Historia
When Kit's fiancée orders a DIY seance kit online, he's not sure whether to be relieved or horrified. On the one hand, Faith's nightly rituals seem to provide peace during the most upsetting time of her life, following the sudden and violent deaths of her parents. But on the other hand… Kit begins experiencing increasingly frightening phenomena. Bodiless footsteps stalk him in the halls. A sinister phantom watches him sleep from the foot of the bed.

Stephen King? Is that you?
Revisado: 03-16-25
This was SO good! As others have said, the male narrator was just okay, but the story itself? Wow. It was engrossing, and the creep factor was akin to that of a King novel. Very unexpected climax. Just sooo good!!

I figured it out about halfway through. And then I figured it out again. And again. And again. I thought I had it figured out until the very last sentence! Engrossing story, well performed.

Evil spirits? Shadow figures? Ghosts? The Devil? These things could not possibly exist in the physical world. In a rational thinking mind (one fully grounded in logic and common sense) there is no room for such unconventional philosophy. That’s how it had always been for the Chief of Police in Cumberland Springs, Pennsylvania, Glen Crawford. His life was simple. Nothing paranormal or supernatural has ever happened to him or his sleepy little town for that matter. That is, until the night an emaciated body is discovered inside of a backyard garden shed, just outside of town. The assumption...

Please give me a human!
Revisado: 12-08-24
The story itself was interesting. I am a huge fan of this genre, and while
not scary, it was a good story. That said, it felt a little more religious than I expected at places; I half expected Jesus to make an appearance at the end. Now for the narrator. OMG. I need a human who knows how to pronounce “stared” (it’s not “starred,” Mr. AI), and who doesn’t say “ah, ah, ah”—the chastisement—as though he were in ecstasy. And who knows not to mention the decimal point in a gun type (a “point 38”). Would have been MUCH better with an actual human.

Surviving a violent car crash seems like a miracle for Jack’s family, but Jack knows there’s nothing divine about it.

You expect death in a book like this, but damn! It is the definition of “dark and twisty,” and I was not expecting the ending. Very good! Narrator mispronounced some things that threw me off, but overall amazing!

Narrator perfect for character
Revisado: 07-29-24
The good father was quite irritating in his…everything. He reminded me more of a Puritan minister written by Hawthorne than an apparently Catholic priest in the 1940s, and his abject refusal to see the truth was frustrating. The narrator was perfect
for the role, although I’m not sure if I’d want to listen to him in any other capacity. The story was interesting. It wasn’t what I would consider her best, but it had her trademark twists. Good listen overall.

Historia
Crowford, a sleepy coastal town in the south of England, might seem like an oasis of calm and tranquility. Beneath the surface, however, dark secrets are waiting to claim fresh victims, and ghostly figures plot revenge. Having finally decided to leave the hustle of London, Daisy and Richard Johnson buy two houses on Nelson Street, a picturesque street in the center of Crowford. One house is perfect and ready to move into, while the other is a fire-ravaged wreck that needs a lot of work.

I have never finished a book and immediately turned around and listened to it again, but that’s what I did here. I thought I knew what was happening, but I was so very wrong. Awesome story, although the narrator sounded like she was reading it for the first time. Still, if you like mysteries AND ghost stories with a twist, this is it!!

WHERE ARE WE?!
Revisado: 05-02-24
British narrator with British terminology (torch, cinema, biscuits), but it’s set in GEORGIA?! As in the state in the US? And they hang out in the summertime outdoors to enjoy the beautiful weather? The story would have been really good, but I kept getting pulled out of the narrative because southerners eat cookies; biscuits go with gravy or jam. I’m not sure why she didn’t just set it in England! It would have been 5/5 stars.

Lies. Deceit. Betrayal. These are the weapons of the damned. For paranormal investigator Ford Atticus Ford, and his partner, Mike Long, the stakes have never been higher as they ready themselves for a supernatural war with the most powerful demonic entity they have ever encountered. This isn't just about ghosts and things that go bump in the night. This is abject fear. This is the ultimate horror. It's good versus supreme evil in a winner-take-all fight for redemption, the soul of little Chelsea Hopper, and possibly even the future of humanity itself....

Satisfying conclusion
Revisado: 04-30-24
Although the premise of Booger-face’s true identity was a bit far-fetched, this brought the trilogy to a satisfying conclusion. Ford’s character is more than a little over the top, and I wonder if he has ADHD based on his stream-of-consciousness birdwalks, but otherwise, I enjoyed the book and the series.

Thesaurus, anyone?
Revisado: 04-04-24
I have never heard of someone “shiver” so many times in one sitting, nor realized how many different curtains can “flutter” or how much electricity can “crackle” between two people. That said, I’m vested in the story, even though there were many times I wished I could just shake Becca! Surely no one second-guesses themselves as much as she does. She is frustrating, but the narrator does well with the material she has to work with.

Historia
It’s Halloween night, 1984, in Coventry, Massachusetts, and two families are unraveling. Up and down the street, horrifying secrets are being revealed, and all the while, mixed in with the trick-or-treaters of all ages, four children who do not belong are walking door to door, merging with the kids of Parmenter Road. Children in vintage costumes with faded, eerie makeup. They seem terrified, and beg the neighborhood kids to hide them away, to keep them safe from The Cunning Man.
