Historia
The Hypnotist's Love Story is about the mild craziness that lurks behind the facades we present to the world, especially when it comes to love. Ellen O'Farrell is an expert when it comes to human frailties. She's a hypnotherapist who helps her clients deal with everything from addictions to life-long phobias. So when she falls in love with a man who is being stalked by his ex-girlfriend she's more intrigued than frightened.

Typical Liane Moriarty
Revisado: 04-02-24
A typical Liane Moriarty book.
This time she focuses on two women: Ellen “the hypnotist” and Saskia “the stalker”.
I quite like the story until the end, where the author revealed the assholes. Saskia made my blood boil the whole book. Yeah, she had a tragic back story, but she is still a psychopath.
Patrick is such an asshole too. I kept waiting for Ellen to finally realise that and leave him - and nothing. The author sprinkled little moments of him being an inattentive jerk who only cares about what he wants - all for nothing. It’s like she had a completely different ending in mind when she started writing the book, but by the end of it she changed her mind.
Nah.
I will still be reading more of her books, but this one is as not the best. (Not the worst either - that honour goes to “Three wishes” )

Historia
Society believes the worst of Justin Alastair, the notorious Duke of Avon. When he encounters a young boy, Léon, who is running from his abusive brother, Avon employs the boy as his page, parading him around parties and other society events in full view of his bitter rival, the Comte de Saint-Vire. But the truth is soon uncovered: Léon is a girl named Léonie and is actually the legitimate child of the Comte and his wife. While Avon is intent on his plan to reveal the Comte’s duplicity and ruin him, he is charmed by Léonie’s kindness, falls in love, and becomes a changed man.

Not cute. Huge age gap, romance rooted in almost grooming
Revisado: 12-25-23
If it were not for the… um… grooming. Seriously. The Duke of Avon spends the whole book referring to Leony as “my child” “infant” and “babe”, treats her as such, takes on the role of her guardian, teaches her how to behave… And she does behave like a child, of about 10 years old (although she is 19, so I suspect she might have some sort of mental disability)… and we are supposed to do ship them? To root for their love?
Ew, no. No no no no.

Historia
There’s a literary niche for all tastes including those who think that either Agatha Christie wasn’t funny enough or that PG Wodehouse didn’t feature anywhere near as many baffling murders as he could have. The Case of the Canterfell Codicil is a classic, cozy, locked-room mystery written in the style of an homage to PG Wodehouse.

A thoroughly enjoyable book!!
The narrator was excellent. The characters - funny, very much in style of PG Woodhouse.
I enjoyed it very much. Will certainly read the next book from this author.

Glamour, danger, liberation: in a Mad Men–era of commercial flight, Pan Am World Airways attracted the kind of young woman who wanted out, and wanted up. Required to have a college education, speak two languages, and possess the political savvy of a Foreign Service officer, a jet-age stewardess serving on iconic Pan Am between 1966 and 1975 also had to be between 5′3" and 5′9", between 105 and 140 pounds, and under 26 years of age at the time of hire.

Wish it were longer
Revisado: 12-07-23
I wish the book were longer, featuring more stories from at least two other women. The story is tremendously interesting, and feels way too short.
I enjoyed it very much.

Again. She did it again.
Revisado: 10-21-23
I honestly can’t recall the last time I had so many emotions about a book. It made me giggle, squeal, make weird faces while in public, it made me discuss the various plot twists with my cat (because she won’t judge me), it made me call my mother randomly in order to communicate my emotions (because she likes Strike as much as I do).
If I had the physical book - I’d hug it.
Terrific book. Excellent mystery. Gripping thriller.
J.K. Rowling once again proves that she is one of the best writers, probably ever. Truly a masterful work.

Historia
This short, opinionated audiobook addresses the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, which argues that the language we speak shapes the way we perceive the world. Linguist John McWhorter argues that while this idea is mesmerizing, it is plainly wrong. It is language that reflects culture and worldview, not the other way around.

As a russian let me tell you..
Revisado: 09-30-21
Синий и голубой ("siniy" and "goluboi") are different colours! And the fact that the author of this book keeps returning to these words and mentioning them in the context of "the russians see the sky and blueberries as two different colours- how wacky!" - is mind-boggling! They ARE different colours. They are as different as red and pink, and yellow and orange. You don't call pink colour "light red".

She did it again!
Revisado: 09-30-21
Loved it. Liane Moriarty didn't disappoint, as usual. I read many of her books before, but the last one - "9 perfect strangers" - I disliked and DNF'd, and I was hesitant to read another one of her books.
She is a master of writing realisting characters, family drama, and weaving mystery.
Some bits in the ending I was able to guess, but I wouldn't call it predictable.
Loved this book. And now we wait for the next one...

Will be returning.
Revisado: 06-29-21
I like Michelle Buteau, I like her standup... but this book... She is just not a good narrator. She forgets that she is not in front of a crowd. She shouts A LOT - stuff like "hell naw" and "yess queen" - VERY LOUDLY. She clearly forgot that she's supposed to be reading a story for one person listening, and not a crowd at a bar.
As for the story itself - it's not particularly interesting, I knew most of it from her stand up. It's clear that this book is a cash-grab. She should have waited 10 years before releasing an autobiography, when she'd have more to say.
I will be returning this one.
