Epic fantasy with a funny twist

I took a chance on this book based on recommendations and couldn't be happier! I liked the characters, the story, the world, and the humor. Where do the grey characters in fairy tales go? Who looks after them? How do assassins, thieves, and spies learn their trade? How does the grey magic impact the world and who could possibly be strong enough to rule them without losing their mind? Most importantly though, how could they possibly do it alone? I can't wait for more answers and more questions from the world of Between!

Fantastic! Exactly how all audiobooks should be done

Freaking Amazing!! Dark and funny with a good dose of naughty scenes are about a 650,000 on the Scoville scale. Way too hot for those who like clean romance but an increased pulse for those who like a bit of smut on the side of their romance. The voice actors are incredibly talented. They make the story come alive in your mind! I would listen to anything these two narrated. Watch your triggers but know that gray characters are gray for a reason and nothing is there just to hurt the reader. Except, maybe, the cookies and cream, but it's funny so you'll forgive them, I promise!

So, the constant bombs to save this supposedly bad a*s girl, is a little too much. The absolute worst though, is the love story. I do not even want the 2 MCs to end up together anymore. If Brexley were a friend of mine and she said that there were at least 2 hot dudes with solid potential to be awesome and a 3rd who keeps telling her that he doesn't want her, and treats her like crap consistently, I would tell her to BELIEVE HIM and DIP. He can block her out of his head so if I were her, I would spend all of my energy blocking him and moving on. Everyone is practically sending telegrams at this point to tell her that dude just isn't that into her. Then, finding out he's got a chick and a kid, freaking shocker - insert eye-roll. I hoped that when she turned her best friend/forever crush down on being his bit on the side, she'd start catching on that Warwick is just as toxic as the first guy. Both have told her in their actions and to her face that she's not important to them. In fact, both get with multiple partners (Warwick literally and in front of her) but get jealous of anyone showing interest in her. Both have committed to other relationships but want to keep her on the side and in the dark. These are deal breakers! I say, dump all of their baggage on the curb, set it on fire, do a dance, and find the horse guy to have happy horse babies with. Meanwhile, these 2 jerks can sit around miserable and contemplating why they suck while dying alone because that's very obviously what they want. They want to make bad decisions, blame circumstances that are potentially difficult but completely in their control, AND THEN play martyr to their tortured souls. Freaking spare me.

Arrr me mateys, here there be bad narration

I honestly don't know if this book is good. I like spice and it might have that but it turns out that the male narrator decided that a mordernish Cockney accent means sounding like a more evil Black Beard sailingthe seven seas.

I tried and failed to listen to this book 3 times because the male narrator is so distractingly horrible, I can't follow along. Every interaction that's supposed to be spicy just comes out creepy and icky. You can't imagine why the main character would be attracted to any of them, let alone, all of them.

Don't spend a credit on this unless you've always wanted to make out with Black Bart while he growls unintelligible threats and emphasizes words in the wrong places. If that IS your bag though, this one is for you!

Story good but male narrator not so much

I enjoyed this story, however, I wish they had only used the female narrator for the book. Her deep voice is far better than the falsetto of the male narrator. I cringed when he would speak Thea's parts.

Don't read if you actually like Romance

So, I really disliked this book. The end is the actual worst. It made me feel let down and angry at everyone involved except for Ben. He was the only honest and loyal person in the entire story and he gets no true resolution. We go right back to the two who started the entire mess because they couldn't be honest with each other. This book made me feel like love doesn't actually work out for the people who deserve it. Pass it off as "Grace" that these people get the happily ever after all you want but it's a cop out.

Fred is always the best!!

I loved this one! I am always excited to see a new Fred come out and hope for many more. I saw a comment about HBO making Fred into a TV series, but could I suggest good ol' Prime take a stab at it? sine it's on Audible, seems like a good idea winky wink

Fat girls, this will make you cry

This book will do some things to your heart. If you grabbed this thinking, "Fat girl finds love." and stick to just that, it's fabulous. Very Fred the Vampire Accountant. Which I firmly believe is a literary masterpiece.

The other option, the one that got me, is it could leave you a blubbering mess. My fellow fat girls, there are parts that could hurt, be warned. Skinny girls, take notice, this is what we go through every single day, every single meal, and every single relationship. No joke, no hyperbole.

Some triggers: fat phobia, restrictive dieting, body insecurity, eating judgement, mother imposed restricted caloric intake at a young age, not believing your deserving of happiness, success or love because of your size.

I literally bawled all the way through chapters 11 to 13. I figured it out the second he said it to her. If faced with that devil's choice, I would have let the council kill me rather than be trapped in my body that I hate for eternity. There's no Tristan for most of us, no one to say we're beautiful, and no one to see beyond our bodies.

For most, it will be a fantastic story of a strong, talented, amazing woman living her best life regardless of the circumstances. It will be encouraging to see Lilly fight her demons and allow love in because, at the core, that is what the book is about. If you've made peace with yourself, you will love it. If you haven't or simply can't, like me, just be prepared from the start.

Due to this, the rest of the story, like the, incredibly wealthy, underwear model level, hot guy who's obsessed with her protection and self worth felt like some major pandering. It felt very, " Let people in and good things can happen." blah, blah, blah. That's not realistic and made it so I couldn't suspend my disbelief to enjoy it as much as a normal person would.

I love you and don't want you to feel these feels if you're not ready. I wish someone had told me.
