It starts out slowly, but...
Revisado: 03-21-25
Esther Wane is a good narrator, but I am NOT impressed with Dan Calley. He makes every sentence sound like it's almost a question, with very little inflection in the middle.
The story itself is an interesting one, and it (so far) has none of the irritating overdescribed sex scenes. THANK YOU FOR THAT!!!!!!

Amazing Series!
Revisado: 02-23-25
First, the narrator is AMAZING!!!!!! He is able to give a different voice to every character and keep that voice the same from book to book. Second, the series has tons of action and never has long, boring descriptions of the landscape. Despite that, the descriptions that are there are so excellently done that you can see it in your mind's eye.
I am SO grateful for a book/series that has NO "romantic" descriptions - especially the ones that give you too much information! Thank you for that! (When I want TMI descriptions, I will look for them in a different type of story/book.)
The characters (including the dragons) are very realistic with their fears, regrets, joys, errors, and triumphs. Just like us in the "real world," they are relatable and you feel for them as if they were your friend, too.
It's hard to find a book/series of this caliber, and I am grateful that I found it. I can hardly wait for the next book to come out!

Historia
God is change. That is the central truth of the Earthseed movement, whose unlikely prophet is 18-year-old Lauren Olamina. The young woman's diary entries tell the story of her life amid a violent 21st-century hell of walled neighborhoods and drug-crazed pyromaniacs - and reveal her evolving Earthseed philosophy. Against a backdrop of horror emerges a message of hope: if we are willing to embrace divine change, we will survive to fulfill our destiny among the stars.

Fascinating concept!
Revisado: 01-28-25
This book reminds me a little bit of Sheri S Tepper's book, "The Gate to Women's Country." There is a lot of "what if" to this story because of where our country seems to be headed right now. I hope we don't get to this point, but...

Historia
In the beginning, there was darkness. Before he met Callie, before he became the Bargainer, there was Desmond Flynn, the bastard son of a scribe. A boy born to a weak mother, cursed with little magic, and destined to marry a slave. But fate had something else in mind. From the barren caves of Arestys to the palace of Somnia to the streets of earth, this is how Desmond Flynn, a fairy who began with nothing, became the Emperor of Evening Stars.

Too much sex scene descriptions. I prefer to have my imagination fill in the gaps, rather than having everything explicitly described.

"Virtual Voice" should NOT be used for reading books!
Revisado: 11-09-24
There is no vocal change to indicate who is speaking, and sometimes the voice pauses in strange places. I DEFINITELY prefer a real human being to read the book.

AI should not be used to read a book...
Revisado: 10-31-24
The inflection (or lack of...) the "narrator" left me wondering if I can keep listening! Also, this series must have been sent to publishing without a proofreader. A real human being is best for reading books, and proofreaders are essential! The storyline, however, is a good one and deserves to be read by someone who can differentiate the characters.

AI should NOT take the place of humans when reading a story.
Revisado: 10-24-24
The AI doesn't have the ability to differentiate between characters, and the inflections are either not there or not correct. This makes it hard to get through the book! It's difficult to understand the complexities of the story when characters and inflections are wrong.

AI is NOT a good storyteller!
Revisado: 10-21-24
The storyline is good, but I prefer an actual human being as the reader. With the AI, the correct inflections are nonexistent and you can't tell which character is speaking without clarification. The only reason I am continuing with this book is because of the story.

Historia
The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, and the children of two Hematoi-pure-bloods-have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals-well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: Become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway.

Narrators voice is irritating
Revisado: 07-19-24
The storyline is pretty good, although a bit juvenile. That's ok, because I'm reading this for fun. The narrator's voice, however, grates on the nerves like fingernails being slowly dragged across a chalkboard. If you can get past that, it's a pretty good story. I like the fact that the MC is not a whiner even though she's 17 years old. I will be listening to the next book.
