Historia
Grinding, bloody, and ultimately decisive, the Petersburg Campaign was the Civil War's longest and among its most complex. Ulysses S. Grant and Robert E. Lee squared off for more than nine months in their struggle for Petersburg, the key to the Confederate capital at Richmond. Featuring some of the war's most notorious battles, the campaign played out against a backdrop of political drama and crucial fighting elsewhere, with massive costs for soldiers and civilians alike.

Very good very important

Get ready for a tome! If you can finish it, you will have a very good picture of the Bolshevik Revolution. The basic analogy of the Bolsheviks being a non “religious” millenarian movement was something I had never entertained. I heartily recommend but maybe also be reading something light so you can occasionally take a break from the reading.

Historia
The defeat of South Vietnam was arguably America's worst foreign policy disaster of the twentieth century. Yet a complete understanding of the endgame—from the January 27, 1973 signing of the Paris Peace Accords to South Vietnam's surrender on April 30, 1975—has eluded us. Black April addresses that deficit.

OUTSTANDING AND NEEDED!
Revisado: 10-05-23
Listening to this book confirmed everything I was told by my Dad (2 tours in Vietnam, Marine Officer). It turns the stomach to hear how the Dem Congress allowed South Vietnam to collapse. While what Congress did or more accurately did not do turns the stomach it does not detract from the bravery the South Vietnamese exhibited in a hopeless contest with a foe who was being supplied with ANYTHING and more that they needed. ONLY the South Vietnamese were required to abide by the sham Paris "peace accords" again thanks to a feckless US Congress. The Dems should certainly be proud of their "accomplishments" in the 70s; caused the fall of South Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Iran, Nicaragua and nearly El Salvador. America showed itself to be an "ally" in name only. READ or LISTEN to this well written and tragic book.

Historia
On February 1, 1861, delegates at the Texas Secession Convention elected to leave the Union. The people of Texas supported the actions of the convention in a statewide referendum, paving the way for the state to secede and to officially become the seventh state in the Confederacy. Soon the Texans found themselves engaged in a bloody and prolonged civil war against their northern brethren. During the curse of this war, the lives of thousands of Texans, both young and old, were changed forever.

Historia
In December 1943, with the rising realization that the Allies are planning to invade Fortress Europe, Field Marshal Erwin Rommel is assigned the title of General Inspector for the Atlantic Wall. His mission is to assess their readiness. His superior, theater commander, crusty old Field Marshal Gerd von Rundstedt, who had led the Reich to victory in the early years of the war, is now fed up with the whole Nazi regime. He lives comfortably in a plush villa in a quiet Paris suburb, waiting for the inevitable Allied invasion that will bring about their final defeat.

Desperately needed a good editing.
Revisado: 04-06-22
I definitely enjoyed this book! I wish an editor had tightened it up as many other reviews have mentioned. There were so many repeat lines it was sometimes distracting. But again, it was fantastic at bringing to life the day to day lives of the Germans and comparing/contrasting how inefficient the German command structure was as compared to the Allies. One quickly realizes that neither Rommel or von Rundstedt stood much of a chance against the Allied invasion.

Historia
After Germany's defeat in World War II, Europe lay in tatters. Millions of refugees were dispersed across the continent. Food and fuel were scarce. Britain was bankrupt while Germany had been reduced to rubble. In July 1945, Harry Truman, Winston Churchill, and Joseph Stalin gathered in a quiet suburb of Berlin to negotiate a lasting peace - a peace that would finally put an end to the conflagration that had started in 1914, a peace under which Europe could be rebuilt.

Not much about the actual conference
Revisado: 04-06-22
This was an odd book in that it basically felt like a book entirely on the background of the Potsdam Conference rather than a discussion of the actual conference, the positions of the three powers, arguments, compromises etc. I didn't really feel like I learned much about the actual conference though I enjoyed the description of the atmosphere at the conference.

Historia
The definitive biography of Herbert Hoover, one of the most remarkable Americans of the 20th century - a revisionist account that will forever change the way Americans understand the man, his presidency, and his battle against the Great Depression. A poor orphan who built a fortune, a great humanitarian, a president elected in a landslide and then routed in the next election, arguably the father of both New Deal liberalism and modern conservatism - Herbert Hoover is also one of our least understood presidents.

OUTSTANDING

If you have any interest in truly understanding one of America’s least appreciated Presidents then this book is perfect! I suspect I will listen to this book several times as it is so full of interesting nuances and amazing (and sadly forgotten) facts.
