Historia
Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

INSTANT FAVORITE
Revisado: 03-14-25
I do not usually read fiction but The Midnight Library was recommended to me by an Audible customer service rep and I am so glad I gave it a chance. It instantly became one of my top 10 favorite books of all time. I could not stop listening, every free second I had I was pressing play.
I will be honest, the beginning was a little weird, slow, and confusing but stick with it, it is worth it. The message really hit me deep. It made me reflect on my own regrets and even pushed me to finally start doing the things I have been putting off instead of dwelling on the past.
Beyond that, the concept of the book is so unique and it really makes you think about life and the choices we make. If you are debating whether to read it, just do it, you will not regret it.

Historia
Bridging women's history, the history of the South, and African-American history, this audiobook makes a bold argument about the role of white women in American slavery. Historian Stephanie E. Jones-Rogers draws on a variety of sources to show that slave-owning women were sophisticated economic actors who directly engaged in and benefited from the South's slave market.

Revisado: 03-05-25
"They Were Her Slaves" sheds light on the deep involvement of white women in the slave trade, a history that's often overlooked. What stood out most to me is how many white women from that time actively benefited from and upheld slavery, and how that mindset still echoes today. It explains why so many continue to vote against their own interests—because white supremacy still benefits them in ways they may not even acknowledge. The book makes it clear that their role wasn’t passive, but deeply embedded in maintaining the system. A powerful and eye-opening read.

Historia
Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

I never seen so much correct information used incorrectly
Revisado: 12-26-24
I approached Blackout with an open mind, genuinely hoping Candace Owens would offer a nuanced critique of the Democratic Party's relationship with Black Americans. After all, it's no secret that political loyalty can often be taken for granted, and Owens had an opportunity to shine a light on valid concerns. Instead, what I found was a tangled web of half-truths, cherry-picked data, and a relentless vendetta against liberals that blinded her from presenting a balanced argument.
Owens raises some points that are hard to dismiss—yes, the Democratic Party has historically failed Black communities in many ways. Yes, political allegiance without accountability is a problem. But instead of using these truths to build a thoughtful critique, she weaponizes them to paint Republicans as the saviors and Democrats as cartoon villains. In doing so, she glosses over the very real shortcomings of the conservative side. Historically and presently, Republicans have done little to earn the trust or loyalty of Black voters either. Both parties are flawed, and pretending otherwise is intellectually dishonest.
The most frustrating part of Blackout is Owens' tendency to oversimplify complex social issues. Systemic racism isn’t something you can hand-wave away with anecdotes about personal responsibility. It exists in policies, in institutions, and in cultural structures. While personal accountability is important, dismissing the historical and structural barriers that Black Americans face comes across as willfully ignorant.
Her reliance on out-of-context statistics and sweeping generalizations weakens her argument further. Instead of building bridges, she sets fire to them, reducing any chance of meaningful dialogue to ashes. Owens seems less interested in helping Black Americans think critically about their political affiliations and more interested in antagonizing liberals.
I’m not a liberal. I’m a Black man who understands that both parties have failed us in different ways. But if you're going to call out one side, you owe it to your readers to hold the other side equally accountable. Instead of guiding readers to empowerment, Blackout feels like a lecture drenched in bitterness and political tribalism.
There was potential for this book to be a game-changer—to challenge assumptions, encourage independence, and spark critical thought. Instead, it feels like a missed opportunity, buried under the weight of Owens' own biases. If you're looking for a genuine conversation about the political landscape and the Black community's place within it, this isn't it.

This book is great at showing the bigger picture
Revisado: 12-12-24
"Violence on the Mind" is a remarkable exploration of self-awareness, life, and the impact of violence on our thoughts and actions. This book does an incredible job of presenting the bigger picture, encouraging readers to reflect on how violence, both internal and external, shapes their perspective and interactions with the world.
What sets this book apart is its ability to weave profound insights into a narrative that is both engaging and thought-provoking. The author delivers powerful "gems" of wisdom throughout, making it a treasure trove for anyone seeking to deepen their understanding of themselves and the world around them.
The book does not shy away from tackling complex topics. It challenges readers to confront uncomfortable truths about the role of violence in society and within ourselves. Yet, it does so in a way that is not overwhelming but instead empowering, guiding readers toward greater self-awareness and personal growth.
"Violence on the Mind" is more than just a book; it is an invitation to reflect, question, and ultimately evolve. It is a must-read for anyone looking to better understand the human condition and their place within it. Highly recommended for those who appreciate deep, meaningful explorations of life's intricate dynamics.

Revisado: 12-05-24
I’ll start by saying that while this book didn’t align perfectly with my current financial goals, it’s undeniable that it’s a powerhouse of knowledge. From the very first chapter, I found myself captivated by the author’s insights. She shares practical advice and perspectives that are both enlightening and surprisingly intuitive—some of which made me wonder, “Why didn’t I think of that before?”
The author’s voice is incredibly engaging, striking the perfect balance between approachable and authoritative. Her subtle humor adds a touch of personality, making complex topics feel relatable without being overbearing or distracting.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Revisado: 12-03-24
Reading The Autobiography of Malcolm X was nothing short of a transformative experience. This book is more than just a memoir; it's an eye-opener, a wake-up call, and a profound lesson in self-discovery, resilience, and the power of transformation.
Malcolm X’s journey from a troubled youth to one of the most influential figures in American history is told with brutal honesty and sharp insight. His reflections on race, identity, and justice forced me to reevaluate how I view the world. It’s impossible to walk away from this book without a heightened awareness of systemic racism and the strength it takes to confront it.
The depth of Malcolm X's intellect and his relentless quest for truth made me question the narratives I’ve been taught and inspired me to think critically about the society I live in. His evolution—from a street hustler to a revolutionary thinker—was not only inspiring but also a testament to the power of education and self-reflection.
This book doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable truths, and that’s what makes it so impactful. It challenges readers to confront their own biases and ignorance, while also offering hope through the possibility of personal and collective transformation.
The Autobiography of Malcolm X is, without a doubt, one of the best books I’ve ever read. It changed the way I see the world and left an indelible mark on my understanding of justice and humanity. For anyone seeking a deeper perspective on race, history, and personal growth, this is an essential read.
