Tenaciousness in tracing roots

A complex story that held my interest. It was a little tricky, bouncing back-and-forth between different times with different characters, but well worth it.

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

There was also nothing spared. I was surprised at the intimate details end it felt a great affinity for both Harry and Meghan. it was very well written, and very well narrated. I loved the use of the terms of affection for his grandmother and his great grandmother. I think I would feel the same way about The “darling boy” as they seemed to. I wish Harry and his family all the best!

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

A wonderful complex story! Would have preferred an nonintellectual dog. I have very mixed emotions about 630, on the one hand I would love that a dog could be so sensitive and have such articulate thoughts, on the other hand I don’t know any dogs like that. Otherwise, it was totally engaging and empowering and right on as to the way women were perceived then and now, unfortunately.

Historia
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

One of the things that made this and especially enjoyable listen was the narrator. She was terrific!! And I loved her singing. The story is quirky, the characters lovable and it is an over-all enjoyable read!

Written as an open letter to Osama bin Laden from a distraught woman whose husband and son were killed in a massive suicide bombing, Incendiary was published in the UK on July 7, 2005 - eerily, the day of the London underground bombings. It went on to win the 2006 Somerset Maugham Award; was shortlisted for the 2006 Commonwealth Writers’ Prize; won the United States’ Book-of-the-Month Club’s First Fiction Award; and won the Prix Special du Jury at the French Prix des Lecteurs 2007.

A perfect title!
Revisado: 09-27-17
I fell in love with Cleave's writing when listening to "Everyone Brave is Forgiven". It was an "MP3 & available now" book from my public library. So it was serendipity rather than choice. I have been recommending it to all my reader friends. "Incendiary" is not for the faint-of-heart, you have to be as forgiving and secure as the teller of the tale. Cleave's writing is amazing! This open letter to Osama is full of little details of everyday life, pain, humor, and love in the midst of the horror of terrorism and trauma. Tracy-Ann Oberman should get more than 5 stars for her remarkable narration. She made the book come alive. Her rapid and gifted switch from character to character floored me!

Historia
In this award-winning Audible Studios production, Trevor Noah tells his wild coming-of-age tale during the twilight of apartheid in South Africa. It’s a story that begins with his mother throwing him from a moving van to save him from a potentially fatal dispute with gangsters, then follows the budding comedian’s path to self-discovery through episodes both poignant and comical.

An amazing story!
Revisado: 11-18-16
I admired Trevor Noah because of the daily show. His memoir is one of the best books i have listened to in my lifetime! It's practically every word my esteem for Trevor grew. It is amazing that he took so much positive from a life with numerous obstacles. His insight into South African culture, racism, misogyny, friendships blew me away! I truly appreciated his description of his relationship with his mother. She is truly a remarkable woman! I wish I could write a review that truly complimented Trevor Noah's writing! I think everyone should read this book!! And listen to it!!

Historia
Set in the 1870s, the same period as Wharton's The Age of Innocence, The Buccaneers is about five wealthy American girls denied entry into New York Society because their parents' money is too new. At the suggestion of their clever governess, the girls sail to London, where they marry lords, earls, and dukes who find their beauty charming—and their wealth extremely useful.

A rare happy ending of sorts
Revisado: 10-24-16
I love Edith Wharton's writing but her stories often end sadly, especially for the women. This one ends abruptly because she died before finishing it. Fortunately, she mapped out the whole story before she died. The outline for the story ends happily for the main protagonist! The writing and the realistic depiction of society in both the United States and Great Britain is perfection!

Historia
John Irving returns to the themes that established him as one of our most admired and beloved authors in this absorbing novel of fate and memory. As we grow older - most of all, in what we remember and what we dream - we live in the past. Sometimes we live more vividly in the past than in the present. As an older man, Juan Diego will take a trip to the Philippines, but what travels with him are his dreams and memories; he is most alive in his childhood and early adolescence in Mexico.

Amos Decker's life changed forever - twice. The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to go pro. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field for good and left him with an improbable side effect - he can never forget anything.

One narrator too many
Revisado: 06-03-16
Would you try another book from David Baldacci and/or Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ?
Yes for the author and either narrator, but no for both narrators together. This is a production issue. I think it is usually a bad idea to have more than one narrator and my thinking was supported by this production.
What other book might you compare Memory Man to and why?
The girl with the dragon tattoo and others by Stieg Larson. Violence and complexity of plot.
Would you be willing to try another one of Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy ’s performances?
Again, either one is fine.
Did Memory Man inspire you to do anything?
Read a less violent novel.

Historia
The year is 1861. The American Civil War has just begun, and London arms dealer Daniel Alberton is becoming a very wealthy man. His quiet dinner party seems remote indeed from the passions rending America. Yet investigator William Monk and his bride, Hester, sense growing tensions and barely concealed violence.

An all time low!
Revisado: 02-26-16
I was concerned when I listened to the sample and heard the narration. The other books in the series that I have listened to through Audible were narrated by Divina Porter. I think she could make the most ridiculous book sound like good to really good literature. Simon Jones narration of slaves of obsession makes the whole thing seem like a parody. If the book were any longer then five hours I would have sacrificed my credit to read the book rather than listen to it. But since it is so short I guess I can stand to listen to it for a little while longer. I imagine Simon Jones could do a good narration but he certainly hasn't done it with this book! And because it is narration it makes the story even less believable. Maybe that's why Divina Porter chose not to be the narrator for this book. Anyway I Think it is awful though I am on the number 12 because I've become obsessed about finishing the monk series. Question about every detail questions about capital find a trace America
