Historia
Christmas was just another cold day to survive—until he gave me a reason to hope… and a reason to fear losing it all. After her father’s banking scandal forces Nora to flee Boston, she journeys west to Kansas, seeking a fresh start as a mail-order bride. Arriving at Lawrence Ahearn's ranch just before a blizzard hits, she finds herself facing a different kind of challenge: mending the broken heart of a grieving widower and his two young children who haven't celebrated Christmas in two years. The story jumped around. I had a hard time following the introduction of the characters. This had the makings of a pretty good novel if it had been developed more fully.

The virtual voice was cringe worthy.
Revisado: 09-02-24
The story was good. It was well written and the characters were believable. Would recommend if not for virtual voice.

Historia
Angelina Hunter was seriously minded, and it was a good thing. Her father’s ranch needed a woman who could endure the strenuous work of ranch life. Since her mother’s death, Angelina had been that woman. She had no time for frivolity; no time for a less severe side of life. Not when there was so much to be done—hired hands to feed, a widower father to care for and an often ridiculously lighted-hearted younger sister to worry about. No. Angelina Hunter had no time for the things most young women her age enjoyed. And yet, Angelina had not always been so hardened. There had been a time ...

Great story!
Revisado: 11-25-23
I really liked the story and the style. The virtual voice, however, drove me crazy. Mispronunciations and no feelings or emphasis at certain points in the dialogue distracted me greatly. I would have given 5 stars, were it not for the virtual voice.

Historia
Margaret "Peggy" Thomas and her husband, James, lead a simple and peaceful life; she tends to the farm while he works as sheriff in the nearby town of Bleak Knob. Their evenings are spent doing the thing they love most - being together. One afternoon, after picking up fabric at the general store, Margaret watches helplessly as James is gunned down on the sidewalk in front of her. Days of mourning turn into weeks and then years, filled with little more than grief and alcohol.

Too grisly for me
Revisado: 12-03-21
Loved the reader, Carol Monda. Excellent job. The story was good but had I known there would be so many grisly details I never would have stayed this book. I kept listening because I had to find out what happened to Margaret Thomas.

When Nolan Sackett met Penelope Hume in a cantina at Borregos Plaza, the girl immediately captured his attention. That she was heir to a lost cache of gold didn’t make her any less desirable. Their all-consuming sense of entitlement recklessly drives them to ambush and murder.
