Historia
CELEBRATING MORE THAN 300 CONSECUTIVE WEEKS ATOP THE DOCTORS & MEDICINE HUMOR BESTSELLER CHARTS! In 1976, Paul Waymack began chronicling his experience as a third-year medical student. For the next 20 years, he kept a journal filled with crazy stories of unusual patients, unforgettable encounters, and international espionage. Some of them, he’s the first to admit, seem unbelievable. Chasing a naked patient around the ER parking lot in the middle of the night . . . Constructing a horse sling for a 700-pound patient . . . Treating a patient who swallowed a cigarette lighter . . . Serving as...

The stories were fun
Revisado: 03-07-25
the stories were fun, but the virtual voice made this book almost unreadable. The voice does not have the nuance needed for a humor book. Virtual voice would also mispronounce words, often the same word would be pronounced differently in the span of a paragraph. The voice would also take very odd pauses, it was not enjoyable to listen to.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Hard to get through
Revisado: 12-07-24
Started reading this book when it first came out, and had a hard time getting into it, so I gave up. Decided to give it another shot with the movie coming out. This book was so hard to get through, it's a few books jammed into one, and none of the stories actually get resolved. Just because it has familiar characters doesn't mean it's a complete tale. What a waste of time.

Historia
Behind the tall, foreboding gates of a commune in Brazil, Daniella Mestyanek Young was raised in the religious cult The Children of God, also known as The Family, as the daughter of high-ranking members. Her great-grandmother donated land for one of The Family’s first communes in Texas. Her mother, at thirteen, was forced to marry the leader and served as his secretary for many years. Beholden to The Family’s strict rules, Daniella suffers physical, emotional, and sexual abuse—masked as godly discipline and divine love—and is forbidden from getting a traditional education.

An incredibly resilient story
Revisado: 10-07-24
This was a great book about survival and resilience. It's amazing that a 6 year old child knew that they way they were being raised was wrong.

Historia
Dame Sue Black is an internationally renowned forensic anthropologist and human anatomist. She has lived her life eye to eye with the Grim Reaper, and she writes vividly about it in this book, which is part primer on the basics of identifying human remains, part frank memoir of a woman whose first paying job as a schoolgirl was to apprentice in a butcher shop, and part no-nonsense but deeply humane introduction to the reality of death in our lives. It is a treat for CSI junkies, murder mystery and thriller fans, and anyone seeking a clear-eyed guide to a subject that touches us all.

Interesting Stories
Revisado: 08-04-24
The stories are interesting, however the performance is bad. Sounds like she's an AI generated voice reading the book. Some of the authors opinions come off as judgemental when it comes to how some people donate their bodies. if it isn't to an anatomy lab, it's the wrong way.

Historia
In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

A must read for medical laboratory professionals.
Revisado: 09-21-18
A stunning story of how not to run a healthcare device company. Anyone in the laboratory medicine field need to read this book.
