Revisado: 09-24-24
AI narration is horrible. It never does the stories justice. Author should read their own books in lieu of AI narration.

Not my usual genre but it was free and suggested by Audible - I really liked it. To me, the narrator was perfect for this unique and interesting story. Worth the two hours...and did I mention it is free? Looking for more from this Aurthor now!

Historia
No one knows your darkness like your own Shadow. Nothing has been normal for Teddy, not since discovering the harsh identity of the monster he had been living with his whole life - his own father. Teddy and his mother leave that behind to start over in a small Indiana township. But as Teddy begins to learn of humanity's monsters, he unveils an otherworldly evil he calls "The Shadow". The Shadow tests Teddy's vulnerability and growing sense of isolation, poisoning his mind and conjuring a vile killer-in-the-making.

Decent story but...
Revisado: 01-24-23
So I don't normally write reviews but, the Shadow's whispering conversations with Teddy were long and intricate at times which made it made it super hard for me to continue listening but I did push through. Then, if you have read the Bill Hodges series and/or watched the remake of the movie IT by Stephen King, here's a heads up... In the Bill Hodges series, if you've read just one of the books in the series you should pick up on which protagonist in Take Your Turn, Teddy the narrator seems to be trying to channel Holly Gibney into - it's cringe worthy to me as I LOVE the Holly Gibney character and hated hearting the narrator's horrible attempt at (copying) establishing this character. In the IT remake, in the first scene where Pennywise is in the gutter, he and Georgie are talking about popcorn...POP, POP, POP - that phrase is spoken by a Clown is in this book. I listened to the entire book, as I used a credit to purchase it, but I was truly put off by the whispering Shadow and the likeness of Stephen King characters integrated into this book. Had the narrator established his own character instead of borrowing Holly's and had the writer left the POP - POP - POP phrase out of the book I may have enjoyed it a bit more... but, maybe not. Good Luck Reader - Maybe you will take more away from this book than I did.

~Possible Triggers~
Revisado: 10-20-22
Child deaths, and...
Soft Porn with a plot - It's interesting but... Soft Porn... Others may say this is a book that has "Adult Content" or "Sexual Content" and we would all come to the same conclusion, right? Detailed sexual encounters before and after the deaths of the children. Intimacy is a strange thing - it can absolutely capture your soul and make you do crazy things...even murder.
The plot was unusual but I liked it. If you're looking for a twist that leaves you wondering; well, this is it. I love a book that I think about well after I've heard the last words. Remembering character names is always a sign to me that I really did enjoy the book. Both narrators were spot on with their performances because the writer didn't overdo characters they portrayed. I'd say listen to it. Let me know what you think...Enjoy/Hate - you won't know if you don't give it try.

Revisado: 05-17-22
I read this book 15 yes ago and I loved It!! I was so excited to see it on Audible but that excitement fell the first few times the music kicked in... Narration is spot on but completely overshadowed randomly by...in MY opinion... horrible music. Just letting you all know before you spend a credit...it's bad.

THIS IS MY OPINION
Revisado: 04-12-21
This poor narrator...
Hempel has not mastered the voice(s) or tone(s) for this type of book. He sounds terrible as an old man. Sub-par narration takes away from the experience of an AudioBook story...bad narration can leave good stories
flat and boring and more often than not the author and/or editor are blamed for the poor narration. Otherwise I enjoyed Ambrose Ibsen's Malefic.
