Historia
For maverick LAPD homicide detective Harry Bosch, the body in the drainpipe at Mulholland Dam is more than another anonymous statistic. This one is personal...because the murdered man was a fellow Vietnam "tunnel rat" who had fought side by side with him in a hellish underground war. Now Bosch is about to relive the horror of Nam. From a dangerous maze of blind alleys to a daring criminal heist beneath the city, his survival instincts will once again be tested to their limit.

Always memorable
Revisado: 04-15-25
I read the book 20 years ago, but decided to relive it as an audible. So good.
As my favorite author in the police, detective, crime genre ( I read the forward in the Kindle), it was fun and even more memorable to live it with Titus’s narration.
Enough time has passed that there were still surprises, especially the Eleanor Wish character. I was glad to revisit her.

Historia
Gabe Talmadge languished in prison for 10 years, convicted of a horrible crime. Now free, he's unable to find work in the midst of the Great Depression. In desperation, he returns home to Ransom, Idaho, hoping his uncaring father will give him food and shelter, if not love. But the prodigal isn't welcomed home. Hudson Talmadge, who virtually owns the town, despises his son as much as ever, and Gabe is as powerless as an adult as he was as a child to win his father's approval.

Uplifting but predictable
Revisado: 04-12-25
It’s a romance that reads more like a daily devotional. Very Christian and overloaded with Scripture, even King James English, which becomes a little too schmaltzy even for me, a believer.
I think the testimony would be stronger if not so preachy and churchy. But that’s just me.
It is narrated well.
If I were the editor, I’d have made it more relatable to unbelievers.

Revisado: 04-10-25
The story and characters are okay but not memorable. I enjoyed learning about North Umberland and its surroundings.
Thankfully the AI narration is acceptable—better than most. There is even some voice modulation. We’re still not up to male and female voices or accents 🤨
Entertaining enough but I’ll move on.

Great story; disappointing narration
Revisado: 04-09-25
Grant is up to her usual excellence in plot, adventure, humor and suspense. Unfortunately, she has let us down choosing AI narration instead of the wonderful performances for Books 1 and 2.
This one is frustrating from the beginning with the inability to discern Polish from polish (rather key to this story), and repeated throughout. And then there’x live and live where they go live on the internet (you can guess this flaw).
It’s really a shame because the humor is so much better with Amy.
Nite to Grant: ( Please write more Dixie Flynn stories. And, PLEASE bring Amy back. We will pay!

Historia
Wisecracking reporter Dixie Flynn thinks fast and talks even faster - it's the only way to survive the San Francisco crime beat. When she's assigned to look into the death of her former lover, artist Diego Chino, Dixie's instincts tell her there's more behind the apparent suicide than the police are letting on. Dixie's canvassing of the Bay Area art district reveals it to be a perfect picture of corruption, with a handsome art dealer and a reclusive patron in the foreground.

Revisado: 04-07-25
Why aren’t all mysteries peppered with laugh-out-loud sarcasm and edge-of-seat suspense like M.C.Grant’s irresistible storytelling?
And why are all narrators perfectly cast like Amy Rubinate, who is so Dixie it’s not even a contest to imagine anyone else even auditioning. Her other voices are well-done also.
Great escape.

Historia
Dixie Flynn's boss wants her to write a fluff story for Father's Day. Dixie doesn't do fluff. Investigating the origins of a cryptic classified ad, crime-beat journalist Dixie Flynn finds herself entering the seedy realm of a brutal Russian mobster. Before she knows it, Dixie's simple missing-father story has turned into a violent battle of wills as she tries to help a woman escape a life and death struggle with the mob. For Dixie, the pen is mightier than the sword, but it's going to take some handy work with a pistol if she wants this story to have a happy ending.

Spellbinding and funny
Revisado: 04-05-25
After slogging through so many mediocre and painfully predictable books, what a delight to find M.C. Grant, an amazing storyteller and thoroughly entertaining writer. Her sense of humor is unique and sure to make Dixie Flynn a classic—“wide-crack reporter” right up there with her male contemporaries.
But she’s not just a pretty red-head. She’s dangerous and so much fun.
Add to that a stellar narrator who IS Dixie, still mastering perfect supporting character voices, we want more.
Start with book one! Enjoy!

The spirit of the Lord spoke to Pastor Andrew Towe, revealing a prophetic glimpse of a coming outpouring: “I am uprooting religious systems and tearing down man’s ways of doing things. This new move will be marked by My glory and the flow will be pure.” In an incredible vision from God, Andrew received a prophetic announcement that there is a day fast approaching where God will move upon the Earth using everyday people that have been equipped with the Triple Threat Anointing.

Awe and exhilaration—along with heartbreak and mordant wit—abound in Lolita, which tells the story of the aging Humbert Humbert's obsession for the nymphet Dolores Haze. Lolita is also the story of a hypercivilized European colliding with the cheerful barbarism of postwar America.

Revolting
Revisado: 04-01-25
No one can fault the writing, yet the story is so hard to hear in all its disgusting reality. So many young girls and so many senseless crimes against them.
Irons delivers well the classic. It was mailed in brown paper when first published. It should have been shrouded in black. I guess making such sordid filth can bd a classic. It’s surely one we could do without.

Historia
In the grand storytelling style that is his signature, James Michener sweeps us back through time to the very beginnings of the Jewish faith, thousands of years ago. Through the predecessors of four modern men and women, we experience the entire colorful history of the Jews, including the life of the early Hebrews and their persecutions, the impact of Christianity, the Crusades, and the Spanish Inquisition, all the way to the founding of present-day Israel and the Middle East conflict.

Not his best
Revisado: 03-31-25
In general calling this a history of the Hews is quite misleading. It is a philosophical, very skewed and opinionated view of the history of a small portion of the Middle East. And, IMO a rather distorted view st that, unless you want to mostly leave the God of Israel out of their history.
What could have been a balanced history lesson, became a campaign for a peace for mankind and a very irritating microcosm of a a people.
Could our mostly listenable narrator at least learn to pronounce Judaism? It is NOT Jud-ism. Geesh. I found myself wishing the pain of listening were over but deciding after investing 30 hours, I might as well get it accomplished. I should get a medal. Disappointing to the end.
I’m saddened because Michener is a favorite author and this dud makes me wonder if I gad known more if his other historical fiction, maybe I wouldn’t have touted them do completely.
