I read the book 20 years ago, but decided to relive it as an audible. So good.

As my favorite author in the police, detective, crime genre ( I read the forward in the Kindle), it was fun and even more memorable to live it with Titus’s narration.

Enough time has passed that there were still surprises, especially the Eleanor Wish character. I was glad to revisit her.

It’s a romance that reads more like a daily devotional. Very Christian and overloaded with Scripture, even King James English, which becomes a little too schmaltzy even for me, a believer.

I think the testimony would be stronger if not so preachy and churchy. But that’s just me.

It is narrated well.

If I were the editor, I’d have made it more relatable to unbelievers.

The story and characters are okay but not memorable. I enjoyed learning about North Umberland and its surroundings.

Thankfully the AI narration is acceptable—better than most. There is even some voice modulation. We’re still not up to male and female voices or accents 🤨

Entertaining enough but I’ll move on.

Grant is up to her usual excellence in plot, adventure, humor and suspense. Unfortunately, she has let us down choosing AI narration instead of the wonderful performances for Books 1 and 2.

This one is frustrating from the beginning with the inability to discern Polish from polish (rather key to this story), and repeated throughout. And then there’x live and live where they go live on the internet (you can guess this flaw).

It’s really a shame because the humor is so much better with Amy.

Nite to Grant: ( Please write more Dixie Flynn stories. And, PLEASE bring Amy back. We will pay!

Why aren’t all mysteries peppered with laugh-out-loud sarcasm and edge-of-seat suspense like M.C.Grant’s irresistible storytelling?

And why are all narrators perfectly cast like Amy Rubinate, who is so Dixie it’s not even a contest to imagine anyone else even auditioning. Her other voices are well-done also.

Great escape.

After slogging through so many mediocre and painfully predictable books, what a delight to find M.C. Grant, an amazing storyteller and thoroughly entertaining writer. Her sense of humor is unique and sure to make Dixie Flynn a classic—“wide-crack reporter” right up there with her male contemporaries.

But she’s not just a pretty red-head. She’s dangerous and so much fun.

Add to that a stellar narrator who IS Dixie, still mastering perfect supporting character voices, we want more.

Start with book one! Enjoy!

This could be a devotional catalyst. It’s challenging, Scriptural and anointed. Thanks for these truths.

It could be a yearly listen.

This seems more a YA category than Grisham’s usual adult legal thrillers, but it is still well-written, entertaining and well-narrated.

No one can fault the writing, yet the story is so hard to hear in all its disgusting reality. So many young girls and so many senseless crimes against them.

Irons delivers well the classic. It was mailed in brown paper when first published. It should have been shrouded in black. I guess making such sordid filth can bd a classic. It’s surely one we could do without.

In general calling this a history of the Hews is quite misleading. It is a philosophical, very skewed and opinionated view of the history of a small portion of the Middle East. And, IMO a rather distorted view st that, unless you want to mostly leave the God of Israel out of their history.

What could have been a balanced history lesson, became a campaign for a peace for mankind and a very irritating microcosm of a a people.

Could our mostly listenable narrator at least learn to pronounce Judaism? It is NOT Jud-ism. Geesh. I found myself wishing the pain of listening were over but deciding after investing 30 hours, I might as well get it accomplished. I should get a medal. Disappointing to the end.

I’m saddened because Michener is a favorite author and this dud makes me wonder if I gad known more if his other historical fiction, maybe I wouldn’t have touted them do completely.
