Escaping the war was easy until they killed his friend. Now war is all they'll know. When Frank Sherman was one month into college, the Twin Towers fell. He joined the Army the next day. Narration and story line disappointing
Revisado: 12-04-24
I was excited to listen to the AI generated narration but was incredibly disappointed. The narration was bland at best, monotone and without typical human emotion in the voice. The story line, plot and characters started off okay but rapidly declined. Between the horrible narration and story, I couldn’t finish the book. Grateful it was free.

Could have been a good book
Revisado: 09-16-24
So disappointing. The story line was intriguing but the narrator was terrible. One of the worst I’ve ever listened to on Audible. The writing was fair at best. The only reason I listened to the book is because I paid for the book.

Suspenseful but Poor Narration
Revisado: 09-18-23
Story line was suspenseful and intriguing. Narrator was stiff. Hearing him say policeman as 2 separate words was grating. There were numerous other examples that I can’t recall. He seemed to relax as the story progresses but still seemed to be reading the lines. Overall, interesting enough plot to try another book by same author.

Glad It Was Free
Revisado: 07-16-23
The story started out interesting and went downhill from there. Seemed like it was written by a high school student. Narration was poor. I will admit there was an unexpected twist at the end but those hours listening I can never get back.

Great Short Story
Revisado: 07-14-23
Really enjoyed the story but I think the author could have developed the characters and plot for a full length book. Narrator is perfect!

The Worst Audible Book Ever
Revisado: 05-07-23
The author made a poor attempt at writing a crime novel with intrigue and mystery but ended up with with a book full of slapstick middle school sentences. The narrator added to the satirical feeling of the book. However, I don’t think that was the authors intent. I attempted to rate this book midway through the 2nd chapter but it would let me so I kept it playing until the end. Thank goodness it was free from Audible.

Storyline line needs a lot of work
Revisado: 01-26-23
It was very interesting in the beginning but then it fell apart. It was too short to develop the characters and plot. Had to fill in the story & connect the dots to make sense of story. I think it has the "bones" to be a really suspenseful story, but it needs work. And the narrators were terrible.

Historia
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Dull
Revisado: 06-04-22
This was a very superficial overview of a killer, but could have been so much more. It was essentially a dull podcast of a series of horrific murders, rape & attacks. Unfortunately, the reader added nothing to the story. His voice had an almost sing-song quality to his narration. I'm sure it would be perfectly suitable for a different style of fiction, but not for this subject. I was disappointed that the author didn't do more research into his childhood. there were undoubtedly more signs of his pathological behavior as a child. In addition, the church's involvement & key reason for the light sentence in his first brutal attack was glossed over.
