Historia
Jeremiah Trent works as a Seattle homicide detective. When he’s contacted by a friend from his childhood, he packs his bags and heads to a mansion in remote Colorado. As he arrives at the best-selling author’s home, Jerry can’t shake the feeling it was a mistake visiting the people from his past. The mystery deepens when Jay offers them a chance to read his newest manuscript, one chapter at a time. He finds the story is their own from 25 years ago, only with different character names and a changed setting. Then a body is discovered by the local police.

Great read!

This book was very well written. The characters were believable, and it was easy to care what happened around and to them. I highly recommend this book.

Lots of teen drama and angst
Revisado: 01-29-24
This story isn't bad, but there is way too much teenage drama, even though the characters are supposed to be adults. If you enjoy that, you would probably enjoy this book too.

Historia
Meanwhile, Gillan McArdle’s academic career is ending because of one stupid lapse of judgement. Offered a short-term contract, he lands on the Hebridean island of Harris to investigate obscure animal bones. Quickly dismissing the unicorn skull as a thinly disguised fake, he can’t deny there’s something unusual about these bones. Baited by rumors of a majestic tusked horse roaming the uplands, Gill begins to suspect someone is manipulating him. As he gradually unravels the mystery of the skull, he grasps a disturbing conclusion: If this creature does exist, the evidence suggests it’s a killer.

This is awful!!
Revisado: 01-10-24
After reading the publisher's blurb, I thought this was going to be a fantastical paleontology story. First mistake the author makes is to call it "archeology", which is NOT the study of bones, it's the study of people and civilizations. Paleontology is the study of bones and fossils, and this author proves by Chapter 5 that he has no clue about that field of study. None of the supposed scientists behave as they should, or as if they have a clue as to what they are doing. The author doesn't even reference the correct data bases. If the author had asked a real paleontologist to take him on a dig, he might have gotten an idea of what goes into finding fossils and what happens after one is found.
The story would be interesting if the errors weren't so distracting. I honestly don't see how an editor at a publishing house let this get past them and out the door. This is not " science fiction" it's just a poor story in need of a massive rewrite.

My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me. So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

Too long
Revisado: 01-06-24
This book started out well, but bogged down badly in the middle. The author seemed to lose the rhythm of the story and to get bored with it. At the end the whole thing just sort of petered out. Stick with the first book; it was good. Skip this one.

Historia
Viv's career with the notorious mercenary company Rackam's Ravens isn't going as planned. Wounded during the hunt for a powerful necromancer, she's packed off against her will to recuperate in the sleepy beach town of Murk—so far from the action that she worries she'll never be able to return to it. What's a thwarted soldier of fortune to do? Spending her hours at a beleaguered bookshop in the company of its foul-mouthed proprietor is the last thing Viv would have predicted, but it may be both exactly what she needs and the seed of changes she couldn't possibly imagine.

Almost as good as the first one.
Revisado: 12-17-23
This was another excellent read, but would have been better as the first book of the series because it goes into much more depth about the main character, and how she got to where the first book started. The epilog ties the two books together, which helped a lot.
I really like this author's style, and hope he is working on book three of the series.

Historia
Worn out after decades of packing steel and raising hell, Viv, the orc barbarian, cashes out of the warrior’s life with one final score. A forgotten legend, a fabled artifact, and an unreasonable amount of hope lead her to the streets of Thune, where she plans to open the first coffee shop the city has ever seen. However, her dreams of a fresh start filling mugs instead of swinging swords are hardly a sure bet. Old frenemies and Thune’s shady underbelly may just upset her plans. To finally build something that will last, Viv will need some new partners, and a different kind of resolve.

Not as good as the previous books in this series
Revisado: 03-27-23
Up until this book, I really enjoyed the October Day series. With this book, however, the author seems to be struggling to find a decent story. The twists and turns weren't as well thought out, and are somewhat contrived. I was planning to finish the whole series, now however, I think it might be time to move on to something different.

When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he’s hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate - he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in 19th-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say “Boo.”
