in this book and yet every one has a distinct voice and feel to them that doesn't feel forced in any way. Just love this narrator's performance. But the book itself is also great. There's adventure and science all mixed with much laughter. It makes my commute to work something I look forward to.
What other book might you compare Agatha H. and the Clockwork Princess to and why?
I don't really know. I can only really compare it to the first book I guess.
Which character – as performed by Angela Dawe – was your favorite?
I love them all but I really love the way she voices the jagermonsters. Makes me laugh all the time. The combination of beast, humour, perviness is just great and her accent just brings it to life.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laughter all the way. It's not often I laugh out loud to books but I definitely did with this one. It takes the mad science and mixes it with the Victorian feel and just has fun with it. It has a lighthearted feel to it that just speaks of a good time. But the story is complex enough that you are kept interested and wondering when the questions will be answered and the secrets revealed.

Would you consider the audio edition of Neverwhere [Adaptation] to be better than the print version?
No, because the written will always have more description and detail and the book was great to begin with.
What did you like best about this story?
The performances were awesome. Sound effects, different voices for different characters and great actors for those voices. Respected the story.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and one that I will probably listen to again. It is a great performance.

At the end, you went 'what?'
Revisado: 11-29-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Not really, this book had no point. The mystery wasn't really a mystery and didn't ever really tie into the story in a real way.
What was most disappointing about Daniel Pembrey’s story?
It didn't make sense. The people after him and the reason why he lost his memory and why they were all trying to get the candidate had no big payoff, no explanation that mattered. The end of the story was just bleh.
Was The Candidate worth the listening time?
Not really, the performance was fine and it passed the time but the story not worth it.
