Approachable And Informative!
Revisado: 05-04-25
What a beautiful listen! Making something like this accessible to the general public (with a plus account) is so amazing. Wonderful resources, easy to listen to and understand, interesting and informative. Listen to the end for a little Easter egg on how to get your free survival kit, which as of the date I’m writing this, is still available and 100% no charge. I’m so happy I found this!

Excellent Narration!
Revisado: 04-03-25
There’s something beautiful about the combination of splatter western, alternate dimension purgatory style lore, witches and paranormal entities that just really WORKS. The narration is amazing, I’d expect nothing less from JWC. He’s a notch above the rest and it’s just so respectable for an author to narrate their own work! The story itself gets a little twisty-turny and maybe a little lost in itself but it wraps up perfectly.

Historia
With ailing family to support, Evie Sage's employment status isn't just important, it's vital. So when a mishap with Rennedawn's most infamous Villain results in a job offer—naturally, she says yes. No job is perfect, of course, but even less so when you develop a teeny crush on your terrifying, temperamental, and undeniably hot boss. Don't find evil so attractive, Evie. But just when she's getting used to severed heads suspended from the ceiling and the odd squish of an errant eyeball beneath her heel, Evie suspects this dungeon has a huge rat . . . and not just the literal kind.

Horrible Narration/Vapid Nonsense
Revisado: 05-06-24
The narrator sounds like a cheap knockoff of Siri. The story HAD to of been written by a pre-pubescent girl that just had her first experience at a renaissance fair. I swear the cover to this book should have one of those cheesy romance novel pictures with a dark-haired Fabio on the front, absolutely ridiculous. I’ve read better fantasy novels in middle school! I prefer my female characters to be strong and intelligent, basically the opposite of this clumsy dimwit that follows around an evil master BeCaUsE hE’s HoT with a bunch of blushing emojis to follow. Just asinine nonsense. So boring and drab. Returning this title which I very RARELY do.

Historia
Deftly written and utterly addictive, this Western literary horror debut will find a home with fans of authors like Joe Hill, Cormac McCarthy, and Anne Rice. One night in 1980, a man becomes a monster. Haunted by his past, Travis Stillwell spends his nights searching out women in West Texas honky-tonks. What he does with them doesn't make him proud, just quiets the demons for a little while. But after Travis crosses paths one night with a mysterious pale-skinned girl, he wakes weak and bloodied.

Great Atmosphere
Revisado: 04-24-24
I enjoyed the atmosphere the author depicted, especially being so close to home. And while I can appreciate a different take on the traditional vampire lore, I found it to be a rather weak and uninteresting reimagining of it. The narrator did a really great job giving life to the different characters. I don’t think I’ve ever hated a character as much as I hated Rue. I feel like we aren’t supposed to catch on that she r*apes and destroys the life of a male character, because she’s female I feel like she’s supposed to get a pass. She’s the ultimate clingy girl next door to the boy that isn’t interested, but she practices kissing him in her closet where she keeps a shrine of his chewed bubble gum. Just ridiculous. The writing in general felt juvenile, if I had a dime for every time the word “breast” was used I’d be able to buy myself a pretty nice meal, dessert included. Really by the last hour or two I just wanted everybody to die so I could get through it already. Even the characters I kinda liked. Seeds of storyline were planted that were watered and then walked away from. We don’t see much of it grow into anything at all. Characters and backstories that seem pointless. You get the picture. All the elements were there, cowboys and vampires generally make me really happy, but this just wasn’t executed in a way that was pleasing at all.

The Narration Is Excellent
Revisado: 02-11-24
I absolutely loved the performance of the narrator. The wide range of voices covering so many people and still managing to make each unique is spectacular. The story itself had me in its clutches the whole way, it was very hard to stop listening once I got started. There are things I’m left questioning, and climactic events that should’ve happened that just sort of..fizzled out. Plot points that really served nothing for the narrative, but overall I really enjoyed this adventure. The first half was especially wonderful.

Historia
Meet Otto and Cecil. Two brothers who grew up privileged in the Welsh countryside. They enjoyed watching nature shows, playing with their pet pony, impersonating their Grandfather…and killing the help. Murder is the family business after all. Downton Abbey, this is not. However, it’s not so easy to continue the family legacy with the constant stream of threats and distractions seemingly leaping from the hedgerow.

Great Narration…the rest not so much
Revisado: 01-02-24
This was an absolutely exhausting listen. A very weird twisted take on child abuse, toxic masculinity and privilege. The concept itself is brilliant, I thought for sure I’d find this among my favorites from Chuck Palahniuk, but I’m left thoroughly disappointed. The narrator did a beautiful job, aside from 4 separate occasions he was forced to recite a letter written in binary code, spouting zeros and ones for two minutes each time. It felt like a torture experiment.
Aside from a few acidic tastes here and there of Project Mayhem, I’d of never guessed that this was done by the same author as Invisible Monsters and Diary.

Tremendous Voice Work
Revisado: 05-05-22
The reader of this book did a fabulous job portraying various members of the family without making it seem cheesy or overdone. Bravo! The story is scary and vivid, explained in great detail. It makes me sad to learn that the author considers this to be a work of fiction, but it’s still a really enjoyable listen regardless of what actually happened in the house. The lousy parents in this work and how they were represented reinstalled my faith that I will BELIEVE my child if she ever tells me something strange is going on.

Horrible Narration
Revisado: 04-29-22
This is so poorly narrated that it’s extremely hard to listen to. Is it done through a computer? There is a bit of worthwhile content here, but a lot of it is a little dated. You’ll never want to hear the word “motif” ever ever ever again. I would save a credit and gather information from reputable sources available for free online.
